Would you be happy with the finding of this cake for £80

I ordered a graduation cake from a lady who I have used for years and all of the cakes have been beautiful which is why I've returned every time. However I picked up this yesterday and I'm a little disappointed in the size and finish compared to the picture I sent of how I would like it. I've messaged her to tell her I was a little disappointed with it but she hasn't replied so am I being unreasonable? She wasn't in when I picked it up she left it with her teen son to hand over so couldn't really say anything there and then.

I paid £80 for my sons last birthday cake it was 2 tier, designed as a Thomas the tank cake (he was turning 2) and it was brilliant.

While I can see you being a bit disappointed as it's not as tall, and looks a bit rustic or messy.
The top looks the same, the colour is similar, i wouldn't pay £80 probably more like £50/60. It's strange you didn't know what it would be made of, how many it would feed or its size, I ensure I give my cake maker all the details.

You should give an honest feedback, and list the full picture of the cake.

LagunaBubbles · 26/07/2020 20:03

I dont think she did it, so clearly got someone else to do it as she was too busy. However I would doubt you would get a refund as it was eaten.

funinthesun19 · 26/07/2020 20:05

Compared to what you asked for, it looks really bad.

I mean it’s still nice and everything. But it’s more amateur nice than professional nice. Definitely not worth £80!

bigmamama · 26/07/2020 20:06

@forfoxsakee Iv just ordered a 2 tier peter rabbit cake for my sons 1st birthday for £75 and if it came out anything like yours and not the picture. I'd massively complain!
My cake lady is also professional and Iv used her for a few years, so I definitely wouldn't expect a response like what you got. The cake is nothing like the picture you sent and definitely not worth £80!

hoxtonbabe · 26/07/2020 20:07

@Handsoffisback

Hmmm, have you picked up on a scent? Have you ordered a cake and received one of a similar standard, has the son been the one to hand it over? Grin

I’m racking my brain with the limited clues as to who would be as famous as having a book and send out a cake like that... the plot thickens.

InsertHilariousUserName · 26/07/2020 20:11

Did you actually send her a picture of the cake you collected? (Sorry if you said - I couldnt see where you did)

Or did you just say you weren't happy? Maybe it looked much better before it was boxed and sort of collapsed after clutching at straws

I’d be very unhappy with this for £80

She said it took her 3 days to ice that???!! She's being ridiculous.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 26/07/2020 20:24

@Handsoffisback

OP why have you said you don’t drive?
Eh?
BlueLagoona · 26/07/2020 20:27

Total rush job, the very poor buttercream finish, the tacky colours, incorrectly sized and messy numbers.

She’s slapped it together with zero care and I’d be very unhappy with paying £80 for this.

I would message back and ask for a 50% refund and if she refuses post a review.

Deadsouth · 26/07/2020 20:31

You have a thread on here that says you have no children of your own yet and your mum uses you to drive her places.

Did you maybe pick it up yourself and forget to check it?

Ouch....there's clearly some details missing somewhere.

Oh ffs, op Hmm. Is this all bullshit?
Livingoffcoffee · 26/07/2020 20:40

The more I think about this thread the more confused I am...

OP: She wasn't in when I picked it up she left it with her teen son to hand over so couldn't really say anything there and then.

OP, a few posts in: My daughter collected it as I don't drive and she was running errands on that side of town.

2155User · 26/07/2020 20:40

Well this is getting exciting

Bet it turns out Mary fecking Berry made it. It'll be as believable as the rest of this thread.

Livingoffcoffee · 26/07/2020 20:43

@Handsoffisback

Did you make the cake? Is this some kind of reverse feedback thing?
That's what I was starting to wonder Hmm
hoxtonbabe · 26/07/2020 20:43

@Handsoffisback

Now when you say J, not JA surely? Although now I’m more interested in the car driving thing.
