To ask if you are OK with your daughter's subs being spent on this?

I've just come to update you on my case against Girlguiding, where they expelled me for raising safeguarding concerns and for asking why we had to believe in inner gender identity to be a leader.
Girlguiding have spent AT LEAST £35,000 and probably more like £100,000 of the subs you pay for your daughter to go to Rainbows, Brownies or Guides, on defending a case against me, a committed leader who wants to make sure girls are safe and leaders have freedom of expression.

Full text of my update in the next post so as not to bore you to death!

They are spending the money because YOU brought the case forward.... so yabu to moan about them spending the money on a case you raised.

KatieAlcock · 24/07/2020 20:06

@AnneOfQueenSables the law doesn't protect you if you "believe in" science, but beliefs and religion are protected characteristics under the EA2010.

IndecentFeminist · 24/07/2020 20:07

I'm with you now @AnneOfQueenSables. I agree, this isn't a belief system, but a fact.

RunningFromInsanity · 24/07/2020 20:07

A lot of it is your opinion.
And you are of course allowed to stick up for it and take it to court but it’s a bit hypocritical of you to then criticise GG for also sticking up for their opinions.

AnneOfQueenSables · 24/07/2020 20:08

Sorry that was to IndecentFeminist.
Did they ever let you see their risk assessments for the change to single gender? When I was with GG, their risk assessments were impressive and extensive but there's no way any assessment on this change stacks up.

IAmReportingYouForBBQing · 24/07/2020 20:08

@mummyoneboy19

If you knew ANYTHING about the case you would take back what you said.

GG was set up for females so they had a safe but fun space without Males. But now anybody can join if they "feel" female. But actual females can't if they done feel female. That means guides etc now has Male leaders and Male children. Do you want Males being allowed into our daughters showers? Tents? They already allow teenage boys to do this, and adult MEN are "supervising". I do not want teen boys in my daughters tent or bathrooms. And GG Have decided that parents don't even get notified if there is a Male going away in the trip. That breaches safe guarding in every possible way.

Miniminiminimini · 24/07/2020 20:09

What are you suing for exactly? “Injury to feelings” = money?

KatieAlcock · 24/07/2020 20:10

They are spending the money because YOU brought the case forward.

The could have spent a heck of a lot less. Or, you know, just safeguarded properly in the first place. Or listened to their leaders.

OP posts:
ShiveringCoyote · 24/07/2020 20:10

Anything that reduces the safeguarding of children must be fought or cases like Saville will just keep happening and hands will be wrung and they will question why did nobody do anything.

Fair play to you Katie for standing up for children.

Saxa23 · 24/07/2020 20:11

I hope you do well - really I do- but this is false information and damaging to local units.

They aren’t using subs. GG don’t take the full amount, it is spread over counties and countries, and spent within their own unit.

To tell parents subs are being used gives a negative impression of guiding in their own area, and only harms local units at a time where people are choosing not to pay subs during the pandemic.

I hope you get what you want, but if you’re into ruining Girlguiding into the ground.... no. It only harms the innocent girls, volunteers and staff who aren’t behind making these decisions.

StillWeRise · 24/07/2020 20:11

Nothing Katie has said or done equates to 'being upset trans people exist'
this is about not believing people can change sex, and not being discriminated against for that belief
also, about preserving a single sex place for girls, for reasons of dignity, safety. freedom from sexist stereotypes and in some cases, for religious observance

mummyoneboy19 · 24/07/2020 20:12

@IAmReportingYouForBBQing

Literally know a female leader who does not identify as female.

Do you have any accurate figures for the number of men identifying as women within the organisation? Who may have been in any of the scenarios you portray?

Binterested · 24/07/2020 20:12

I wonder if GG are getting funding for this from Stonewall or similar. I am a charity trustee and we would struggle to justify such expenditure against a lone litigant

EmpressLangClegSpartacus · 24/07/2020 20:13

You’re doing a great job on this, thanks Katie!

Girlguiding should be for girls - human female children. That includes the girls who, for religious reasons otherwise, might not be able to be part of a mixed-sex group.

mummyoneboy19 · 24/07/2020 20:15

@StillWeRise

She’s suing for “injury to feelings” because GirlGuiding UK disagreed with her “belief” that people are unable to change sex.

Seems like she’s upset trans people exist to me.

I really don't think you can criticise when you raised the case.

They have to remain within the law. Being transgender is a protected quality. I agree with their stance.

It’s physically impossible to change sex. People can alter their bodies & change their gender but that’s all about ‘identity’ & social constructs anyway.

No matter how nice a self identifying trans woman is, there is a major issue in them being given overnight responsibility for teenage girls. As someone who has had a lot of experience taking teenagers on school trips - camping, staying in hostels and hotels - there are regularly instances when staff have to act in loco parentis with regard to periods, injuries requiring medical treatment where children need to remove clothes, disclosures when girls feel they're in a safe space, incidents at bedtime, even bed wetting (usually when drunk) etc. At times, the need for a woman to deal with many of these issues was paramount. The GG insisting that a trans woman can replace a biological woman and that parents and children are not to be told ignores the wishes and rights of girls and their parents to access same sex support where appropriate. Unbelievable that they have got themselves into this position - but when you look at where they sourced their advice, unsurprising.

RunningFromInsanity · 24/07/2020 20:17

Girlguiding should be for girls and yet Scouts allows boys and if they refused girls they would be slated....

Picass0L1ne · 24/07/2020 20:18

I agree with their stance too.

Hoards of men go on overnight school trips with girls, who gives a shit if men are on guiding trips.Confused

She sued because she rightly thought parents don’t want their girls sharing a tent with boys without their knowledge. Very basic safeguarding.

The more I think about this the more I think Stonewall are involved on the money side.

Be trans all you like. No one cares how you live your life. But safeguarding rules apply to everyone. No one is exempt. Not priests (look how that turned out). Not Celebs on tv (ditto). Not my dad who’s as safe as they come. Not your really nice trans friend who wouldn’t hurt a fly. Children’s organisations should know this.

whattimeisitrightnow · 24/07/2020 20:20

I also don’t understand how the OP is being anti-trans. Being transgender is different to self-IDing. People who are transgender don’t choose to be so, they simply are. People who self-ID can be literally anyone. It’s absolutely a safeguarding issue: anyone who doesn’t see a problem with someone who is in every other respect a man calling themselves female and accessing spaces for girls without the parents being told is being disingenuous. This is once again a case of people who pretend to be/feel female giving those who are actually transgender a bad name.
