To leave Greater Manchester Lockdown to stay in self contained accommodation in another area.

Bishybarnybee · 30/07/2020 21:49

Rising numbers of cases in Greater Manchester and new restrictions - no mingling of households.

Holiday booked for Saturday - self contained accommodation in another part of England.

We've been meticulous about masks, handwashing etc.

Are we unreasonable to still go?

I was talking to my BIL (who is Muslim) yesterday about Boris's 'expect a 2nd wave in 2 weeks' ... it was him that pointed out that it was Eid this weekend and that was probably behind the 'warning'

BIL and his family have cancelled all their plans for this weekend 😥

PhilSwagielka · 30/07/2020 22:11

Are we allowed to travel outside the areas, though? E.g. from Manchester to Liverpool?

Staplemaple · 30/07/2020 22:11

My parents were planning on coming up for a visit. My brother lives in Liverpool, I live in Manchester, they can go into his house but they can't go into mine and I can't go and visit him. If they do come we'll have to meet in a local park. I can't get my head round it at all.

It seems pretty straightforward, what part are you struggling with?

granadagirl · 30/07/2020 22:11

They’ve left a big grey area open

I too live in Manchester
Tomorrow is 30*, you just watch everyone come out
Not just greater Manchester
Everywhere

It’s the stupid people who think they’re different from others
Like my next door neighbour
Having barbecue with family & friends from different household

What makes these idiots think there different
Makes my blood boil

pandafunfactory · 30/07/2020 22:12

Go on holiday op. The rules don't prevent you and I'm sure you need it. If you are told not to leave the area then you can't but that isn't what has been said. This is clearly to prevent the Muslim community having a massive Covid party this weekend. You holidaying in the uk and maintaining social distance at home is not an issue.

Janaih · 30/07/2020 22:12

I'm currently on holiday in Manchester. Am I allowed to come home on Saturday? Confused

KingFredsTache · 30/07/2020 22:13

Oh christ, here we go again! Grin

Yes I thought it was just that you can't meet up indoors from tonight, it's not a proper lockdown is it?

AlternativePerspective · 30/07/2020 22:13

So people are advocating cancelling a holiday you could go on yesterday but not tomorrow? yes. The risk has now been deemed to be higher, so things need to be done now if they could have been different yesterday then that’s unfortunate, but they aren’t.

Friend was due to fly to Majorca today. Working from home so quarantine wasn’t. Problem coming back. Then the FCO changed their advice and the holiday, which has been booked for two years, and is the first family holiday he will have been on in twenty yers, had to be cancelled.

Of course people are going to be gutted. But better that you miss a couple of weeks holiday than potentially the rest of your life, or end up with serious complications if you catch COVID.

Beamur · 30/07/2020 22:13

I thought the changes were just about households mingling? Does it actually say anything about staying at home?

PhilSwagielka · 30/07/2020 22:13

@Staplemaple The fact it's OK to meet my parents, should they choose to come, in a pub or cafe but not in my own house.

(And I'm Jewish, not Muslim, it's not an Eid thing)

Ilikewinter · 30/07/2020 22:14

They need to deal with the pubs and young people, cant tell you the amount of young people ive see coming into town today...Manchester..., all dressed up, large groups of girls, no social distancing, no face masks....and i get aggro when i refuse to let them in the shop cause they dont have a face mask.
Anyway, no one is going to police this,

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 30/07/2020 22:14

People are so rude.

The only change is that people can't now meet indoors with other households.

It doesn't prevent
Meeting other households in parks etc
Shops being open
Pubs and restaurants opening
Gyms, swimming pools opening
Hotels etc opening
No travel restrictions.

Go on your holiday. If you've been sensible to now and have no symptoms you're not doing anything wrong. The guilt tripping is outrageous.

Othering · 30/07/2020 22:15

The government would have to bring in wild horses to stop me op.

userxx · 30/07/2020 22:16

@FabulouslyGlamourousFerret That's exactly the reason.

PhilSwagielka · 30/07/2020 22:16

@Ilikewinter Where I live most people go into the shops with masks on, but there's a few who don't. I'm sorry you have to deal with people being shitheads. Evening/night shifts must be hell.

I've not been into town in ages. Last time I went was to go to Oldham for a COVID test, funnily enough.

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 30/07/2020 22:17

Friend was due to fly to Majorca today. Working from home so quarantine wasn’t. Problem coming back. Then the FCO changed their advice and the holiday, which has been booked for two years, and is the first family holiday he will have been on in twenty yers, had to be cancelled.

Totally different. Your friend's change relate to travel restrictions and FCO advice. One is not the same as the other.

AlternativePerspective · 30/07/2020 22:17

Yeh,if you cant meet your folks in your house just go to the pub no, you can’t. The restrictions apply to all indoor settings.

But as usual people want their hands holding throughout without being able to use common sense.

Which part of “all indoor settings” do people find so hard to grasp?

pandafunfactory · 30/07/2020 22:18

@Iamtooknackeredtorun completely agree. The guilt tripping is way out of hand on here now.

KingFredsTache · 30/07/2020 22:18

God, you can tell some people have been so eager for this to happen so that they can go back to bollocking people for thinking about setting foot outside the door!

funinthesun19 · 30/07/2020 22:19

Are we still allowed our support bubbles or is that now not allowed either?

HooseDilemma · 30/07/2020 22:20

Go and enjoy your holiday! Especially if you're going to self catering accommodation with only your own household. Just don't allow non-household people in your holiday accommodation. You're still adhering to the stricter regulations, just not at home!

Yes, the "most sensible" thing to do would be stay at home. But that also applies to the rest of the country, and isn't specific to the newly lockdown areas.

User87471643901065319 · 30/07/2020 22:20

The only change is that people can't now meet indoors with other households.
You can't meet other households in your garden either. Just seen that on BBC 10 p.m. news.

AgeLikeWine · 30/07/2020 22:20

This is 100% about Eid.

The festival falls tomorrow, and the government are obviously terrified about parties and large groups socialising in one another’s houses.

winterisstillcoming · 30/07/2020 22:21

You are perfectly allowed to go on holiday. Go on holiday.

Staplemaple · 30/07/2020 22:21

They're saying not to @PhilSwagielka

"Department of Health and Social Care had confirmed the restrictions will apply to all indoor settings - so it will mean that no two households should meet in places including pubs and restaurants."

This is just the gov guidance, my personal opinion differs.
