As mentioned on a previous thread I only wash my 8 year old daughters hair once a week but it’s starting to look greasy by the end of the week so I’m going to start washing it twice a week.

Lots of people think it’s gross but I really don’t. Her hair doesn’t smell it’s just starting to look a little greasy by the end of the week. My hairdresser only washed hers once a week and suggests I do the same (I can’t get away with it though!)

How often do your 8 years olds wash their hair??

Twice a week.

lukasiak · 19/07/2020 21:30

Two times a week. Same as I wash my own. Washing it constantly isn't good for it.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/07/2020 21:32

Twice a week for DS.

transformandriseup · 19/07/2020 21:33

Twice a week

audweb · 19/07/2020 21:35

Once a week at the most. Depends on if I can face wash day. We both have very curly hair, so it doesn’t need washed very often, and it doesn’t smell. It’s no good washing it more often than that, and sometimes I can push it to two weeks.

gerbilgirl · 19/07/2020 21:37

Once a week here!

Both kids (6 & 9) have hair wash each Sunday with baths. It used to be three times a week a couple of years ago but my stress levels couldn't take it so we dropped it to twice and now once a week.

Everyone is happy - baths are fun again rather than a chore and their hair looks better.

Mine is only 2 with short, wavy, fairly fine hair. Once a week is the norm which was after swimming pre-Covid. But she will sometimes have more washes than this if her hair is visibly dirty with e.g. food, paint, suncream or sweat. So usually more washing in summer months. She goes to nursery three days a week and when it's very sunny she comes home each day with horrible hair as they always get sp much suncream in it! So she will get it washed each of the next few mornings which I don't like to do but is necessary when it's like that hah.

Ewww once a week is gross! We do every other day for DD because she doesn't yet do sport. DS every day when he showers.

Quornflakegirl · 19/07/2020 21:44

My girls are 8 in September and I help one wash her hair once a week. The other does it herself twice a week, she blow dries it herself too, I feel like I have been released from a tedious chore Grin

Enchantmentz · 19/07/2020 21:46

About once a week until these days it could probably use 2 days a week, dd is now 10 so her hair is getting a bit greasier now by the end of the week since the wash. I tried washing my hair once a week and when lockdown started I didn't use shampoo for a few weeks. Now wash my hair every 3-4days. Not going anywhere much so no big deal if it is looking a bit shiny, I usually wear a bandana and hair up so it can't be seen anyway. Since reducing hair washing I can go two days of having nice hair instead of by the end of day 1 having greasy looking hair like it used to.

eatsleepcookrepeat · 19/07/2020 21:46

I think it depends on hair and age really.

DD1 who is 3.8 has long curly hair down to her bum. We wash it once a week and it's up pretty much all of the time unless a special occasion.

DD2 is 1 with curly hair but it's still not even bob length and it has to be washed 3 times a week because she's obviously more mucky!

BarbarAnna · 19/07/2020 21:46

My kids are 7 and 10 and have been washing their own hair for ages. Didn’t realise other parents washed their kids hair at that age? Whoops!

BereftOfInk · 19/07/2020 21:47

DD is 8. I haven't washed her hair for over a year! Sometimes she needs help to rinse though. She washes it every night in summer (try to minimise pollen in the beds/house so the DC go in the shower as soon as they come in). In winter she washes it everyday out of habit. She does sport 5 days a week so needs to wash it after. I do tell her to leave it the other days but usually she doesn't listen.

Shmithecat2 · 19/07/2020 21:50

Every time he has a bath, which is usually 6/7 nights a week.

Sailingblue · 19/07/2020 21:51

1 and 4 every day especially in the summer. The little one is fairly disgusting so needs a good wash every evening. The 4 year old can get away with every other day but she’s often muddy, suncreamy etc so it’s at least 6/7 with the odd skipped evening. I can’t imagine going a full week for either of them.

Millie2013 · 19/07/2020 21:54

2/3 times a week ordinarily (DD is 7) but recently she’s been swimming most days, so she has a v quick shower before bed and we give her hair a v quick wash

happytoday73 · 19/07/2020 21:58

Once a week from about aged 5-10....then started needing more. Obviously if got muddy etc would do more frequently but that worked well for them

SeenYourArse · 19/07/2020 22:01

Baby DS is 11 months and older DS is 4, both have theirs washed every other night in the bath. However on none bath nights if older DS has been sweaty or grubby playing outdoors or worn sun cream he gets a shower and his hair washed then too so in hot weather his is fine most days. Both boys have shiny, blonde wavy hair.

Florencenotflo · 19/07/2020 22:02

Dd1 is 4.5 and I have to wash it every day. She is such a scruff 😂 I can brush and plait her hair and within 5 mins it is all over her face. She gets quite hot and sticky at the moment because it's warm and she doesn't sit still! She's always running, jumping and playing. She also manages to get every meal in her hair despite me clipping it all back.

By the end of the day the only way to sort it out is to wash it. I'm hoping I can stop washing it so much as she gets a bit older and stops getting food in it so much 🙄

phonicswithsonic · 19/07/2020 22:07

Oh dear, we're clearly outliers. We don't wash it here (preschool age). I mean it gets a rinse with water, but we just don't bother with shampoo. DC have always hated it, baths became a massive battle. So we just stopped. Hair was greasy for a few months, and then not anymore, it's soft and looks nice. I'm guessing by the time DC are 8 things will be a bit different though!

SepticTankYank · 19/07/2020 22:09

DD is also 8. Once a week too but sometimes it'll look bad a day or two before.

For comparison I wash mine daily so it's not because I'm an eco warrior or don't think people should wash their hair much. It's simply because hers doesn't need washing.

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 19/07/2020 22:16

Twice a week for ds as its v short.

Mummadeeze · 19/07/2020 22:19

Sundays and Wednesdays usually. Gets a bit smelly otherwise.

Boringnamechanging · 19/07/2020 22:19

Every 5-7 days unless food/paint/mud requires it to be more often. They're 3 and 18 months.
