To leave Greater Manchester Lockdown to stay in self contained accommodation in another area.

Rising numbers of cases in Greater Manchester and new restrictions - no mingling of households.

Holiday booked for Saturday - self contained accommodation in another part of England.

We've been meticulous about masks, handwashing etc.

Are we unreasonable to still go?

Fuckwits! It’s Darwin’s way!
I couldn't agree more.

It seems like most people on here do think the virus is spread by other people - it’s obviously ‘fake news’ designed to stop people going on holiday and enjoying themselves!

As I said before ‘fuckwits’ and it is Darwins way.

@Fallingrain

Worth noting too that guidance and law are two hugely different things. The only actual law is that more than 30 people cannot meet. The rest is guidance. So as it stands it might be wrong to breach the guidance but it’s not illegal.
I don't think the regs for Greater Manchester have been published yet.

I don't really understand this comment.

In my area we have 4/1000 cases, mostly amongst the young (17-23 year olds). We as a family have been exceptionally cautious and I don't believe we are posing a risk by moving our household to a different house, as a household, and spending a weekend walking on beaches or in forests.
Not every family who lives in Manchester is plague-ridden. In fact if you let us visit there is a 0.004 percent chance we have covid. Less in our case as a) we think we had it the week before lockdown and b) we haven't undertaken any high risk activities. Not even been in a supermarket. All we do is wfh and walk the dog in local nature reserve.

@BwanaMakubwa - doubt you'll get a sensible response to your point. Some people are enjoying this opportunity to admonish others far too much. I notice many posters seem to like dropping these stern, condemnatory statements about selfishness and irresponsibility, but don't engage with follow-up questions or comments that point out how ridiculous their arguments are. Funny that.

“I don't think the regs for Greater Manchester have been published yet.”

The actual law is very scarce. The only thing that is illegal is a gathering of over 30 people. I suspect this won’t change. Of course there are strong valid arguments for respecting the guidance. But you are not committing a criminal offence by ignoring it.

PiataMaiNei · 01/08/2020 12:25

Very true. With that in mind I wonder what would happen if any arrests were made or fines issued yesterday or this morning in Greater Manchester for ignoring guidelines, and they were challenged.

hammie46i · 01/08/2020 12:36

I'd go but keep your distance from anyone outside of your bubble, which I expect you were planning anyway.

YogiBearcub · 02/08/2020 17:15

I think it's entirely uneasonable you still go - unless of course your name is Mrs. Dominic Cummings, as then of course rules don't apply. Angry

IncidentsandAccidents · 02/08/2020 17:35

I would go but limit activities while you're there - go on walks or to quiet beaches, no eating out or pubs etc. I don't see a problem with that at all.

Trebormints74 · 02/08/2020 18:04

According to the government website people in Greater Manchester CAN go on holiday with people from own household- I’ve screen shot the advice.

These aren't the rules - yet. We cannot go and visit someone and stay with them. We can relocate our household to a holiday cottage.

What rules are you referring to?
31don74 · 02/08/2020 22:14

Gosh you are so lucky to have been able to exist in a sterile vacuum - no visits to the shops, no deliveries or anything - how have you survived?

The point is the above is impossible - so you must have been at risk of being exposed to the virus - but then again this is Mumsnet and people don't live real lives on here do they?
