Would you pay £150 for pyjamas?

I’ve seen some pyjamas I really like with a jaguar print on. They were in a sponsored ad which said something along the lines of ‘everyone needs two pairs of our pyjamas during lockdown’ so I clicked and then saw they were £150 and made of cotton, not silk or gold or cashmere. Part of me thinks if you can afford it, what the hell but the other part of me questions if anyone in their right mind would pay this. So, AIBU to think £150 pyjamas are an utter waste of money?

Noo

Nanalisa60 · 23/07/2020 22:33

If you can afford £150 for PJ,s then knock your self out and treat yourself.

Butteredtoast55 · 23/07/2020 22:42

You spend your money how you like, OP. If you can afford them, you will feel totally wonderful wearing them. I'm all for a social conscience but please ignore anyone who makes out like spending money on PJ'S is tantamount to setting fire to £50 notes in front of an orphanage. I would say, however, that for £150 I would expect better pattern matching on the finish! (Too much time spent watching Sewing Bee/Patrick Grant).

utterlynutty · 23/07/2020 22:46

Definitely not.

NotMeNoNo · 23/07/2020 22:50

Cotton can be as high quality as cashmere. You can get Liberty Tana cotton lawn pyjamas for over £200.
I can see why they are expensive, small production run, bespoke etc and (stitching problem apart) I'm sure they are a quality fabric and hopefully not made in a sweat shop. Pure cotton pjs are lovely to wear. I think its a fair price for an expensive thing.

PhoneLock · 23/07/2020 22:51

If you like them OP, you buy them. I wouldn't.

I don't wear pyjamas.

Verybookish · 23/07/2020 23:08

My husband got me these. They are wonderful. Part of the pleasure of wearing them though is that they are a real indulgence and that I would have never bought them for myself.

Ibizafun · 23/07/2020 23:13

There’s cotton and there’s cotton... for good quality yes I def would

Ellisandra · 23/07/2020 23:19

If I looked like the model does in them, I’d happily pay £150 and wear them all day - I think they’re lovely!

But I’d look short and dumpy and silly 🤷🏻‍♀️ So no!

BluebellForest836 · 23/07/2020 23:24

I wouldn’t spend £150 on them as I’m not keen.

Most Iv ever spent on a set is £75 and they were CK.
cheapest Iv ever spent is like £3 in the primark sale Grin

Chocoholic12 · 23/07/2020 23:32

I would pay that but not for those things.

CharlOtteSometime · 23/07/2020 23:58

@massivecheeseplant are you using an affiliated link there? If so, you should declare that it is.

Re the question - Id buy them if I absolutely loved them but luckily I don't. Just don't like the prints particularly. I but Hush pyjama bottoms and they're decent for the price and wear and wash well. I pay about £35

Xmasbaby11 · 24/07/2020 00:03

I actually love them! So if you can afford it why not? They are beautiful.

jessyjo2 · 24/07/2020 00:09

If u just go to Primark u b able to buy PJs for life at that price!!

fantasmasgoria1 · 24/07/2020 00:14

I sometimes buy primark pyjamas and they last ages. I have pairs from 4 years ago! More expensive ones haven't lasted any better even if I was a multi millionaire I would not spend £150 on pyjamas!!!

AllieCat26 · 24/07/2020 00:23

Haha you wouldn’t like that I spent £250 on a pair of pyjamas during lockdown. I figured that as all I’ve basically been wearing is pyjamas, I should get some fancy tuxedo pyjamas so I can feel dressed up in lockdown attire. Means I can get all dressed up for that short daily commute from the bedroom to the office 😂

These are nice and a tiny bit cheaper Grin

katy1213 · 24/07/2020 00:38

Or wait for the sale. Because I should think there will be plenty left at the end of the season. Okay if you like that kind of thing, but not many will.

Amymone · 24/07/2020 00:59

I actually have these very PJs and I love them!
DP bought them for me for xmas. Would never pay full price myself, but have bought them in the sale as gifts.
Big snag is they need washing on a cold wash so hardly ever wear them because I can't just bung them in with the other darks

Alsohuman · 24/07/2020 01:01

On the contrary, they’ve been making them for years, they’re very popular, despite the price.
TimeWastingButFun · 24/07/2020 01:06

I'd rather sleep nude and have a lot of champagne!

whattodo2019 · 24/07/2020 08:41

If you can afford it, why not?? They look fabulous

SinkGirl · 24/07/2020 08:48

I wear pyjamas (well technically loungewear but they’re pyjamas basically) most of the time. I have chronic pain, and am constantly running after my twins at home and have seemingly lost the ability to feel comfortable in non-stretch clothes 😂

Occasionally I treat myself to a very nice set (maybe £50-£60?) because they tend to last longer and it’s what I wear most. I probably wouldn’t spend that though - and if I did it would be on something that I could wear to the corner shop without looking like I’m wearing pyjamas for those days where I cannot handle the pain of real clothes.

Alloverthegrapevine · 24/07/2020 08:55

No I don't think so but OTOH, I do know that they'll be much nicer to wear than "standard" PJs so if I was going to wear them a lot I might consider it.

In most things there is a massive leap in price between "OK" quality and really good quality and the quality ones will ways be more pleasant to use.

It always seems odd to me that people will pay £££ for a dress for a wedding, for example, which will be worn only a handful of times but pay much less for something worn daily.

firefly · 24/07/2020 09:06

I have the pineapple ones from this brand and I adore them so comfy and so flattering. They were given as a gift so I haven't spent the money myself, although I am considering a second pair.I do treat them with kid gloves though - wash separately from everything else as I have seen some reviews re the dye running etc. Go for it!
