ViciousJackdaw · 16/07/2020 22:47

Is alot quite a high calorie food then?

Iggly · 16/07/2020 22:48

People who say that are just bullshitting tbh.

I used to be like that but the reality was I didn’t eat much and did eat more exercise. I just ate mostly crap

BilboBercow · 16/07/2020 22:50

Some people do genuinely eat loads of crap and don't put on much. I definitely fell into that category until I hit 32

IwishIhadaMargarita · 16/07/2020 22:52

I used to eat loads and most of it was junk. I stayed a size 8-10 till my mid 20’s with no effort. Now I’m fat, I wasn’t being smug just factual.

Fatted · 16/07/2020 22:54

When people say this to me, they're definition of 'a lot' is actually my 'not a lot at all'.

OwlinaTree · 16/07/2020 22:55

It depends how you define a lot really. I think I eat quite a lot. But others might think I eat a tiny amount. Others might think I'm eating too much. Very slim people are probably not eating my idea of a lot on the whole! Grin

Russellbrandshair · 16/07/2020 22:55

I always laugh at it because no one gets away with it forever. I used to know a couple of people who bragged about this when younger- both now late 30s and both overweight and paunchy. In their 20s- early 30s they got away with it, now they can’t and it’s come as a huge shock to both of them. At least I am used to watching what I eat from an early age.

BackforGood · 16/07/2020 22:56

Doh. I pressed the wrong one,so have thrown the vote. (Can I 'undo' my vote ?)
I don't think they are being smug. Ususally just genuinely puzzled by it.

I used to be able to eat what I want before I got to the menopause.

Ditto. I ate like a horse on steroids and drank like a sailor on shore leave. Dad was a beanpole and I assumed I took after him.
2toe · 16/07/2020 22:59

You’re being unfair, some people are just skinny no matter what they eat. People often comment on how much my DH eats and he is very slim, I can’t fathom how he can consume what he does never mind stay skinny, especially at his age.
What I do find interesting is people would find it really rude to comment on his consumption if he was overweight but as he’s very slim it’s fair game 🤷‍♀️

Oh dear another MN thread about weight and who can eat the most without putting on weight !! Well until I was 45 ish I could do the same so just enjoy stuffing your face until the weight starts to creep up !

maddening · 16/07/2020 23:09

There are people that cannot accept that there are those lucky bastards who can eat lots and exercise little and not put on weight, they infer that these are just naturally virtuous as it goes against their narrative that anyone overweight is due to greed and laziness.

Personally think that there is a spectrum of this from naturally slim to those who struggle to even maintain without a lot of hard work etc and that outside of eating habits and factors that impact those (eg mh, sociological, environmental)
there are chemical, hormonal, genetic and physiological factors that come in to play in varying degrees for each individual.

At least it is truthful Imo.

OwlinaTree · 16/07/2020 23:12

maddening I think there is truth in that, I don't think absolutely everybody metabolises (sp) in the same way.

I don't think there are many people who genuinely and consistently are eating my idea of a lot daily and are very slim. I would imagine the majority don't consistently eat a lot, or if they do they are burning a high amount of calories at the same time.

thecatneuterer · 16/07/2020 23:15

It's said because if you are slim you constantly get comments about how you must starve yourself, or only eat lettuce leaves and other such nonsense. It gets tiresome. I doubt many people just come out with that sort of comment apropos of nothing - it will be in response to those sorts of jibes.

AvoidingRealHumans · 16/07/2020 23:15

I used to be like that, only mentioned it when people said how slim I was though.

I am now 30 and it isn't true anymore sadly, about to embark on my 1st diet.

Passmethecrisps · 16/07/2020 23:18

Hmm. I have been overweight and very thin and am not overweight again. There has been a 20 year time span in there - so not really yoyo dieting.

I got thin by diet and exercise. I stayed thin I think because I was fidgety and moved more without thinking about it. As a thin person I was filled with a slightly nervous energy. I ate ALMOST what I do now but not exactly. Not I am over forty, I have two small children, I am TIRED and I eat more shit. I eat things I wouldn’t dream of eating when I was thin. And also move less as it is more effort and the heavier I get the more effort it is and over and over again.

It’s not really smuggery. It’s just fact I think that sometimes thin people just feel like they are just thin. You would only know otherwise if you had done both sides

ToBBQorNotToBBQ · 16/07/2020 23:21

Jealous much OP

Yeahnahmum · 16/07/2020 23:22

So people can say "I gain weight by even just looking at food.

But not the other way around.
That sound a bit unfair. Is it because you are jealous?

elliejjtiny · 16/07/2020 23:22

Some people are just really lucky and can eat loads of rubbish and stay thin. My Grandad was like that but he also exercised loads. Some people think they eat a lot but then they mention that they feel full after eating half a biscuit. Some people say that they can eat whatever they want and stay thin and then it turns out they don't like chocolate and their favourite food is cucumber.
