Post lockdown hair cut disaster

Has anyone else had one?
I have been going to the same hairdresser for years. I never need a restyle as she just trims and reshapes each time -it’s always been lovely!
I haven’t been since the end of Feb as my next appointment (1st week of lockdown) was cancelled.
The style had grown out and I needed a good couple of inches taken off. We discussed the cut and she said that she’d been doing it so long she knew what I liked.

I think my hairdresser has forgotten how to cut hair.

I have uneven layers that look like long and short clumps and the ‘style’ is not only completely different to my usual cut but would also be unflattering on anyone.

AIBU to be really annoyed? So much hair has been taken off and all I can do is grow it out. Has everyone else had beautiful cuts? Tell me I’m not alone.

This is for you OP, and all other hair victims....

I think you might be onto something @WhattheHhashappened re 'the time travel effect' Grin

WhattheHhashappened · 18/07/2020 21:53

Pikachu I love fleabag!!
I wish I could show you my ‘reference’ and what I got! I KNOW you would think WTF happened!!!
I’ve had to delete the picture off my phone as it’s too painful a reminder of what could have been! Grin

I wonder the grump... if we were to show our hairdressers ‘the Rachel’ picture posted above and ask for choppy, random, high up layers we MIGHT actually get our old lovely hairstyles back?
A bit of reverse psychology in these testing times?

I'm very sorry for your hair disaster OP, hoping that my cut and colour goes okay tomorrow.

On the upside "Post lockdown hair cut disaster" sounds like the best song that The Fall never recorded Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/07/2020 22:10

I'm so worried about my appointment now. Though I'm not sure I can wait and I'm so tempted to hack at it myself.

maddiemookins16mum · 18/07/2020 22:11

Getting mine done on Wednesday, going extra short in preparation for the next localised lock down. It’s been 6.5 months since my last haircut.

TheGrump · 18/07/2020 22:14

@WhattheHhashappened - definitely worth a try. Might reverse the funny mirrors effect Grin

Ok experience here but not as good as usual as she usually blow drys and then goes over layers or shaping when dry.

Talia99 · 18/07/2020 22:46

I went Friday. I have straight hair with no layers and she took it back up to just below collar bone length (about an inch and a half).

She blow dried and I’m not sure it would be as good without as she snipped at it quite a bit when dry.

I’m very pleased with the cut although I was a bit confused about the visor. It was open at the bottom (as visors are) and she was standing over me so while my mask protected her, there was no protection for me since there was no barrier between her and the top of my head.

I was in and out in less than 30 minutes.

Sudename · 18/07/2020 22:46

My friend and hair dresser made a balls of dds hair today! She has shoulder length thick hair with a kink in it. She talked her into cutting it up and before dd knew it took about 5 inches off the length. It's like a bob now and with the natural curl has shrunk more. Shes devastated, cant tie it up or anything! I'm angry for dd and I'll be having words with her!

bobkate · 18/07/2020 23:34

Oh gawd I was already worrying about my cut next week...now even more so!
Those of you who have already had yours cut...how did it work with the mask? Is it even possible for them to wash your hair while you are wearing one...how can they comb it straight over your ears without it pinging and catching on the ear loops? Mine is in desperate need for a cut but I am dreading it Sad

Blackcurrant66 · 18/07/2020 23:45

My hairdresser cut my hair quite differently to usual and yes, you’ve guessed it - I’ve got layers!

My hairdresser is very young too but maybe they’ve all been binging on Friends boxsets in lockdown

The washing was fine because you’re basically almost flat on your back with your hair behind you. The tricky bit was cutting the sides and he kept asking me to remove the ear loop on the side he was cutting. The whole thing was a bit of a farce and I can’t see this lasting long, in all honesty.
bobkate · 19/07/2020 00:15

alsohuman thanks...don't your ear loops get all wet and soggy when your hair is washed though?
I am probably massively over thinking this whole thing, but I hate the whole hairdresser experience at the best of times Sad

WhattheHhashappened · 19/07/2020 00:17

bobkate
I wore a blue disposable mask. The loops didn’t get in the way at all. Or get wet.
The mask itself didn’t get in the way either!

Probably they do but you don’t notice it because your head’s wet anyway and they dry pretty quickly - or at least mine did. It’ll be fine. It’s soooo worth it to look like yourself again.

bobkate · 19/07/2020 01:38

Thanks both, that is reassuring. Hopefully it'll be okay Grin

Ffsseriously · 19/07/2020 02:09

My hairdresser keeps posting pics of cuts and colours only one looks better in the after picture, its not encouraging me to go back Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2020 11:14

I was given the choice of a wet cut or with a blow dry. I chose wet cut. I'm regretting that I think.

I've also seen photos of a friends hair post haircut and I am so glad that I don't use their hairdresser anymore!

DD and DH have decided that I'm their hairdresser now. I'm not sure how I feel about that as DH can't see what a crap job I've done with his. Maybe I'll get better with practice.

LunaNorth · 19/07/2020 11:18

I’ve had to snip off a couple of long bits which my usually great hairdresser has missed.

I’m cutting her some slack though - I wouldn’t fancy cutting hair in a visor.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 19/07/2020 11:24

Mine was a bit disappointing. Normally I have balyage underneath but she's done highlights that just look like highlights giving me a dip dye appearance that I'm not overly keen on. My cut wasn't as good as usual either. Hoping for better next time.

LadyofTheManners · 19/07/2020 11:26

I wonder if they're rushing the cuts though? Every hairdresser I've seen on TV has said about huge backlogs and trying to fit as many customers in as possible. Looks like in some cases that's at the detriment of decent cuts.

I'm lucky though,DP does my hair for me. The perks of growing up in a household with sisters all of whom were hairdressers.

Rowgtfc72 · 19/07/2020 11:29

My hair is short. Hairdresser cut it, got chatting and now it's just over an inch long. Dh calls it boy hair. Fortunately I'm very happy with it but can imagine someone else would be horrified.

No, they are actually spacing appointments out and each one is given a longer slot.
