Has anyone else had one?
I have been going to the same hairdresser for years. I never need a restyle as she just trims and reshapes each time -it’s always been lovely!
I haven’t been since the end of Feb as my next appointment (1st week of lockdown) was cancelled.
The style had grown out and I needed a good couple of inches taken off. We discussed the cut and she said that she’d been doing it so long she knew what I liked.

I think my hairdresser has forgotten how to cut hair.

I have uneven layers that look like long and short clumps and the ‘style’ is not only completely different to my usual cut but would also be unflattering on anyone.

AIBU to be really annoyed? So much hair has been taken off and all I can do is grow it out. Has everyone else had beautiful cuts? Tell me I’m not alone.

Ok so not the full head but I’ve just gathered the front section together! It’s usually blended perfectly - delicate layers.❤️
Looks like someone has been at it with the kitchen scissors! 😂😂😂

I went for a haircut and colour today. I'm delighted with it. However, we took my son to the barber on Monday and it was like he was drunk (he wasn't) it has bits of long hair all over it and it just isn't up to his usual standard. We think he panicked about the queue (no surprise given how long they have been shut).
Still its better than the friar tuck I gave the poor boy. The clippers broke a third of the way into my efforts Grin

Four of us have had haircuts with differing results.

Had mine cut, I'm really pleased, it was just a good trim but she did a great job.

Dh and ds1 went to the barbers, ds1 had an amazing haircut, looks brilliant, dh had a different barber and it's fine but not quite as good as it used to be but having said that I'd had to cut everyone's hair so barbers were 'correcting' what I'd done. He said all hygiene standards were good.

Took ds2 to a different place. Haircut was fine but it was all very rushed, they were stressed and I wasn't too impressed with the hygiene. They were wearing gloves but not changing the gloves between cleaning/clients.

The lady that cut my hair said it's difficult in the visors and it's gives her a headache.

Nanny0gg · 18/07/2020 17:00

Problem with the stylists that won't blow dry your hair - they have no way of properly checking the cut as hair is very different when it's dried.

Luckily I've had the full works (cut and colour) and I'm really pleased. As it always was but a bit longer as I'd got used to that.

Straycatstrut · 18/07/2020 17:00

Oh my god. Got mine booked in for tomorrow at 12, cross your fingers for me! This is only because I've started going grey over lockdown due to stress! To be honest I only want a trim as I want to grow it as long as I can. It's stopped growing and I think it's because of all the split ends and... stress.... I just want them off... no layers, no fringe, just a trim!....

Go back. That's dreadful
Hercwasonaroll · 18/07/2020 17:01

That's shocking!!

OP I'd cry if she did this to me. I have enough trouble with social anxiety as it is. That looks like someone did it blindfolded.
WhattheHhashappened · 18/07/2020 17:04

Nanny
I know!! Blush It’s like that all over! Grin Shock Hmm

Mine was a wet cut and blow dry.

I'm not very happy with mine. It had grown out of my short curly style without really losing shape, but was just getting too bushy.

I wanted to keep most of the length but reduce the bushiness and it's now too short at the front, with a bit of a fringe at the sides that I don't like - I haven't had a fringe for years.

I've had the same hairdresser for over a decade - I think he was rusty, even after a week of practise!

FourDecades · 18/07/2020 17:05

My mum is a hairdresser and retired many year's ago. Being a single parent we formed a "bubble" and l got about 4 inches cut off.

Mum hasn't cut my hair...or anyone's....in year's and did a perfect job.

However.... no PPE was worn and no distractions/worry about infection.... which may have caused the bad cuts??

WhattheHhashappened · 18/07/2020 17:08

stray
I would usually! Doesn’t usually take much for me to cry over my hair... It’s been a bit of an ordeal this lockdown so I guess this isn’t high up on my worry list really.
Just having a moan on here is enough at the moment! Grin

Phone them OP, that is definitely not right!

I had mine done last weekend and I’m really happy with it- my hairdresser did say “does this normally have layers in it?” Though, which makes me think it was in a real state 😂😂

DS had his done this week- it’s a good cut but the barber didn’t listen to him or DH at all. It’s the exact opposite of what they asked for.

ilovesooty · 18/07/2020 17:12

I can see how it happened now. If you've been going there for years could you go back and get it put right?

I was lucky. My very long standing hairdresser has done a great job considering she had to repair the damage I'd done cutting my own hair.

OscarWildesCat · 18/07/2020 17:13

I’ve had the opposite experience, in that, my usual hairdresser of over ten years decided to finish mat leave and offered to do mine at home, She’s been off for a year and my hair has never been the same without her so I’m delighted with my new cut, I have a short pixie cut which is bleached and toned and nobody but her seems to get it how I like it.
Sorry you had a crap experience OP but at least you can laugh about it, maybe go somewhere else?

ByTheNine · 18/07/2020 17:16

I'm a bit disappointed with mine - got a great big foil line at the front where I had my highlights done. As it grows out/gets a bit of sun it'll probably get less obvious but at the moment it's all I can bloody see every time I look in the mirror.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 18/07/2020 17:20

@amijustparanoidorjuststoned

This is an interesting thread!

Can I ask - Are many hairdressers not offering blow dries?! I've always thought wet cuts were quite outdated because you need to be able to see the shape of the cut AFTER the hair has been dried!

I have also wondered if PPE has a direct effect on the quality. Sorry some of you have had bad experiences. Have a Wine on me!

Mine was doing blow drys but I don't have one. I refuse to go to a salon that insists on a blow dry!
cologne4711 · 18/07/2020 17:24

My hairdresser isn't doing blow dries but I was a bit surprised they weren't using the hairdryer at all; as pp's said, they need to check the cut really. But mine was ok and I was there on day one.

I am quite glad I don't have a highlights appointment until the end of the month though - at least they'll have had a few weeks back by the time I go.

I suspect a lot of them are very tired, they are working long hours to catch up on all the haircuts and treatments people have missed.

Alsohuman · 18/07/2020 17:27

I had mine cut on Monday and, while I’m really pleased with it, it’s not up to the usual standard. I think it’s a combination of being out of practice and having to manoeuvre round the mask. I probably won’t go back until it can be cut without wearing a mask now.

BeneathTheMilkyTwilight · 18/07/2020 17:27

Mine was also not right, neither the cut or colour, but I plucked up courage and went back to get it fixed. It's not perfect now but it's a lot better than how it looked at the end of lockdown!

Unfollowtherules · 18/07/2020 17:29

Oh dear op that is bad.

I just drove past my hairdressers to see if they were open and the staff were wearing visors. I did wonder if they would be hampered by the protective equipment. Also my hairdresser would even up any stray ends after drying and straightening so if they are not blow drying (some are/some aren’t) then that could be a problem.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 18/07/2020 17:30

Similar issue here, the colour is great but the cut isn’t bang on whereas previously it has been. Thankfully it’s passable but I’m not thrilled with it which is a real shame as I was so looking forward to getting back in the chair.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 18/07/2020 17:32

That small section pictured looks terrible, @WhattheHhashappened!

OldWomanSaysThis · 18/07/2020 17:33

Mine was not quite the same either. I had to sit with the color under heat to make it cook faster when I normally don't (because she has another customer while I am cooking, but now not allowed to "stack" clients). The 10 minute toner/conditioner was rinsed out immediately - no sitting in the shampoo area. She cut off more than usual, although it looks great, it's just shorter than normal.

Since then she called and said she's retiring. Only half her clients came back and she's older and found it all very stressful.
