To report someone returning from Spain

Archie1989 · 27/07/2020 13:08

A friend of my partner has said he has no intention of isolating on his return from Spain. Should I anonymously report them? My mum was on the shielding list and it’s making me quite angry. People who went abroad would know the risks during all of this....and then to refuse to isolate shows such arrogance and disregard for others.

I don’t know this person well and I don’t want to make my partner feel stuck in the middle.

@userxx

How are all these people qualified to make their own judgements and risk assessments?

Eh ? Surely that's how you mange to get through life.

Making your own judgements within the parameters set by government is one thing - choosing to go out to a restaurant but maintaining social distancing, washing your hands etc. But making the judgement that you'll provide false information to the restaurant in the event track and trace need to contact you on the basis that you'll be fine and it's all just a storm in s teacup and that you can't possibly isolate for fourteen days and you're at low risk and it's no worse than a cold anyway - not fine.
Mydogisthebestest · 28/07/2020 12:57

I’m seriously doing my best. I think all the time about my risk to other people and whether I can mitigate it.

If someone ACTUALLY came home and ACTUALLY didn’t isolate and I knew that, I’d probably report them. And I’d have no problem giving my name to the police to do so.

But that isn’t enough for some people. They want more. They actually want to report what someone says they’re going to do, not what they actually do.

I’m not supposed to go into shops or on buses or anything according to some people because I can’t wear a mask.

Where does it end? At some point we all just have to take responsibility for our own risk, and do as much as we are comfortable with, within the law, surely?

Mydogisthebestest · 28/07/2020 12:58

But hooves. You don’t want people like me allowed to go anywhere. You would deny me entry and put me off a bus, if it was up to you. Even though both those things are permitted by law.

That’s just not fair.

userxx · 28/07/2020 13:00

@Hearhoovesthinkzebras I think they will be very few people who give incorrect information in the case of Track and Trace. The majority are doing their bit.

Can you actually show me where I've said that?

Oh no, you can't because I haven't said it.

ClaryFray · 28/07/2020 13:04

Report them for what?

They can say they're not going to but they haven't actually done anything wrong yet. I can say I'm going to murder someone (I'm not) but until an actual law is broken nothing can be done.

Mydogisthebestest · 28/07/2020 13:05

You said you didn’t want me beside you on a bus because I might breathe on you. Even though I said I’d turn away, that wasn’t enough for you.

You also said that despite you wearing a mask and being behind a screen, you would refuse to serve me in a shop.

And you were very nasty about my relationship.

Mydogisthebestest · 28/07/2020 13:06

You said you would expect me To get off the bus if you were already there.

I don't know. Track and trace themselves admit to how few people they are actually able to contact and a fair few posters on different threads are saying that they don't give correct details, not do their friends.

I wonder, for example, how many customers have been traced from the pub in Sussex where two bar staff and 16 customers have so far been found to have it? I think they are asking customers over a ten day period to come forward so I wonder how many have been traceable from the details they gave?

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 28/07/2020 13:07

@Mydogisthebestest

No I did not.

I said that if I were already sitting down I wouldn't want someone not wearing a mask to come and sit next to me.

OLGADEEPOLGA · 28/07/2020 13:09

Mind your own business. With this government this person could just say he had heard they do better eye tests in Spain.

I was told to buy myself a portable screen. Nothing about me sitting behind a screen and not serving you.

And you were very nasty about my relationship.

Was I? All I recall saying was that it was your currently shielding partner's decision as to whether he comes to visit you or not - why's that being nasty?

crosseyedMary · 28/07/2020 13:21

OP could perform a citizens arrest and then chain the offender to a radiator for 14 days?

Mydogisthebestest · 28/07/2020 13:21

That’s not what you said and you know it.

I said your work should provide you with ppe and you twisted that. Just as you twisted it and said I was trying to force you out of your job.

It’s not all about you. There are always competing rights to be balanced and it won’t be perfect for everyone but it will be as good as it can be.

Most people are complying with the law.

I am allowed to go and see my partner from this weekend. I am allowed to go into shops and on buses without a mask. You have no right to ask that I not get on the bus if you are there and it is full (which is what you said).

In point if fact, I don’t use the bus because I’m rural and they aren’t frequent and also because I have assessed the risk and because I can’t wear a mask I feel that risk is too high, so I use My car. But according to some on here I’m a slave trade excuser and shouldn’t do that either.

I feel like I’m going to be damned no matter what I do even though I am doing my absolute best.

This is the reference to your relationship for example

Your post

Mydogisthebestest

I haven’t seen my DP since March. It seems from this thread that I should never see him again. Because he’s shielding and I can’t wear a mask.

My reply

Well that will be up to him to decide I guess.

Somehow, according to you now, that's me being very nasty about your relationship.

You told me, in order to protect myself at work from people not wearing masks, I should wear a mask, a face shield and buy a portable screen to use. You also said that some jobs aren't open to disabled people and that, because of Covid, it might mean more jobs fall into this category. That to me, is suggesting that I should leave my job.

You are now turning this thread into a TAAT. I'm not going to copy and paste every post in order to prove that you are entirely misrepresenting what was said.

Best suggestion so far. Grin

On a side note, wasn't the first major outbreak in Australia, in recent weeks, in a hotel where they held people in quarantine, but who didn't distance enough from hotel staff? ShockHmmConfusedGrin

Mydogisthebestest · 28/07/2020 13:34

You are lying. But hey ho. You twist everything.

Emancipated · 28/07/2020 13:35

I would give them time. You don’t k ow for certain they will or won’t isolate. My initial reaction was ‘ I’m not doing that!!’ But I will. Sometimes we need to just process the shock of sudden change.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 28/07/2020 13:39

@Mydogisthebestest

The thread is there for all to see and it most certainly isn't me who is lying.

I've just shown the conversation about your partner - you know, the one where you said here that I had been really nasty about your relationship. Of course, that wasn't lying or twisting what was said was it?

Mydogisthebestest · 28/07/2020 13:44

Shall I go and copy where you said I shouldn’t get on a bus if you were there?

Where’s your proof I advocated for you to be put out of your job or said you should buy your own shield or ppe?

Greydove28 · 28/07/2020 13:44

Perhaps they went to spain to test their eyesight

Notcoolmum · 28/07/2020 13:54

Other European countries have made much more sensible decisions regarding the increased cases in Spain.

There is a lot of hysteria on this thread making an assumption that everyone returning from Spain is infected with Covid and willingly going
Round infecting other people. For the vast majority the increased risk is no more than having been to their local supermarket or pub.

The advice from our government is currently very confusing. Go to work. Go to the shops. Go to the pub. Travel on public transport. Yet still very restrictive about seeing close friends and family.

Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Socially distance from people you don't know and try and calm down.

Lweji · 28/07/2020 13:59

Interesting article, although almost a week old, on border control within Europe.
Most countries have no restrictions within the EU, with some exceptions. Notably the UK, which is rather ironic...
Some take into account regional differences in case numbers.
Others offer a choice between test or quarantine.
