To think most women keep hair long to be attractive to the opposite sex?

It's always been said men prefer long hair it looks more feminine etc.
I know many women hate having their hair short and are devastated if their hairdresser cuts of more than an inch.What is the obsession with long hair? I have fine hair and cut it short because long hair looks crap on me but I'm definitely in the minority. Even women who look better with short hair because of their hair texture insist on keeping it long. Do you think that's because we are subconsciously taught mainly by men that long hair is more attractive. Plus all teen girls have that uniform ultra long hair there is no diversity. And no I'm not jealous because I have short hair!(well very short bob to be fair.)

My mum always had my hair cut to just above shoulder length as a child and I hated it. I had no say over my hair till I was 16ish and I grew it long.

I genuinely look like a man with short hair. I have a long and angular face and need hair around it to help soften it.

Short hair is such hard work! Frequent cuts. Needs styling. Too high maintenance for me.

I've had my hair at all lengths, cropped, bob, medium and nearly waist length. I try to keep it around shoulder length, the longest.
Even before dh, growing it long had nothing to do with being attractive to men. I do it for me.

Have had it short and long. I prefer long because I can just whack it up in a bun/clip/pony tail but when I had it in a bob I had to style it every day and it was time consuming. Not bothered what men think. long hair is just more me than short. I had it this way as a child and early teen and have since tried every length and colour going. very long, wavy and blonde (with a bit of balayage these days!) is how I feel happiest but then I don't think my face works with short hair. I have a square jaw which looks nice contrasted and softened with long hair but would be a bit stark with say a pixie or short bob

Mines not that long, just past my shoulders. But is very curly, if I cut it short I have in the past It looks like the old lady cauliflower head do. So I keep it longer to avoid that, and to put it up for work.

I hate short hair. My mum has hers in a shirt cut and I have very fine hair like her, her hair is messy and sits flat on her head all the time. You need a bit of body to carry off short hair. It’s my hair and I don’t give a shit whether men like it as it’s on my head and I have to deal with it.

I have long hair because it’s very fine and difficult to style and I’m lazy. Wash it twice a week and either in a plait or bun, doesn’t even need brushing every day. I only get it cut every year or so. It’s a no fuss hairstyle.

There is this thing called fashion. It changes. I am old enough to have seen it change many times. So unlikely to be about some universal masculine desire.

How could you know that though if they have long hair?

I love having long hair and wear it down most of the time. I don't actually remember if my exh particularly preferred long hair or not though.
My dw used to have long hair and hated it. Her dm wouldn't let her cut it and then her exh liked it long and so did I but she only used to wear it in a ponytail so in the end she cut it very short. She looks great but it did cause grief with her dm who felt it made her look like the lesbian she is!

Long hair is more traditionally feminine and as women we are not immune to the unconscious bias towards social conformity. We think we make free choices, but we don't make them in a vacuum. Most western men have short hair and the women have long hair. It is social conformity.

Nah, mines stupidly long for two main reasons - I can fit four or five colours in it at a time, and it's excellent for fairytale self portraits which is part of what I do. And it feels nice when it swishes.

Never really thought about whether men like it or not, although one ex went on and bloody on about "unnatural" hair colour 😂 he's an ex, hair is still colourful

I have long hair because I like it long. I couldn't give a monkeys if men like it or not but given that I haven't been in a relationship with a man in over ten years I think it's safe to say that it doesn't make much difference.
