To think most women keep hair long to be attractive to the opposite sex?

It's always been said men prefer long hair it looks more feminine etc.
I know many women hate having their hair short and are devastated if their hairdresser cuts of more than an inch.What is the obsession with long hair? I have fine hair and cut it short because long hair looks crap on me but I'm definitely in the minority. Even women who look better with short hair because of their hair texture insist on keeping it long. Do you think that's because we are subconsciously taught mainly by men that long hair is more attractive. Plus all teen girls have that uniform ultra long hair there is no diversity. And no I'm not jealous because I have short hair!(well very short bob to be fair.)

Men spend just as long as women in maintaining their short haircuts. I guess they just don't talk about it as much and advertising isn't geared to them as much as women.

My DP spends an inordinate amount of time trimming his hair 'just so' every few weeks and making me check if it's even etc. He used to be a long haired guy back in the day but seems to spend an equal amount of time faffing with his short hair

My husband is practically bald but needs the remaining bits trimmed every couple of weeks. I think most men with short hair go to the barbers frequently but it's cheaper and doesn't take as long.

I think men and boys with short hair have high maintenance hair styles. My dd has her hair

Anyway, dd has had her hair cut once in nearly 4 years. My sons need to go to the barbers every 6 weeks. I feel like I’m forever thinking, oh they need a cut again. I’ve started cutting it myself as the barbers can’t do mod cuts and the salons charge £20 each per visit.

Ive just never heard a man (I don’t know that many!) say ‘oh my god my hair is so high maintenance’

It’s one of the reasons Dh has grown his hair long because it is so thick and grows so fast he got sick of going to the barbers and moaning about having to go AGAIN.

I love my hair long, it frames my face better and I can do more with it, I’ve had it just above my shoulders a few time and it looked awful and there was no hiding it.
However I also can never be bothered to go to a hairdressers, so laziness is probably another reason I have long hair.

I came here to say that I don’t keep it long because my husband likes it, however he then he came down as I just finished drying and styling it and said I looked great today, and it made me feel good. So whilst it really not good enough to be a sole reason to p it long, it probably has a part to play in my decisions when I do eventually go to the hairdressers.

@BinkyBoinky, I love it! I take Biotin and have it trimmed every three months. I know it’s not magic but it seems to work for me..

I keep my hair long because it makes me feel beautiful and sensual.

@SecretWitch your hair looks lush. Does the biotin make ‘other’ hair grow quickly? I’m approaching 50 and would be worried the unwanted hair would also need plaiting!

I think long ago we scotched any idea that women dress to be attractive to men.

We dress to feel and look good for ourselves. I honestly think most men ceased to notice me once my BMI went over 30. But I would love to have long hair, it just doesn't suit me and doesn't grow long any more.

I think long hair is much lower maintenance than when I had it in a short bob for instance

I had a short pixie cut when I was 16 (95ish) I loved it I cut it short as I couldn’t manage it as it’s thick and curly. I grew it long when straighteners became better and Brazilian blow dries we’re available. It’s actually easier and cheaper to manage long as I only need 1 good cut a year. I had a lob 5 years ago but that was high maintenance. I’ll keep it long until it doesn’t look good anymore - for me

I prefer my hair short but it’s higher maintenance as I have quite tight curls, with long I can just put it up, short has to be straightened daily. I do think many man prefer longer hair though.

I have had short hair a couple of times and I just didn’t like it. I have longer hair because I like it. I don’t care whether or not a man finds it attractive, realistically as an overweight person they aren’t going to be giving my a second look anyway 😂

I've let my hair grow very long then had it cut short every year for the past 10ish years. I love the feeling of having it all chopped off. Once I even went from waist length to a graduated bob; I loved it. My hairdresser cried chopping it all off 😂

I have long hair because I’m lazy and tie it up every day. When it’s been short I have had to spend more time styling it otherwise it looks stupid
