Was it unusual to have made pasta in the microwave?

I'm in my second trimester of pregnancy so of course i'm getting cravings by now. One of my strongest cravings is cheesy pasta Blush
Of course I know that that's not unusual at all and today I was bloody hungry. I read that pasta could be made in the microwave so I just quickly filled a bowl up with water and salt and made it in about two minutes.
The pasta was perfectly done in my eyes and I sprinkled on some cheese with pepper and it was an enjoyable meal.
But now my Dh thinks it's disgusting!! It wasn't like I was making a lot so a microwave was reasonable. Just a little bowl of some cheesy pasta isn't disgusting surely?? Angry
AIBU to think he's being a silly bastard for thinking it's weird to use a microwave?? Hmm

OP the pasta being cooked in the microwave wouldn't harm you it just looks not particularly appealing.
Did you have feta with it?

QuimJongUn · 02/08/2020 15:36

Years ago when I lived in a bedsit in London with no shared kitchen and only a fridge and microwave in my room, I always cooked pasta in the microwave. Got quite creative actually - could rustle up a decent tomato sauce to go with it, and often did macaroni cheese. Also used it for rice, poached/scrambled eggs and everything else besides. With that and my Breville sandwich toaster (it was the 80s!) I ate like a king!

Changinmyname · 02/08/2020 15:37

Yes it was feta with some herbs. Can I not eat that while pregnant?? Sad

@Changinmyname no you are not supposed to but you wouldn't have got any symptoms this quickly

@LaurieMarlow

Anyone of Italian origin will obviously have a conniption, but if it works for you 🤷‍♀️
They need to get over themselves, it's pasta Grin
elephantfeels · 02/08/2020 15:41

@Changinmyname does it say that it's pasteurised?

TheDaydreamBelievers · 02/08/2020 15:41

I used to do tortellini in the microwave in my research lab @Changinmyname - its just the same as in a pan!

squeekums · 02/08/2020 15:45

Ive done it and rice too. Its the only way i can cook rice without ruining it

knittingaddict · 02/08/2020 15:50

I don't see how that pasta could have been delicious. Where did the flavour come from? There's just about enough cheese to satisfy a tiny mouse.

I am thinking the OP might be lovely and slim and this is why i am NOT. because my diea of cheesy pasta is very very very different.

I might need to rethink all sorts of things. Microwave cooking. Rice. Portion sizes.

Get your ducks in a row OP. LTB.

There are septic Tupperwares made to cook pasta in the microwave. Definitely a Thing.

Hmm, that might apply here too BlueSwathesChoose. I do like my food and it shows..

I agree. My cheesy pasta is pasta swimming in a ocean of yellow cheesy sauce, with red wine to help it down.

I think OPs meal is to cheesy pasta what Alex Drummond is to lesbianism.

AdaColeman · 02/08/2020 15:57

@Changinmyname
You might like gnocchi which cooks really quickly in two minutes in boiling water. Great for a speedy snack.

You will be fine eating feta if it has been made from pasteurised milk. Check out the various brands on the supermarket website product information pages.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 02/08/2020 15:58

I didn't know you could cook pasta in the microwave. If you like it OP then that's all that matters

1forAll74 · 02/08/2020 16:00

If you enjoyed eating it, job done. I would assume it was ok to cook this way, but I don't have a microwave. Your partners comments have to be ignored!

Argggghhneedclarity · 02/08/2020 16:01

I used to do this when I had a microwave... you can cook most things in a microwave

Changinmyname · 02/08/2020 16:01

gnocky makes me sick Envy

I've cooked pasta in the microwave, very large bowl and lots of water - did it for the same time as the pasta would cook on the stove though, unless you have 5 min pasta which would cook quickly.

Haven't done it for a while, may have to experiment myself shortly!

thedancingbear · 02/08/2020 16:03

I can't see how this can possibly be hygienic.

OP, I voted YABU, because I'm appalled. But then I've been known to stick bacon in the microwave when I'm feeling lazy, so we're probably as bad as each other.

Dollywilde · 02/08/2020 16:12

Pasteurised feta is absolutely fine, and most supermarket stuff is, I know the half pack in my fridge right now is and that’s just Sainsburys own brand.

Pasta in the microwave sounds a bit weird to me but then I remember a boyfriend in my 20s ‘making’ me scrambled egg in the microwave for breakfast and it blew my mind Grin to be fair I don’t even own a microwave nowadays, DH and I had one in a rental place 5 years ago and we used it approximately once a month to reheat takeaway so figured it was a lot of counter space for a basically unused item!

Higgeldypiggeldy35 · 02/08/2020 16:39

I married an Italian. If he thought I ever made pasta in a microwave he would disown me Grin

karmasic · 02/08/2020 16:42

If your DH is Italian then you have just insulted him and his whole country & food culture. If he's not then you are in the clear.
