How often do you wash your child’s hair??

As mentioned on a previous thread I only wash my 8 year old daughters hair once a week but it’s starting to look greasy by the end of the week so I’m going to start washing it twice a week.

Lots of people think it’s gross but I really don’t. Her hair doesn’t smell it’s just starting to look a little greasy by the end of the week. My hairdresser only washed hers once a week and suggests I do the same (I can’t get away with it though!)

How often do your 8 years olds wash their hair??

I wash my sons every sunday, if hes at school I put it in a rumal on Sunday night and it stays there until the weekend, if he isn’t at school he wears it down.

lufcaregoingup · 19/07/2020 20:43

Every other day.

FlyingPandas · 19/07/2020 20:44

Dc 10 and 7 once a week. 16yo I have no idea, he comes out of a daily shower with wet hair but no idea whether he washes it or not Grin It always looks clean so I just leave him to it.

I’ve washed mine every day for the last 35 years and tbh have no intention of changing that routine. I would feel utterly minging if I didn’t shower and wash my hair every morning.

But it does depend on hair type - mine is quite fine - friends with thick curly hair manage with washes less often.

OP if your DD’s hair is starting to look greasy towards the end of the week then I would up the hair washes to twice a week. Having lank greasy hair feels horrible and I think is not great for your mental health either.

My ds is only turning 4, I wash it a couple of times a week. I would wash it more but he had terrible eczema behind his ears and I don't like to aggravate it with shampoo if possible. It's short anyway, I brush it everyday.

SpeedofaSloth · 19/07/2020 20:44

DD(7): every 2 or 3 days
DS(11): every day.
DH and I wash ours every day, DD has much drier skin and hair than we do.

Every 3 days. Any longer and I can really tell the difference, it does start to look a bit greasy and doesn’t smell to fresh.

northstars · 19/07/2020 20:45

Once a week for mine too.

bankofpennies · 19/07/2020 20:45

6 year old dd twice a week, 3 year old ds every night as it’s cut short and air dries in 5 minutes.
I do my own hair once a week. It’s very thick and frizzy so starts getting greasy after around 6 days.

Dungaree2 · 19/07/2020 20:46

I used to be a primary school teacher. As the week went on, the classroom would get smellier, especially after break time and lunch, with the smell of unwashed children. And when I heard them read, it was obvious who needed a bath/hairwash!

passthemustard · 19/07/2020 20:48

I have a DD8 too and I only do it once a week. Mainly because it's such a faff. She hates getting water on her face and although she's grown out of the screaming it's still a headache. I can only cope with that once a week 😂

Jumblebumblemess · 19/07/2020 20:48

My DD 3.5 is every day as she gets absolutely filthy!

hippoherostandinghere · 19/07/2020 20:50

I wash DD(9) twice a week but tbh we could get away with once a week. She has thin, blonde hair but it just doesn't get greasy. I normal french plait it straight from wet and it will stay like that the next day then the waves give it a bit more volume. She doesn't sweat though. No matter how much sport or running around she does she just doesn't get sweaty.

Twins almost 4 years old (B/G) I wash their hair once a week, or as needed if they’ve been messing about in the sand/dirt/rubbed food in it 🙄

Tinamou · 19/07/2020 20:52

Once a week.

rainbowscalling · 19/07/2020 20:53

It varies. I try for every 5 days for DD 3.5 but she has a habit of getting food in it! For nursery I have started putting it in 2 French plaits to keep it out of her face and safe from the food. I have, on occasion, just washed the ends if she comes home having dipped it in something and I only washed it that morning, otherwise I'd have weeks where i washed it everyday.

ThroughThoroughThoughTough · 19/07/2020 20:53

9yo dd washes her own hair once a week. She doesn’t sweat, it doesn’t get greasy or smell but I still insist on principle. It’s very fine, flyaway hair, in a pixie cut.

Every other day, unless it's dirty or it's been really hot then every day.

chubbyhotchoc · 19/07/2020 21:02

Once a week dd6. Shower every night. But don't get her hair wet. I wash mine everyday though. Hers just never gets greasy.

Puffinhead · 19/07/2020 21:03

Once a week here too unless DD9 has had swimming etc. My older DD now go twice a week as it starts to look greasy otherwise but when they were younger once a week was fine.

xxKatie9806xx · 19/07/2020 21:04

Once a week too

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 19/07/2020 21:05

Once a week , unless it is ridiculously hot which means i put sun cream on her head as well.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 19/07/2020 21:07

I wash 8 year old dd's hair twice a week usually- once after swimming lessons and once at the weekend although since no swimming is more like once every 5 or 6 days or when l can't get the brush through it any more!
