Was it unusual to have made pasta in the microwave?

I'm in my second trimester of pregnancy so of course i'm getting cravings by now. One of my strongest cravings is cheesy pasta Blush
Of course I know that that's not unusual at all and today I was bloody hungry. I read that pasta could be made in the microwave so I just quickly filled a bowl up with water and salt and made it in about two minutes.
The pasta was perfectly done in my eyes and I sprinkled on some cheese with pepper and it was an enjoyable meal.
But now my Dh thinks it's disgusting!! It wasn't like I was making a lot so a microwave was reasonable. Just a little bowl of some cheesy pasta isn't disgusting surely?? Angry
AIBU to think he's being a silly bastard for thinking it's weird to use a microwave?? Hmm

Absolutely nothing wrong with the cooking method, your DH is being weird. And as you say, you weren’t serving it up to him.

Have to say, I was expecting there to be more cheese. You say ‘cheesey pasta’, I would imagine it to be absolutely dripping with melted cheese. Not a few crumbs of feta or whatever it is you’ve put on there.

Having said that, you’re the one eating it. I’m not sure why you’re getting such a bashing!

ShinyMe · 02/08/2020 15:13

Pasta in the microwave is fine, but pasta with no sauce? What kind of monster are you??

DivGirl · 02/08/2020 15:13

@BlueSwathesChoose

Oh FFS. Now i am going to have to experiment

[stomps off]

i had things to do today also.

Grin

I bloody hate waiting for pasta to cook. If the microwave works then it might change my life

I wouldn't bother. It usually takes longer than on the hob. Not sure how the OP managed to get it cooked in 2 minutes.
conduitoffortune · 02/08/2020 15:13

Well, you're the one eating it so more speed to you but it looks minging

vanillandhoney · 02/08/2020 15:14

What looks so unappetizing about it?

Honestly? It looks bland, dry and very flavourless. But why does it matter what other people think? You liked it, so isn't that what matters?

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 02/08/2020 15:14

Glad you enjoyed it, OP. Nothing wrong with taking a shortcut when you’re tired and hungry.

diddl · 02/08/2020 15:14

I thought that you said cheesy pasta, Op?Grin

What does your husband think it disgusting about it?

That it was microwaved, that there's very little cheese?

Why does he care if he wasn't eating it?

Changinmyname · 02/08/2020 15:14

Pasta in a bowl with water and some salt just an inch or two above the pasta.
I put it in the microwave for about thirty seconds and stirred it and then did it again a few times. Then I left for two minutes. It turned out fine Confused

It's Pasta ffs, it looks like pasta. No need to say it doesn't look good. It's a quick meal not a showcase Grin.

Changinmyname · 02/08/2020 15:15

I mixed some more cheese in underneath and the cheese was strong to begin with. It had herbs in too.

One of my fave pastas is cooked with olive oil, garlic and chilli flakes.

[you know... if this thread turns into a general musing about pasta]

MarinaMarinara · 02/08/2020 15:16

I think that is pretty unusual tbh OP! It genuinely would never occur to me to microwave it - I’d be worried it would be all starchy sat in the cooking water like that if you see what I mean. It doesn’t look appetising because it is a funny grey-ish colour (at least in the photo - appreciate that may be the lighting/phone camera) and it also kind of looks like it needs a sauce. I think I was expecting gooey cheese (like melted grated cheddar, or chunks of mozzarella or something) whereas yours looks like maybe feta?

Honestly though what I think is totally unimportant here - you’re not hurting anyone and if it made you happy that’s lovely!

Wallywobbles · 02/08/2020 15:19

Maybe keep it ready to go in the fridge with this recipe.

IncrediblySadToo · 02/08/2020 15:19

You cooked it
You ate it
You enjoyed it

That's all that counts!

But you're getting stroppy with people giving their opinion when you asked for it. That is U.

Your DH isn't being a silly bastard for thinking it's unusual. I'm 51 & I've never known anyone to make pasta in the microwave & it doesn't sound or look appealing.

But 🤷🏻‍♀️I'm not eating it, you are

SurferRona · 02/08/2020 15:20

Been hob-less during a kitchen refurb so I used a wide mouth vacuum flask, pre warmed, dry pasta added, boiling water to cover and leave for 5 mins with occasional shake. Works ok!

3hoursofPeppa · 02/08/2020 15:24

I would never heat anything water-based in the microwave! It seems absolutely minging to me. I would never boil veg or anything like that... I would heat milk, popcorn or a ready meal/leftovers in the microwave but nothing else.

Sometimes DH reheats a cold cup of tea in the microwave and it gives me the boke.

Changinmyname · 02/08/2020 15:25

I have a bit of a tummy ache now Confused I think you were all right!!

YANBU.

But then again, I cook pasta in an even lazier way.

Boil kettle.

Put water into pan, make sure it's boiling.

Add pasta, stir once, bring back up to boil.

Put lid on, turn gas off, walk away and do something more interesting for ten minutes.

Drain pasta. It's never overcooked or sticky.

gumball37 · 02/08/2020 15:27

I have a Tupperware container made for pasta in the microwave haha. 🤷

ZeroFuchsGiven · 02/08/2020 15:29

Should You evan eat Feta when pregnant?

myrtleWilson · 02/08/2020 15:29

My definition of cheesy pasta and yours are a country mile apart OP!

borisjohnsonsstylist · 02/08/2020 15:30

OP, I understand your craving. Pasta with grated cheese was always my "poorly tea" as a child, usually accompanied by Lucozade in a glass bottle with milky bar buttons for afters.

Now I'm a grown up, I still often have the cheesy pasta, but toss the pasta with a little butter and dried garlic first Wink

TyneTeas · 02/08/2020 15:30

I cook rice and pasta in a microwave steamer all the time. Boil the kettle, pour in, cook for five mins, stir, cook for five more minutes, lift out basket and drain

BlueSwathesChoose · 02/08/2020 15:31

Op don;t talk yourself into a tummy ache!

(Or allow us to talk you into it).

I talked myself into a bad oyster the other day. I was convinced it tasted off. Convinced i was going to be ill.

All was fine

@LaurieMarlow

Anyone of Italian origin will obviously have a conniption, but if it works for you 🤷‍♀️
