Was it unusual to have made pasta in the microwave?

I'm in my second trimester of pregnancy so of course i'm getting cravings by now. One of my strongest cravings is cheesy pasta Blush
Of course I know that that's not unusual at all and today I was bloody hungry. I read that pasta could be made in the microwave so I just quickly filled a bowl up with water and salt and made it in about two minutes.
The pasta was perfectly done in my eyes and I sprinkled on some cheese with pepper and it was an enjoyable meal.
But now my Dh thinks it's disgusting!! It wasn't like I was making a lot so a microwave was reasonable. Just a little bowl of some cheesy pasta isn't disgusting surely?? Angry
AIBU to think he's being a silly bastard for thinking it's weird to use a microwave?? Hmm

Never heard of pasta being made in the microwave!

Changinmyname · 02/08/2020 14:27

I just wanted to quickly get some pasta as I felt starving!!! It was too much to get a pan, heat up stove, clean up pan etc. Hmm

From what I know it isn't unusual at all and it tasted the same as boiled pasta.

I've just googled it and apparently it takes longer?
I boil the kettle first, stick it in a pan, turn on the heat and set a timer for 12 minutes.

pinkbalconyrailing · 02/08/2020 14:29

it doesn't get the right consistency cooked in the microwave imo

but: you liked it and it hit that spot, so yanbu at all.

Changinmyname · 02/08/2020 14:29

It only took about two to three minutes. I just stirred it every now and again and it turned out just fine Confused

I didn't know you could make pasta in a microwave

AppleKatie · 02/08/2020 14:29

I didn’t know you could do that- which on the face of it sounds silly because I’m quite happy to boil vegetables/potatoes etc in the microwave.

So I’d say if it worked then brilliant!

Wfhwith3yearold · 02/08/2020 14:30

If it's the red boxes of cheesy pasta the yanbu..I loved the stuff during 1st and 2ns trimester.

Anyone of Italian origin will obviously have a conniption, but if it works for you 🤷‍♀️

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 02/08/2020 14:30

Once tried to do rice in microwave, won't be doing it again!

Changinmyname · 02/08/2020 14:31

It was just macaroni/small elbow shaped pasta. It didn't take long at all and was fine.

Nah my microwave has a button called pasta, I use it when cooking rice Smile.

GrumpyHoonMain · 02/08/2020 14:33

There’s no way that pasta would have been cooked in 3 minutes. You need to add 3 minutes to the time on the box.

Fldn33r · 02/08/2020 14:34

Never knew you could do that!
Mind, I was raised to cook bacon in the microwave, never shown any other way. My Greek DP nearly had a fit when he heard about that Grin

RedCatBlueCat · 02/08/2020 14:35

I'm astounded it cooked so quickly, but cooking pasta is just getting water into it. I'm not sure that microwave or hob makes a massive difference.

OldSpeclkledHen · 02/08/2020 14:36

I've cooked pasta loads in the microwave (like you when I couldn't be arsed) I've survived... so far

I'm half Italian, and it is absolutely blasphemous 😊 But hey you do you, if you like it fab just don't mention it the next time you're at an Italian restaurant 😉
AdaColeman · 02/08/2020 14:42

Another easy way with small pasta is to leave it standing with boiling water in a thermos flask. Handy if you are doing several other items or are short of stove top space.

MrsGrindah · 02/08/2020 14:48

Italian roots here too...OP I’d be very careful answering your door late at might now if I were you!Grin

Night

Changinmyname · 02/08/2020 14:49

The pasta. Surely it doesn't look too bad? Grin

It seems odd to me, but then I don't own a microwave!

Sorberret · 02/08/2020 14:51

Never heard of cooking pasta in the microwave! Might give it a go and see how it turns out!

pigsDOfly · 02/08/2020 14:52

Somehow I imagine it's going to be soggy.

I think a lot of people over cook pasta.
