Or is everyone selling sweets in pizza boxes on Facebook?

And for an extortionate amount?! Who is buying these?
I've just seen one listing that they can post in UK for £3.70 first class.
Surely if you were even going to buy one of these 'gifts' you'd get one locally easy enough, and not have to pay the 'UK postage'Hmm seeing as they all look the same anyway

I am totally baffled by this. Do these people not know that supermarkets deliver? Why would anyone buy food on Facebook?

Mrsjayy · 15/07/2020 19:57

Doritos bouquet Grin

MrsPotatoHeadsSheeWee · 15/07/2020 21:51

Doritos Bouquet ...

Is she Hyacinth's sister?! Grin

MandosHatHair · 15/07/2020 22:08

The sweet boxes are bad enough at the best of times but who the hell are buying sweets, presumably for their kids from someone with no food hygiene certificate who is possible handling those sweets with their bare hands in the middle of a global Pandemic, its absolutely grim.

My thoughts exactly!

ToffeePennie · 15/07/2020 22:18

There is a lovely lady who lives near me who genuinely owns her own online bakery. She often sells her products in pizza boxes, but they’re always handmade cakes/traybakes and genuinely taste lush. She has a full business and a hygiene certificate.
There is another lady who owns her own sweet shop online. Again she lives round the corner from me, has all appropriate hygiene and Food safety/food handling certificates. She sells her sweets as pick n mix 1kg for £5.50 or £6 to pick your own. We usually pay £3.50 for 1/2 of that from wilkos with my husbands addiction to shrimps and bananas! I bought a 1kg mix to bring on holiday with us and my son has massively enjoyed the sweets he’s has, so for us, £5.50 for all those sweets was worth it, considering the amount of mix in there (there even appears to be a whole packet of Percy pigs in there!)

@ToffeePennie I don't think any posters are pointing out genuine businesses that have adapted to the circumstances and providing their service in a different way. These Facebook businesses are just randomers who have spent too long on Pinterest, visited the local cash and carry and trying their luck without the necessary certification and probably not paying tax as your friends are.

ToffeePennie · 15/07/2020 22:34

@HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime no I don’t think I’ve fully read the thread (I’m exhausted and have a migraine) and it’s just horrible to think that there are scammers out there trying to make a fast buck from genuine businesses!

Notredamn · 16/07/2020 00:06

Toffeepennie sounds like a....sweet bizniz kind of name 🕵🏻‍♀️ Grin

ShineyMcShine · 16/07/2020 06:34

They're a bit like those rip off graze boxes

Igotthemheavyboobs · 16/07/2020 06:58

@Darkestseasonofall

It's a way to advertise drugs for sale. Sweets delivered, pick & mix etc, it's code for drugs, I found out a few weeks ago Hmm
Load of bollocks, I know quite a few people who have these sweet boxes delivered and they are just boxes of cheap sweets. I've seen them lots of times and the coke bottles were, sadly, as advertised.
divafever99 · 16/07/2020 07:02

Unwrapped sweets that have been handled by someone else in a pandemic? No thanks!

ivykaty44 · 16/07/2020 07:22

We have a local page set up for local business during lockdown, the Facebook page has worked really well and people ask where can I get a birthday cake, afternoon tea, picnic box
So people do want those items

I would bake or make a picnic, afternoon tea for home

But obviously there are many very happy to purchase at a premium

Shouldbeworkingnotreadingtalk · 16/07/2020 07:46

I'm gonna play too ..... I'm astounded!!

There are lots on my FB. From “bossmum”.

Yawn.

metellaestinatrio · 16/07/2020 08:48

This is a complete revelation to me (clearly I don’t have the right FB friends) but I am actually crying at the Doritos bouquet 😂😂😂. I’m considering returning DH’s anniversary present and getting him one of those instead!

Don't forget the dogs!

Or is everyone selling sweets in pizza boxes on Facebook?
MrsR87 · 16/07/2020 09:55

My Facebook is full of sweet boxes and cakes. One person was trying to sell a cornflake tart for £20 the other day! I made one a few weeks ago and all the ingredients cost less that £5 and is enough for three cakes.
I also wonder how many of these ‘businesses’ are registered with their council? My understanding ( I might be wrong) is that any business that sells food of any kind, even if you are essentially repackaging something that’s already packaged, like chocolate bars, has to be registered as a food business with the council.

Proudboomer · 16/07/2020 10:00

What a rip off for a pile of crap.
But not everyone is taking the piss as one of my local pubs is doing meals. You can have a full pub roast which a choice of meats, cooked in a kitchen with all the relevant healthy and safety and hygiene certificates and a choice of pudding delivered to you door For £10.
You can ring in the morning with your order and if you are local then it will still be warm enough to eat when it arrives.

ReginaPhalangeee · 16/07/2020 17:42

I sell my cakes/brownies/traybakes on Facebook. I’m fully registered with my council, have all the relevant insurance etc. Mine sell really well.
Not everyone is a grubby scammer 🤷🏼‍♀️

puddleduckmummy · 16/07/2020 17:50

To be honest, they are exactly the kind of sweets that I would absolutely shove in my face. However, I would take my fiver/tenner to the shop and buy twice the amount to shove in my face. I also feel it’s more hygienic to do that than too, you don’t know how many sweaty little hands and dribbly mouths have been all over those boxes 😬

Stickystick · 16/07/2020 18:04

@GhettoDefendant

I'm not sure why we're ridiculing people desperate enough for money to be making sweet boxes and trying to sell them on facebook. Seems like they're probably going through enough already..
This.

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy this stuff.

I can see why, if you were laid off, skint, stuck at home with kids, with no professional skills or start up capital, you might think this was worth a shot, and who are we to judge. Good luck to them. Better to do this than invest all your savings in one of those horrible pyramid selling schemes

TheRosesAreInBloom · 16/07/2020 18:06

This was a personal fave. The choc Swiss roll nearly sold it to me....

ROFL 🤣

Spinningdot · 16/07/2020 18:23

How the eff is this a thing? They look disgusting! And really unhygienic. I'm picturing someone opening packets of sweets in their kitchen with their cat walking all over the worktop, dishing them out with their bare hands.
What's stopping the buyers going to their local £ shop or b&m & buying a few bags of haribo?
Bizarre.

justlliloleme · 16/07/2020 18:42

My daughters friend started doing this over lockdown as her recruitment business wasn't very busy. She was delivering all boxes for a tenner. She’s now opened her own shop in a prime spot in the centre of town selling sweet boxes, milkshakes, waffles etc.
She’s 24 with 2 kids. I think she’s amazing & I’m really happy that she’s doing well.

mumda · 16/07/2020 19:04

One Raffles stuff. I can't tell if she's raffling more than she's selling.
