And for an extortionate amount?! Who is buying these?
I've just seen one listing that they can post in UK for £3.70 first class.
Surely if you were even going to buy one of these 'gifts' you'd get one locally easy enough, and not have to pay the 'UK postage'Hmm seeing as they all look the same anyway

@HarrietsweetHarriet

Not during lockdown, but I have in the past year ordered gifts twice from Gower Cottage Brownies, a lovely box of big, fat, gooey, homemade brownies with good choice of flavours. Nicer than any I have tried to make. Can't remember exactly how much but around £20/25 ish including postage. The recipients raved about them so they must have been good.
I LOVE Gower Cottage brownies. But they're a business

This thread is repulsive. That picture of the bits of meat with random dairylea triangles, unwrapped sweaty cheddar and crackers will haunt forever.

All the people on that thread wanting to know how to be thin should come and look at some of these appetite removing photos.

I'm scouring my fb but can't seem to find any pizza box platters to spend my money on Angry

sunshineandrainbowz · 17/07/2020 19:58

I can see how they were tempting at the start of lockdown and we could only go out for essentials but when you think about hygiene it does feel a bit bleh.

I opted for ordering 'gourmet' chocolate bars from a legit business I found on instagram Grin

@Mir230

It's the afternoon tea boxes I don't get. They always look so...sad. The whole thing about afternoon tea for me is the nicely presented stand and the nice person pouring my tea for me. The boxes are just a card box with some sandwiches and those individual packets of jam you get in the work canteen etc.
Yeah I ordered one for myself mid lockdown (beginning of May) and was looking forward to a treat. It was from a proper caterer and all home made. But at the end of the day I was just eating scones and sandwiches on an ikea plate in my kitchen, with the kids and husband watching TV in the next room and it made me want to cry. I mean, the cake was nice and stuff but it wasnt really an afternoon tea.... but it cost the same as one. Next time I'll just make some scones.

OMG! This has to be the funniest one yet. I can’t cope, I hate feet! 🤢

Anyone know why these things are always priced in thousands? £12,345 etc? Is it autocorrect or a case of mass misuse of maths? I see it all the time. Coffee table £60,000

Kitty24 · 18/07/2020 16:28

I thought the same!!! Complete rip offs along with the cupcakes, cakes, hampers etc... they must seriously think people are stupid! Wink

NickMyLipple · 18/07/2020 16:31

Oh I saw an advert for a 'Movie Night Box'

2x cans of drink
1x mini tub of pringles
1 x small bag of popcorn
2 x chocolate bars

£20.

WTH 😂

MrsToothyBitch · 18/07/2020 17:19

I think they're a rip off and many of them look unhygienic, with or without covid.

That said, I received a Lindt bouquet for my birthday last month. A friend bought it on Etsy. It was all wrapped chocolate so no hygiene worries and very pretty and a nice thought. It might have even been sold by someone with a proper little business but I am now Shock at what friend likely paid for it!! It was also tricky to open the choc to eat it Blush, due to the presentation!

I can try & find the pics I took? It looked very pretty and was still tasty- once we bludgeoned our way in!

£12,345 means "I've put something nonsensical in the price field because I want you to ask me for the price".
StonersPotPalace · 18/07/2020 17:39

They are absolutely wank. There's nothing magical about it. As other posters have said, someone has bought loads of sweets from the pound shop, emptied them out into a pizza box and is charging a huge mark up for the privilege.

Just go to the pound shop yourself!

Oh my god!

£110k for a 2 bed house?

I hate living in the south east.

Ah that makes it even more irritating Grin

attillathenun · 19/07/2020 11:34

We have a lady who does these, £12 for 2 bags of sweets 😱 but don’t worry, they are “hand tied with a beautiful ribbon”

Still not as ridiculous as the woman claiming to be a white witch selling spell jars though 😂 overpriced containers filled with glitter and potpourri! She does home made candles too if that doesn’t float your boat.

@Turnedouttoes

When I was in sixth form I used to borrow the school chef’s cash and carry card to stock up on loads of sweets and then sell little bags of pick n mix I’d made up for 50p each or those giant strawberry laces for 20p. I’d carry them around with me and people would slyly pass me money during lessons.

I was making an absolute killing at 17 but the school found out eventually and requested I sell something like fruit instead Hmm

Ds did this in high school. He was one of a couple allowed out at lunchtime (reasons, long, complex) so on the way back he’d go to the shop van, buy all the sweets he knew his incarcerated mates liked and sell them on at a profit.

Sadly this only worked until he went up a year and then everyone was allowed out. He was gutted.
