To leave my lovely DH after this?

I have just been in the kitchen and could smell burning from the toaster. I asked DH and he said it was the SCONE HE WAS TOASTING!!??
Nobody toasts a scone do they? To be fair he’s from forrin but he’s been here long enough to know better.
It is a leaving offence or does he just need some baked good re-education?

I toast them to beat them up. Cold scones are shit in comparison

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 02/08/2020 17:16

Heat, not beat 😂

nocoolnamesleft · 02/08/2020 17:16

Oh dear. LTB. Then we can get onto something more contentious. Like whether the cream or the jam goes on first...

streamlinedcaverns · 02/08/2020 17:17

Really? A cream tea type scone? I've never tried it but I think I will now, it sounds like it might be lovely.

When he's toasted it does he put the jam or cream on first?

Aragog · 02/08/2020 17:17

I have never ever known a scone to be toasted!
Warmed in the oven yes, but toasted - never!

NurseButtercup · 02/08/2020 17:19

Toasted scones you say...errr yes..you MUST MUST try it with a cup of hot sweet tea, before you put out a request for a shit hot lawyer ;-)

FlorenceFlounce · 02/08/2020 17:21

Can’t believe that this is causing such a furore! I’m amazed that not everyone does it and even more amazed that people find the concept offensive Hmm

I’m a Manc and my absolute preferred way to eat a scone is cut in half (got to saw it carefully with a bread knife to avoid crumblage) and toasted in the toaster. Slap a bit of butter on each side and eat while hot. 💗

If you don’t have easy access to real scones it is also an essential method for making shop bought ones quite nice 👍

Yarboosucks · 02/08/2020 17:22

I had some scones that were a little stale / dry, so I toasted one. Bloody delicious! I now prefer toasted scones. Cheese scones are the best, but then a slightly caramelised fruity scone is heaven.

NurseButtercup · 02/08/2020 17:22

Oh and it's real salted butter, let it melt into the scone, no cream, then apply jam.

No need to thank me, it is my civic duty to share these details.

Salted butter? No cream?

Off to the Tower with you!

TawnyPippit · 02/08/2020 17:24

I think you need to tell him this was in fact one of the practical elements of the British citizenship test and he has just FAILED.

WhereYouLeftIt · 02/08/2020 17:24

I have never toasted a scone. The thought had never crossed my mind.

But now that the thought HAS crossed my mind - I like the sound of it.

Emotionalfuckwit · 02/08/2020 17:25

@LightDrizzle 😂😂😂😂😂

Hoppinggreen · 02/08/2020 17:27

I can see started this thread was a huge mistake. I have not only found out that this type of thing is completely normal but I have actually encouraged others to try it
I’m sorry

Oh good Lord - what am I reading? Toasting? Under the grill? In the microwave?

My DH is also from Forrin and I would be considering packing bags in your shoes OP. Having said that, my DH is from a Mediterranean country and is overly fond of a squeeze of Lemon Juice - as in 'Sunday Roast? Pass me a Lemon', so I have become slightly desensitised to food atrocities.

I think I'm with @SnackSizeRaisin. Pronunciation might have to be the deciding factor. Did he call it a SCON or a SCONE?

Dominicgoings · 02/08/2020 17:29

Butter on BOTH sides?

‘Faints’

MrsGrindah · 02/08/2020 17:29

OP ..you are single handedly destroying the nation’s attempts to lose the lockdown stone...

Do you like a slab of cheddar in hot cross buns too? My dh is from your neck of the woods and he introduced me to said delight.
Hoppinggreen · 02/08/2020 17:32

When I first went to his family for Sunday lunch they served a (delicious) full Sunday roast, with rice.
I should have realised then and dumped him before it got too serious

I took that to mean both halves, not the top and bottom of each half.

I bloody well hope so anyway.

Waveysnail · 02/08/2020 17:35

Oh god they warm scones in NI it turns me. Scones should not be warm unless they are fresh or they go like dough (boke)

notapizzaeater · 02/08/2020 17:35

I need to get some scones now to try this

streamlinedcaverns · 02/08/2020 17:35

Scone. It's compulsory to call it a scone.

FruitLikeAPeach · 02/08/2020 17:35

I am literally shaking and sobbing at the thought of a toasted scone right now.

YANBU!

A roast? With rice? LTB!
