Would you pay £150 for pyjamas?

I’ve seen some pyjamas I really like with a jaguar print on. They were in a sponsored ad which said something along the lines of ‘everyone needs two pairs of our pyjamas during lockdown’ so I clicked and then saw they were £150 and made of cotton, not silk or gold or cashmere. Part of me thinks if you can afford it, what the hell but the other part of me questions if anyone in their right mind would pay this. So, AIBU to think £150 pyjamas are an utter waste of money?

No, but I sleep naked and overheat in temperatures out of single figures with a 4 TOG duvet. They're pretty, and would be a pleasure to wear on weekends away early morning lounging but no, not £150 of my money.

@Laigny

Free advertising for the company there Hmm
Exactly my thoughts.

Can I afford them? Yes.

Would I buy them? No.

GenevaL · 23/07/2020 21:07

Several of you have posted links to some really lovely ones! The Anthropologie ones are especially nice

No. I have paid £50 for silk pjs (they were in the same), and that seemed like a lot for something I'll never wear out of the house, but they turned out to be worth it for the sheer pleasure I get when I wear them.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/07/2020 21:09

They're lovely so if they were in my size, yes

LaurieFairyCake · 23/07/2020 21:12

I also have to say some clothes you wear are genuinely pleasurable

I have a silk dress, a dozen silk nighties, masses of cashmere (all sales/eBay) and the pleasure I get from them is so much

I also have loads of Boden pull ons- so comfy, so attractive

PickAChew · 23/07/2020 21:12

They look lovely but not £150 lovely.

VelvetRibbon · 23/07/2020 21:16

Imagining you spend half the day in them, if the quality was worth it then I'd say go for it. You could spend £150 on a day outfit easily, why not have something lovely for the other ~12hours?

They would have to be absolutely beautifully made, and sure to last however.

XingMing · 23/07/2020 21:20

@LaurieFairyCake, I totally get the pleasure to be had from wearing lovely clothes in fine fabrics. Two silk tunics I bought in Bali to sling on over my cossies for lunch etc turned into useful loungewear once the style looked past it for public view. One was a good winter nightdress and was worn to death; the other gets slung on in the morning to get my second cuppa. I would replace the first by online order if I could remember the name of the shop... it was very nice silk.

Juiceey · 23/07/2020 21:20

They don't look lovely enough for £150. But. I need to FEEL them. Ar they silky soft? That would sway me.

Aquicknamechange2019 · 23/07/2020 21:21

I'm not buying anything called a Pyjama, out of principle. Whoever decided to use the singular rather than the plural for pyjamaS, trouserS RTC is an idiot.

honeygirlz · 23/07/2020 21:25

It’s all relative isn’t it. £150 is like £1.50 for some.

The GAP does amazingly soft cotton PJs, I don’t see the need to spend £150.

If I bought them I’d never wear them! I did get gifted some silk pyjamas and I’ve been saving them for best for 3 years Blush

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 23/07/2020 21:26

Oh no, @honeygirlz, wear them!! Silk pyjamas are fabulous. No need to save them for best - YOU are best!

MulberryPeony · 23/07/2020 21:28

Oh I love the prints at their nibs.

PickAChew · 23/07/2020 21:29

I have these Seasalt pyjamas but paid about £35 in the sale. Lovely soft cotton but I do prefer Jersey tops for sleeping in.

I love Bonsoir PJ's, and sets. Very decadent and sumptuous 🥰

PickAChew · 23/07/2020 21:33

@BitOfFun

And 100% polyester. I have some viscose ones I can't wear because I wake up with a heat rash. Polyester would be some form of turture.
honeygirlz · 23/07/2020 21:33

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal aww thanks! I’ll try and wear them when I have next have fresh sheets!

BitOfFun · 23/07/2020 21:34

Oh cripes, really? Bummer.

Do you have to wear them with a red lip and a nude nail?
HelloDulling · 23/07/2020 21:37

I would. I won’t, because I can’t afford it, but I would.

I’d hate to wear silk pyjamas.

cosycatsocks · 23/07/2020 21:55

Also man made fibres are stuffing up our oceans so if you must wear them please get a guppy bag to wash them in.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 23/07/2020 21:58

Do it! A bath or shower, clean silk pjs, and then sliding between fresh sheets - it's actually heaven. 😍

Coquohvan · 23/07/2020 22:10

When I retired my colleagues bought me LV Escale PJ set.
They are the height of luxury feel amazing on my skin. Needless to say they are very rarely worn, OH is happy when they are worn :-)

No way I would have spent that amount, I could but would never do.

MynephewR · 23/07/2020 22:25

I wear primark £3 shorts and £1.50 vests to bed so no, I wouldn't Grin pyjamas are something that I won't spend much money on (not that I could afford to spend anywhere close to £150 anyway) because I put them on just before getting into bed and take them off as soon as I get up, I sleep naked about 50% of the time anyway. I think if you wear pyjamas a lot and can easily afford them then go for it.
