As mentioned on a previous thread I only wash my 8 year old daughters hair once a week but it’s starting to look greasy by the end of the week so I’m going to start washing it twice a week.

Lots of people think it’s gross but I really don’t. Her hair doesn’t smell it’s just starting to look a little greasy by the end of the week. My hairdresser only washed hers once a week and suggests I do the same (I can’t get away with it though!)

How often do your 8 years olds wash their hair??

I wash my 6 year old DD’s 2-3 times a week.
Sadly, I wash my own every day!

LaPoesieEstDansLaRue · 19/07/2020 20:25

DD is no longer 8 but I've never washed it more than once a week

Sunnyjac · 19/07/2020 20:26

Once a week same as my own

PaperMonster · 19/07/2020 20:26

Mine’s 9 and we used to do it twice a week (once was after our weekly swim, but obvs that’s not happening currently). Once a week now - gets to wash day and it starts to look a little greasy but not too much. We did get to about two weeks early in lockdown!!

Bluewavescrashing · 19/07/2020 20:27

2 or 3 times a week for 9yo DD.

Lucylivesinamushroomhouse · 19/07/2020 20:27

Once a week.

I try to only wash my hair once a week too.

Pascha · 19/07/2020 20:28

Probably every 2-3 days, so twice or three times a week.

DelurkingAJ · 19/07/2020 20:28

DSs but st least every other day and any day they’ve done PE or related (they’re 7 and 4). But we all have very fine hair...you’d get a different answer from my Indian friend who was recently telling me she has to oil her hair and can only wash it weekly.

Gillian1980 · 19/07/2020 20:29

I wash DD hair twice a week. Once a week would be fine in terms of it looking ok but she’s a mucky pup and ends up getting food in it!

GenevaMaybe · 19/07/2020 20:29

DD 2.5 once a week but more often if she has mashed food or paint into it Hmm

DD almost 6 twice a week on average

JudasHisCarrot · 19/07/2020 20:29

Twice a week for dds (6 & 4)

Sunnydayshereatlast · 19/07/2020 20:30

Twice a week for ds 5. 11 and overs manage whenever they want to. Prompt about 3 times a week the 11 yo!!

Mmsnet101 · 19/07/2020 20:30

I think it depends on your hair type. I have thick curly hair so twice a week as an adult but once a week as a child.

Thin fine hair will need done more regularly but anyone washing once a day is just doing damage.

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 19/07/2020 20:31

Mine is 5 and I do his about once a week

DobbyTheHouseElk · 19/07/2020 20:32

Once a week for DD 8. But I would like twice as it does get greasy now. However it’s a battle for once a week......

Rystall · 19/07/2020 20:32

Honestly in the heat, shower and hair wash every evening. During the winter, still probably 5 times a week due to various sports etc.

sqirrelfriends · 19/07/2020 20:33

Ds2 is every day Blush

EsmereldaMargaretNoteSpelling · 19/07/2020 20:33

Being a stinky 14yo boy, ds1 does it every morning, and frankly could do with showering again at bedtime. 12yo ds2 showers every morning too which is fine for now.

unicornparty · 19/07/2020 20:35

My ds is 10 and does every other day. Does your dd not run around? My ds' hair is wet with sweat after running around outside so have to wash it, plus it's got sun cream in it.

Gurtcha · 19/07/2020 20:38

As PP said it’s going to depend on hair type. Here it is once a week for the curly one and twice for the poker straight fine haired ones.

HowLongCanICallitBabyWeight · 19/07/2020 20:40

Every night, he has a thick curly mop and he's a toddler though, so there are often beans/smears of yoghurt etc in it. We use the child's farm shampoo and conditioner to deal with his curls and he had his first haircut recently and the hairdresser commented on how strong and soft his hair was for such a young child, so it's obviously not damaging it. He gets it from both DH and I who would both essentially be yetis in our natural ungroomed states.

Mangomumma · 19/07/2020 20:41

Once a week for my 2 young DDs, on swimming day (pre-covid). They have long thick hair so it takes ages to wash & condition it properly. Their hair doesn't get greasy so lucky in that respect. I can sometimes get away with once a week for myself with some dry shampoo thrown in, but usually twice.

raspberryk · 19/07/2020 20:42

Every other day or so, kids came back from dad's tonight after having no shower since Thursday night and both of their hairs look an absolute state. Going a week would look disgusting on my 2.

HipHopBanzai · 19/07/2020 20:42

Once a week. They both have very thick long hair and it never looks greasy.

firstimemamma · 19/07/2020 20:43

Mine is nearly 2 and it's once a week here too.
