How often do you wash your child’s hair??

As mentioned on a previous thread I only wash my 8 year old daughters hair once a week but it’s starting to look greasy by the end of the week so I’m going to start washing it twice a week.

Lots of people think it’s gross but I really don’t. Her hair doesn’t smell it’s just starting to look a little greasy by the end of the week. My hairdresser only washed hers once a week and suggests I do the same (I can’t get away with it though!)

How often do your 8 years olds wash their hair??

I used to wash their hair every day in the bath. Around about age 8 they started washing their own hair, with swimming goggles Grin (they started preferring showers mostly). The youngest is 10 and he now washes his hair every 2-3 days as he's usually in a rush to get out.

TimeWastingButFun · 19/07/2020 22:20

Both boys though so no long hair to think about!

user1471481356 · 19/07/2020 22:21

I think I’ve washed my almost 3 year olds hair maybe twice in his life

octobersky19 · 19/07/2020 22:22

Mines 9 months and I do it every day! He has so much hair and he's always smushing food and milk into it 😂

Mummyshark2018 · 19/07/2020 22:39

My dd8 washes her own hair 3 times per week. It would be more but she spends a lot of time in hot tub and it's pointless washing everyday imo.

LilaButterfly · 19/07/2020 23:18

Once a week in winter. When its warm we go swimming every day, then i wash it afterwards, but only with water. We swim in my parents pool though and they dont use chlorine.

Sh05 · 19/07/2020 23:38

Once a week for my 4 yr old, my teenage daughter has only just started washing hers twice a week in the last yr as it's really long.
We are Indian and our hair is really dry so we oil, wash and then oil again before drying our hair and this is the only way it is manageable otherwise it's a wiry mess.

TooGood2BeTrue · 19/07/2020 23:48

1-2 times per week for DC1 (9 years) and hardly ever for DC2 (6 years) because it's always shiny and doesn't smell. Not looking forward to hormones kicking in...!

WinWinnieTheWay · 19/07/2020 23:49

DD5 has a shampoo once a week, although it is soaked in the bath every time she gets in. She likes it swishing around in the water "like a mermaid".

2Kidsinatrenchcoat · 19/07/2020 23:54

1-3 times a week depending on how grubby they are. More if needed. 8yo with thick unruly hair and almost 3yo with fine straight hair.

They bathe every night unless we’re too busy and bedtime gets rushed but don’t wash their hair every time they’re in the bath.

I only wash my hair 1-3 times a week too though otherwise it dries my hair out too much.

Once a week for my two - both junior school age

IdblowJonSnow · 20/07/2020 00:11

Younger one twice a week. Older one needs to do hers every other day now or it whiffs a bit!

angelikacpickles · 20/07/2020 00:26

Twice a week - kids are 9 and 6.

Slinkymalinky1 · 20/07/2020 00:53

Used to wash twice a week once after swimming and one other night. Obviously showers without hair wash in between. However she is now 11 and it's starting to look greasy, so upped to every other day. Even though think it possibly needs every day, bloody hormones 🙄

RoLaren · 22/07/2020 09:20

This was 6 months into a hair washing refusal spell (non-NT) Soft, shiny and smelled fresh. I'd heard that unwashed hair regulates itself after a while, and it's true.

EmpressSuiko · 22/07/2020 09:51

At home between 2-4 times a week.
When in school it’s every other day.

Youngest dc hair is lovely and soft, only needs washing 2/3 times a week (depending on how messy they get).

Eldest is 9 and hair is starting to get greasy so needs washing 3-4 times a week.

Runssometimes · 22/07/2020 10:01

Same. I have never washed my 8 year old’s hair. Rinsed well in the shower but never used shampoo or any detergent in it. It’s always shiny and healthy. He’s never had head lice either so not sure if that’s just coincidence.

Spinakker · 22/07/2020 10:25

For me every third day, for my 5 and 7 yo boys every other day and for my 1 year old every day!

Spinakker · 22/07/2020 10:26

For me it's not just the look of their hair that matters it's the smell. Kids who's hair is only washed once or twice a week must be smelly surely?

SallyWD · 22/07/2020 10:27

Once a week. Looks and smells fine.

concernedforthefuture · 22/07/2020 10:27

DC are 8 and 10. They wash their hair once or twice a week, depending on time of year (sweaty head in summer), whether they've been swimming etc.

Dulra · 22/07/2020 10:33

I have 3 girls 7, 11, 13. they wash their hairs once a week, all smells fine, none are oily the less you wash the better for your hair the more you wash it the more oily it gets.

I used to wash my hair daily felt it used to be so oily. Decided to try and stretch that to every second day, for a while it looked quite oily before it needed a wash but was eventually fine, then stretched it to every third day again was a bit oily initially but now fine thinking of stretching it to every 4th day now. I have found since washing my hair less, it is thicker, less oily and healthier looking so i am encouraging my kids to keep to once a week as long as they can.

gincakecomps · 22/07/2020 10:36

Every other day (6YO), just do same as I do with my own

Yesterdayforgotten · 22/07/2020 10:37

Every other day or it would be greasy but he runs around and gets hot esp in summer.

Yesterdayforgotten · 22/07/2020 10:37

And same with my own
