To leave my lovely DH after this?

I have just been in the kitchen and could smell burning from the toaster. I asked DH and he said it was the SCONE HE WAS TOASTING!!??
Nobody toasts a scone do they? To be fair he’s from forrin but he’s been here long enough to know better.
It is a leaving offence or does he just need some baked good re-education?

No toasting here but I would pop one in the microwave for a few seconds if there not the freshest! Yum, need a scone and a cuppa now!

Seeingadistance · 02/08/2020 16:23

Mmmmmm.....

toasted scone ....

with butter and raspberry jam....

Anniegetyourgun · 02/08/2020 16:24

OK, if it's stale you've got a point, but never in the toaster, for sound practical reasons. It's just the wrong consistency. Bits drop off and before you know it you've got an Incident on your hands.

Toasted muffins, now (English variety, not bald cupcakes obviously), it would be a crime NOT to toast those.

isabellerossignol · 02/08/2020 16:24

I would toast one if it had gone a bit stale. I'm very precious about scones though and few of them meet the standards of what I expect from a scone, so I tend not to buy them at all...

cinders222 · 02/08/2020 16:24

I love a toasted scone and butter. Husband is not a toaster and he eats his with butter and jam.

Seeingadistance · 02/08/2020 16:24

If he sees this thread, he might leave you, OP!

And he would be entirely right to do so.

Hoppinggreen · 02/08/2020 16:25

My horror might be partly down to the fact that a sultana has dropped out and was burning to be fair to him

@Hoppinggreen

Really? It’s me then? I’m shook
It's not you.

It's wrong. Just wrong

SmileEachDay · 02/08/2020 16:27

It's not you

Agree.

Disfordarkchocolate · 02/08/2020 16:28

I once went to a cafe where they toasted my scone when I said yes to having it warm. I have never been back.

Scones need to be eaten warm from the oven.

SnackSizeRaisin · 02/08/2020 16:28

Depends on the pronunciation of scone

PrayingandHoping · 02/08/2020 16:29

You're totally sane OP.

You don't toast a sweet scone 🤯

KittyHawke80 · 02/08/2020 16:31

It's not the least bit 'disgusting'. How can it be? It's a bread product! Cheese scones cut in half and toasted were the most popular thing at a tearoom I worked in a while ago. I'd be less inclined with a sweet scone, but that's me.

Hoppinggreen · 02/08/2020 16:31

snacksize I think we had better sort out this toasting business before we move onto that

LightDrizzle · 02/08/2020 16:32

It’s madness. First Coronavirus and now this.
It’s crumbly damn it, he knows NOTHING.

Oysterbabe · 02/08/2020 16:33

I do this. I don't burn them though.

IntermittentParps · 02/08/2020 16:33

The fuck??????
I wouldn't leave him but I might stage a gentle intervention.

it's scone like gone, that's the end of it

Durgasarrow · 02/08/2020 16:33

As I am American, I must defer to y'alls judgment.

Purplewithred · 02/08/2020 16:34

OP I am with you, horrified. I think I nearly snapped my pearls.

Obviously scones should be slightly warm, but warm from the oven not from the toaster. And soft on the cut sides, not crispy.

Off to lie down with a cream tea with jam on top

Branleuse · 02/08/2020 16:35

hmm. If it was a fresh scone then thats madness and unecessary to toast it, but im wondering if it was past its best and then toasting might freshen it up, like bread.

I mean, ive still never heard of it, and id say its definitely a red flag, but as you say hes a forriner, and therefore maybe cut him some slack.

madcow88 · 02/08/2020 16:35

What does forrin mean?

LightDrizzle · 02/08/2020 16:36

FACT! Every time you toast a scone; a WI member DIES!

MrsGrindah · 02/08/2020 16:37

OK I’m going to come straight out with it. I eat scones dry and I don’t even cut them in half. Just eat them like a biscuit.

I love it and you won’t change me.

VaggieMight · 02/08/2020 16:39

Toasted fruit scones with butter are delicious.

IntermittentParps · 02/08/2020 16:39

Purplewithred, you are wrong and it is jam FIRST, OBVIOUSLY.
