To leave Greater Manchester Lockdown to stay in self contained accommodation in another area.

Rising numbers of cases in Greater Manchester and new restrictions - no mingling of households.

Holiday booked for Saturday - self contained accommodation in another part of England.

We've been meticulous about masks, handwashing etc.

Are we unreasonable to still go?

Government website says you can go on holiday with your own household.

TheLegendOfZelda · 31/07/2020 18:47

@Pembsgirl

We're actually at the opposite side of the coin to the O.P. in as much as we are the holiday property owners, and have guests due today from the Greater Manchester area. This morning when we heard what was going on, we really didn't want them to come, but have been pushed into it by the holiday company that supposedly represent us. We asked for guidance from the police, who told us that the guests should be guided by their conscience!! They're coming, and I'm really not happy about it, as they're likely to be bringing the virus with them to an area where we haven't been too badly hit until now!
Just don't rent your house out if this kind of thing is too much for you

Rates are about, what, 4/1000 people? You'd be pretty unlucky.

Florist1970 · 31/07/2020 18:50

They are statistically more likely NOT to have the virus.

Devora13 · 31/07/2020 18:50

It does seem pretty unreasonable that you should miss out if you have followed the rules to the letter (as much as it's possible to understand them).
Just because people in your area may have taken action that has caused a resurgence (and I wonder how many of those passing judgment face the same scenario) doesn't mean every person I'm that area should be ostricised.
On the other hand, you know the type of holiday you're planning. If it's mainly outdoor activities, limited contact with others etc, I think I'd lean in favour of going ahead with it.

Cloudspotter · 31/07/2020 19:05

The levels of paranoia and NIMBYISM on here are simply mind-boggling. I mean, this further lockdown is relatively minor. It's aimed at discouraging people from meeting up in homes - which they shouldn't be doing extensively anyway.

It's not an indication that everyone in Greater Manchester has got the bloody virus. 🙄 Confused

Seriously, how far out of proportion can the panic get?

If someone is coming to your holiday home for a holiday that they have paid for, and this is legally allowed, you can't expect them not to come just because there is a tiny increase somewhere near them. You might be more likely to catch it locally. It's random. No-one knows.

Casschops · 31/07/2020 19:18

The guidance is thst we can't have people in our own gardens and houses. Pubs remain open, there is no reason why you cant go on holiday no restrictions on that at all.

AnnaMariaDreams · 31/07/2020 19:20

This is crazy! Going from Bradford area to Somerset now and I can’t wait! We need a holiday. We cancelled Majorca to be sensible and booked this instead.
Looking forward to fish and chips on beaches. Stonehenge, Longleat and NT places. We have a couple of meals out booked as well Grin

FelicisNox · 31/07/2020 20:15

YANBU.

We're not in lockdown anymore and so long as you still adhere to strenuous cleaning habits, social distancing and remember to wear a mask when required you are allowed to go.

As you say, it's self contained accommodation. Just take plenty of cleaning products.

Batinahat · 31/07/2020 20:22

The government guidance includes an answer to this specific question:

I live in the area. Can I leave the area to go on holiday?

You should not travel outside of this area to meet people in their homes or gardens. You can still go on holiday, but you should only do this with people you live with (or have formed a support bubble with).

31don74 · 31/07/2020 20:40

Fuckwits!
It’s Darwin’s way!

PablosHoney · 31/07/2020 20:41

Yes this is the theory of evolution 🙄

Baybetterdays · 31/07/2020 20:51

I would - enjoy your holiday OP!

Bishybarnybee · 31/07/2020 21:32

31don74

Sorry, who are you calling fuckwits?

OP posts:
ohrien · 31/07/2020 21:52

Self righteous martyrs in this thread calling the OP out on thinking the rules don’t apply to them.

Perhaps look at the rules before proclaiming yourself as the Covid police. Nothing to say you can’t travel from within GM to elsewhere in the UK.

We’re from Manchester and have today driven down to relatives in Surrey. Don’t feel in the least bit guilty about it.

Kbr22 · 31/07/2020 21:58

Why can’t you go? The guidelines are to do with people not social distancing and meeting to many people in their homes. Go , enjoy, and act responsibly to others and hope that they act responsibly towards you x

bellinisurge · 31/07/2020 21:59

There is not a "do not travel " restriction.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 31/07/2020 23:37

OP the rules are so confusing and mismatched that I think people have to apply
Common sense

So this bubble thing is still running allegedly
But beaches are FULL

If you have stayed home , not massively mixed I can see how a car drive and cottage stay is going to do any harm

5000 people on a beach , using cafes , bins , toilets , gates probably will

Thisisworsethananticpated · 31/07/2020 23:39

The guidance is thst we can't have people in our own gardens and houses. Pubs remain open, there is no reason why you cant go on holiday no restrictions on that at all

When the rules are so biased towards economic growth ... and I don’t necessarily blame them

But it’s a massive headfuck

Devora13 · 31/07/2020 23:47

I think the fuckwits/Darwin comment may have been about survival of the fittest.
Because of course we haven't evolved intellectually at all, and will obviously throw all weaker members of society to the lions rather than help each other out.

BwanaMakubwa · 31/07/2020 23:59

I live in lockdown area
We will be taking family holiday in 3 weeks unless rules change - we are staying in a holiday cottage and will only be with household. We will be visiting outside attractions - forest, beach that kind of thing.

What I think is much less likely is going to my mum's house for a planned stay we were hoping to do; at the moment that would be outside the rules.

Fallingrain · 01/08/2020 00:47

I think that is totally fine. It’s no mingling within the greater Manchester area. Partly because they don’t want hospitals there to be overwhelmed. Going elsewhere is perfectly legal.

userxx · 01/08/2020 07:27

Seriously, how far out of proportion can the panic get?

Judging by some of the threads on MN as late, there are no limits 🙈

AntiHop · 01/08/2020 07:36

I would go, op.

HeyBlaby · 01/08/2020 07:38

'as they're likely to be bringing the virus'

How ridiculous.

Fallingrain · 01/08/2020 08:13

Worth noting too that guidance and law are two hugely different things. The only actual law is that more than 30 people cannot meet. The rest is guidance. So as it stands it might be wrong to breach the guidance but it’s not illegal.
