Was it unusual to have made pasta in the microwave?

I'm in my second trimester of pregnancy so of course i'm getting cravings by now. One of my strongest cravings is cheesy pasta Blush
Of course I know that that's not unusual at all and today I was bloody hungry. I read that pasta could be made in the microwave so I just quickly filled a bowl up with water and salt and made it in about two minutes.
The pasta was perfectly done in my eyes and I sprinkled on some cheese with pepper and it was an enjoyable meal.
But now my Dh thinks it's disgusting!! It wasn't like I was making a lot so a microwave was reasonable. Just a little bowl of some cheesy pasta isn't disgusting surely?? Angry
AIBU to think he's being a silly bastard for thinking it's weird to use a microwave?? Hmm

That pasta looks very dry, did you not drizzle a bit of oil on it? I’d never cook pasta in a microwave, surely a pan of hot water is not a lot of effort?

MrsGrindah · 02/08/2020 14:53

Story but that looks dreadful!

MrsGrindah · 02/08/2020 14:54

Sorry ..FFs what’s wrong with me today?!

Changinmyname · 02/08/2020 14:55

It wasn't dry at all! Shock

I have to admit it doesn't look at all appetising!

The pasta looks a bit grey, though that could just be the camera. But if you enjoyed it, what does it matter?

ZeroFuchsGiven · 02/08/2020 14:57

That is the least cheesy pasta Ive ever seen!

BlueSwathesChoose · 02/08/2020 14:58

You need to use one of those dehydrated packet pastas that sauce up.

these are amazing. Sometimes i use them as the starch on the side of grilled steak.

elephantfeels · 02/08/2020 14:58

That doesn't look great OP I'd be a bit horrified at seeing that too!

Floralnomad · 02/08/2020 14:59

I’ve done gf pasta in the microwave lots of times but if you put it in with cold water it takes at least 10-12 minutes , so it doesn’t actually save any time it’s just less mess / pots . It tastes ok though .

tbh even those I cook on the hob.

I've cooked pasta in the microwave before, when DD was a baby in a sling and it seemed safer than the stove. But it always took longer than stovetop pasta, by a good 3 or 4 mins. How al dente do you like it?!

Changinmyname · 02/08/2020 15:01

It was delicious Sad

I tend to cook them on the hob also, tbh. But they can be done in the microwave. I recommend using about double the milk it says on the pack and a big blob of butter.

Then eating ti all yourself when no-one is looking. Blush

DivGirl · 02/08/2020 15:04

Yes, but was it crunchy?
Changinmyname · 02/08/2020 15:04

It wasn't crunchy at all. It was lovely and soft, not at all over/undercooked.

It looks extremely unappetising 😐

Newdaynewname1 · 02/08/2020 15:06

We always make pasta in the microwave. Doesn’t work for filled or artisan pasts, but for basic Fusilli - fine.

elephantfeels · 02/08/2020 15:07

I honestly dont understand how you cooked pasta for 2 mins in the microwave without it being crunchy! Was it part cooked/a quick cook one?

Changinmyname · 02/08/2020 15:07

What looks so unappetizing about it? It's not as if I was serving it to DH too. It was just something to satisfy cravings Confused

StillCoughingandLaughing · 02/08/2020 15:07

Of course I know that that's not unusual at all

Then why ask? I can’t say I know of anyone who does it, but if it worked for you and you were happy with your meal, you don’t need your husband’s approval.

Changinmyname · 02/08/2020 15:08

I cooked it for about 30 seconds 5 times as i stirred and then left it for about two minutes.

What? If you wouldn't serve it to anyone else you know exactly how crap it looks.

BlueSwathesChoose · 02/08/2020 15:11

Oh FFS. Now i am going to have to experiment

[stomps off]

i had things to do today also.

Grin

I bloody hate waiting for pasta to cook. If the microwave works then it might change my life

GabsAlot · 02/08/2020 15:11

how long do u do it for and how much water op

i do those pastansauce things in the micro i guess its similar

lazylinguist · 02/08/2020 15:12

I've nothing against the idea of cooking pasta in a microwave if it works (never tried it). But that looks unappetizing to me because it just looks like plain pasta with lumps of cheese floating around in it! When you said cheesy pasta, I was imagining pasta in a cheesy sauce.
