And for an extortionate amount?! Who is buying these?
I've just seen one listing that they can post in UK for £3.70 first class.
Surely if you were even going to buy one of these 'gifts' you'd get one locally easy enough, and not have to pay the 'UK postage'Hmm seeing as they all look the same anyway

To rant on from my last post...
A friend has been sharing his DP's new 'business doing these sweets, but on top of being able to do the exact same for cheaper, you also need to collect from her house...and she lives next door to a sweet shop. So you could pop in to the shop and get what you want, packaged and cheaper, or order from her and pay more for the luxury of a cardboard pizza box you could also buy a bulk pack of yourself.

Mrsjayy · 15/07/2020 15:50

Oh I've seen breakfast in a box, looks horrific. I know lockdown has been shit but honestly just make a fresh fry up at home!

BinRaidingRaccoon · 15/07/2020 15:51

It's all ludicrous oversized hair bows, knock off perfume and sweet bouquets here - think we're a bit behind the curve in South Wales!

Mir230 · 15/07/2020 15:52

It's the afternoon tea boxes I don't get. They always look so...sad. The whole thing about afternoon tea for me is the nicely presented stand and the nice person pouring my tea for me. The boxes are just a card box with some sandwiches and those individual packets of jam you get in the work canteen etc.

Notredamn · 15/07/2020 15:52

Ah, I see MrsWombat. I wouldn't have thought all these people would be registered as self employed for some reason.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 15/07/2020 15:52

My friend who has special needs is hooked on the raffle pages.......she wins most days and is clearly spending a lot of money on winning daft things like cases of cif 🙄 she can't get past the fact she's winning something for £2 even tho she might have lost £20 on other raffles...... I think people are being exploited tbh.

Mrsjayy · 15/07/2020 15:53

I keep getting added to a knock off perfume group and I keep leaving.they also do a raffle!

Gingerkittykat · 15/07/2020 15:54

£10 for this!

I had wondered how the sweet shop in a local deprived area managed to stay in business when previous cafes have not so the drugs angle makes sense!

Blankscreen · 15/07/2020 15:58

I don't get the afternoon tea boxes. People round here doing that.

Surely the point of afternoon tea is to go somewhere decadent and be endulged for a few hours.

I am very lazy when it come to cooking but even I can manage to get to m and s and buy some fresh stuff for an afternoon tea at home. Lot less than £10 a head.

GracieLane · 15/07/2020 15:58

I think it's because people are stuck in a lot they aren't shopping around and doing it for convenience. It's not that much difference than getting any other kind of takeaway. I wouldn't do it due to the hygiene angle, but I can see why it might appeal. Anything made into a hamper seems to sell well! Amazing how much a card board box, or some plastic wrap string and a bow can make things worth double or more what the contents are 🤷🏻‍♀️

Deadringer · 15/07/2020 15:59

20 euro for this? Jog on.

Ohdeariedear · 15/07/2020 16:01

@Gingerkittykat either that’s a generic pic or you live near me. I recognised the cheesecake 🤣🤣

SmilesAreFree2020 · 15/07/2020 16:01

OK, I'll stick my hand up.... I've bought some sweet boxes (from a local sweet shop not an individual) and sent to my daughter at her residential home - she loved them. I was shielding then and not going out at all and so I bought a couple.

I also used a local bakery and ordered a box of cupcakes for £20 and £5 delivery.

I think quite a few people have had takeaway roasts from local pubs but I haven't tried that.

There you go .... obviously more than just me buy since they are springing up everywhere.

SmilesAreFree2020 · 15/07/2020 16:03

However, I have never bought anything from the younique or scenesy wax things or a couple of the other overpriced make up / candles so not completely dumb

TokyoSushi · 15/07/2020 16:03

Yep! Tonnes of them round here! 'Get yourself a treat, only £10 each or 2 for £15!!'

I literally got the contents of one of the boxes for DS birthday for £2 in Tesco!

Darkestseasonofall · 15/07/2020 16:05

To those saying it isn't a drugs front, or asking what I bought Grin I should have clarified.

A lady on our local page asked for some sweets to be delivered as she was shielding and having a movie night with her kids or some such.

A few hours later she reposted saying she was absolutely amazed at all the replies she'd had, mostly offering drugs, and only one offer for actual sweets. My mind was blown, poor wee naive thing that I am. Blush

shas19 · 15/07/2020 16:06

@theoracle drugs😂😂😂😂doubt Susan from down the roads dib dabs will do much for ya

MrsWombat · 15/07/2020 16:09

There are legitimate companies with public liability insurance and food hygiene certificates doing this too. A local bakery packaged up pizza and cookie ingredients in pizza boxes during the height of lockdown and it looked fab. The afternoon tea that looked like it had come from Lidl's Bakery (and I should know Grin) not so much.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 15/07/2020 16:09

Some of the 'pizza box' stuff I've seen looks delicious. Some friends had a picnic platter full of charcuterie, cheese and artisan crackers, another had a cream tea which looked (and apparently tasted) utterly amazing, and a local bakery does boxes of patisserie which are the stuff of dreams.

None of these look like that. They look like someone's stocked up on cheap sweets and bunged them in a box at a vast markup. Who on earth buys them?! And I'm no hygiene freak but goodness know's who has touched/breathed over/coughed over them since most of them are wrapperless (especially the slices of chocolate roll - just...why?)?

Nymeriastark1 · 15/07/2020 16:12

@Notredamn I just read that to my mum and we're both crying 😂😂

SecondStarFromTheRight · 15/07/2020 16:13

😂😂 These pictures are not disappointing!
Not sure what I was expecting but it wasn't a like of sweets in a pizza box, even though that's exactly what you said it was! I'm constantly amazed at the rubbish people will buy.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 15/07/2020 16:18

excellent value and worth buying for a special treat.

That's exactly it though. It isnt excellent value. Theres no skill & little time required in packaging up a box of stuff anyone can buy for half the cost in a supermarket, so any low skilled person can do it. Any foolish buyer is over-rewarding the service they are getting here.

MotherWol · 15/07/2020 16:18

I've just had a look on FB marketplace, and someone is selling a box of brownies with the classic "needs gone by tomorrow".

Why? What's going to happen? You made/bought the bloody brownies, Sandra, either eat them or bin them.

Tupperwarelid · 15/07/2020 16:20

This is a personal favourite of mine on one of the local Facebook pages.

Oh god 😂
