Or is everyone selling sweets in pizza boxes on Facebook?

And for an extortionate amount?! Who is buying these?
I've just seen one listing that they can post in UK for £3.70 first class.
Surely if you were even going to buy one of these 'gifts' you'd get one locally easy enough, and not have to pay the 'UK postage'Hmm seeing as they all look the same anyway

@QueSera

These look like the boxes in our bottom kitchen cupboard where we chuck all the random sweets DC receive from various places. Didnt know I could be monetising this!
YES! They just look like a load of party bag leftovers that no one ever eats. I am quite jealous that I never see this stuff on my FB though...where should I look?
MrsWombat · 15/07/2020 16:30

I often see "buyer never turned up and has now blocked me. Now selling at a discount to get some money back after I was up all night doing this" sob story.

Dizzywizz · 15/07/2020 16:30

Omg that Doritos one is hilarious 😂 😂🤣

BrightYellowDaffodil · 15/07/2020 16:32

@Tupperwarelid £15?! Fuck me, that's insane.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 15/07/2020 16:37

Oh god. I've not seen these but the photos alone are making me feel queasy 🤮 There's no way the people making these from their homes all have hygiene licenses!

The the previous posted saying they bought some from a sweetshop and cakes from a bakery, I don't think that's quite the same. It's their profession and they'd be doing it with all the relevant health and safety/hygiene certificates

UnfinishedSymphon · 15/07/2020 16:38

We have a local woman selling what she's calling graze boxes which are a 10" box filled with sweet or savoury or half of each. Looking at them I can see 4 triangles of sandwiches (2 rounds of bread), 2 mini pork pies, 2 small slices of quiche, 2 cupcakes and 2 scones with jam & butter. £25!!!!!!!

And there's another offering cheesecake in a small jar for a fiver

Good luck to her on the infringement of Graze's intellectual property!

@HappyPunky

🙄 A family member does this. It’s weird.
In fairness she raffles ‘designer’ items and they’re all brand new but some of them can be £15-20 per ticket which is insane.
It’s also very illegal but she’s young and an ‘entrepreneur’!

I’m a keen baker and get a lot of compliments on my bakes but I wouldn’t start flogging them on facebook/insta because I don’t have a food hygiene certificate or the proper insurance. I think I’m a bit too conscientious for modern business.

Sweet boxes make me howl, they’re outrageously bad value but not more so than people selling second hand wedding dresses and designer pushchairs. Literally nobody wants to buy them around here, so it’s the exact same process every time.
-Seller posts a heart felt ‘so sad to let it go...it deserves to be loved again... just can’t fathom it sitting in a box forever’...etc asking for about 50-75% of original value which is still way above what many would spend for new never mind second hand.
-No body responds - you’d think they’d see this coming given it happens every single time anyone tries to flog these items but no. So they bump it. Re post it. Over and over, getting what I assume are their friends/family to like it!

  • Someone (‘that’ person, every for sale Facebook site has) comments ‘well if you want it to be loved and used here is somewhere you can donate it to’
-Seller gives a pissy response making it clear they actually only give a shit about cash and recouping some of the ridiculous price they originally paid. Grin

@Darkestseasonofall

It's a way to advertise drugs for sale. Sweets delivered, pick & mix etc, it's code for drugs, I found out a few weeks ago Hmm
Shock

AldiAisle. I report to admins who remove the post. I like things done lawfully Smile
Bore off
Finfintytint · 15/07/2020 17:58

What do you mean roxfox? Are you an entrepreneurial Mummy who likes to take the piss?
Are you happy with absolute shite taking up Facebook?

Finfintytint · 15/07/2020 18:03

Also roxfox, do you condone illegal activity? Do you think tax evaders, fraudsters and general con men ok?

leftovercoffeecake · 15/07/2020 18:03

This thread inspired me to go and look at my own Facebook market place. I’m rather horrified! Who would pay these prices?

LMAO no I'm not but I don't have time to go around reporting people for minor infringements of the law when they are trying to feed their kids!
nevermorelenore · 15/07/2020 18:05

If you're on a diet, someone is selling a Slimming World box. Mmm I can feel the pounds just melting away.

But yeah, I've seen a whole load of people selling this crap on my timeline. The ones with wrapped sweets look ok but the ones with loose sweets from Costco chucked in a pizza box look bloody awful. You simply don't know who has packed them and whether they've even washed their hands.

In about 6 weeks time it will be endless posts about Christmas hot chocolate kits and those shit xmas eve boxes.

Or is everyone selling sweets in pizza boxes on Facebook?
Finfintytint · 15/07/2020 18:07

Really? We’re talking about a Facebook removal here, not a removal to the Gulag. Feeding their children - bollocks. Taking advantage of poor and vulnerable people more like.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 15/07/2020 18:09

It does sound a bit shit but not sure why you are all O_o about first class postage being £3.70, that's how much first class postage is from the post office...

The second one is hilarious, 2 nescafe instant coffee sachets a couple of ramekins of popcorn and a few old stale cakes £27
HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 15/07/2020 18:22

The sweet boxes are bad enough at the best of times but who the hell are buying sweets, presumably for their kids from someone with no food hygiene certificate who is possible handling those sweets with their bare hands in the middle of a global Pandemic, its absolutely grim.

Blingismything · 15/07/2020 18:41

We have had loads of 'platters' on our FB during lockdown. Meat, breadsticks, olives, figs with goldleaf artistically applied. I kid you not.

unoeufisunoeuf1 · 15/07/2020 18:49

I'd be so sad if I opened a box expecting a delicious freshly baked pizza, and instead found some sticky Haribos or stale Swiss roll.

Woodmarsh · 15/07/2020 18:50

I have at least two friends selling cakes on Facebook now. They keep inviting me to like their pages and I really want to ask about food hygiene allergies etc

GhettoDefendant · 15/07/2020 19:10

I'm not sure why we're ridiculing people desperate enough for money to be making sweet boxes and trying to sell them on facebook. Seems like they're probably going through enough already..

Malbecblooms · 15/07/2020 19:18

This particular thing seems a bit mad but I hate the mentality of I can get it on Amazon/ pound land cheaper than an independent business.

Handmade items are more expensive than mass produced. We should think about more than money. We have lost an appreciation of value.

However,that said buying commercially available chocolate repackaging and selling in for more is odd.

Holothane · 15/07/2020 19:23

I buy my treats from our local shop, I’ve got a box of dark bounty as part of my birthday treats.
