As the thread says...U.K. and USA are all up in arms about wearing masks! Meanwhile here in Ireland and in other countries ppl just do what is asked and wear the bloody masks!! I mean WTAF do they think makes them so special? Do the numbers not speak for themselves!??

I mean they are not that bad most medical professionals wear them ALL the time pre Covid and you never heard them complain Hmm

Greysparkles · 14/07/2020 08:25

Most medical professionals did not wear them all the time prior covid... But that's by the by.

This is a predominantly UK forum so I wouldn't expect to see people from other countries moaning about masks here tbh

I expect its quite the same world over

Fluffybutter · 14/07/2020 08:26

Oh do shut up and stop looking for an argument.
So sick of people getting on their high horse about this .

janeymacaronijoanie · 14/07/2020 08:27

@Greysparkles dentists, surgeons etc yes they wear masks...and yes prior to Covid they did!

Hazelnutlatteplease · 14/07/2020 08:27

Totally agree OP

Minimamame · 14/07/2020 08:27

I’m Irish, living in Ireland and I don’t agree with you at all...I’m definitely in the minority when I’m out and about wearing my mask!

MrsRonaldUlyssesSwanson · 14/07/2020 08:28

Scotland isn't up in arms about it, compliance has been very high since the mandatory requirement to wear masks came in last week Wink

cologne4711 · 14/07/2020 08:29

So nobody in Ireland has complained about wearing a mask? If that is actually true (big if) I do wonder what the problem is with all the speshulness of people living in the UK regarding masks. They're wearing them in Germany, Spain and Italy and I take the view that if it's good enough in Germany it's good enough here.

Medical professionals didn't wear them pre-covid except for operations and of course dentists.

Dentists and surgeons (and nurses assisting with operations, obviously) - not all medical professionals by a long way. Of course you need a mask if you are cutting into someone or breathing over someone's mouth.

janeymacaronijoanie · 14/07/2020 08:31

@Minimamame where I am I would say up to 80% of ppl are wearing masks! A bus passed my yesterday and every single person on board had one on. I was in a queue of 10 people on Monday and 9 people had one on. Even the kids are wearing them!!

How do people know folk in other countries haven’t been moaning about them too? Just because you see a snippet on the news with people in Italy or wherever wearing them doesn’t mean they haven’t had people whinging there too.

jerometheturnipking · 14/07/2020 08:34

Dunno I’ve noticed a pretty high compliance in Scotland since the mandatory masks in shops started last week, and a huge increase in the days leading up to it.

4amWitchingHour · 14/07/2020 08:35

I don't understand why people are so whiny about wearing masks. It's really really really not a big deal, and some people are acting like it's the end of days. They possibly just like to be dramatic.

daysofpearlyspencer · 14/07/2020 08:35

I have had two appointments in the cancer centre of my local hospital, in the UK, during lockdown. The haematologist did not wear a mask either time but the 'receptionist did! He felt my lymph nodes with no gloves on too. I was a little surprised. I of course went masked up.

Laaalaaaa · 14/07/2020 08:36

Scotland have already implemented it and everybody I saw in shops yesterday had masks on. Stop generalising the UK when it’s already been implemented in other parts.

DoyouthinkIcare · 14/07/2020 08:38

I see only about 25% of passengers on buses wearing masks so not sure it will happen in shops anyway

Psychoseverywhere · 14/07/2020 08:39

The reason so many were wearing masks on the buses you saw was because legislation has now been passed and they don't fancy paying a fine out of their beer money so comply with the masks instead.

I am in Ireland and I am hearing a LOT of moaning about mask wearing. Im wearing mine but then that's just to hide my grimaces when I come across some arsehat who is shitting on about the 'plandemic' we are in or 'scamdemic' as I heard the other day. If only I could wear my dark glasses to stop people seeing my eyes rolling too we would all be happier. So many people here moaning about the masks!!!!

isabellerossignol · 14/07/2020 08:39

I'm from N Ireland and am currently in Ireland. I'd estimate that both at home and here I'm seeing about one in 10 people wearing masks. Presumably it's nearly 100% of people on public transport, but I haven't been on a bus or train myself so haven't witnessed it first hand.

ConstantlySeekingHappiness · 14/07/2020 08:39

Do you mean England when you say the UK?

Please don’t put Scotland into the “U.K. are moaning” category - they’re already mandatory here and no one is bothered.

isabellerossignol · 14/07/2020 08:41

I donated blood recently and not a single one of the staff at the donation centre were wearing masks.

Destroyedpeople · 14/07/2020 08:42

Also...Wales has its own rules....

MonsteraCheeseplant · 14/07/2020 08:42

Ok this does come across as having a chip on your shoulder.
It's not yet compulsory here so yeah, not everyone is gonna be wearing them.
I don't know where you are OP, but where I am (England), I don't get a lot of news about how individuals in other countries feel about wearing them, however i'd probably say that no country is homogenous and the people probably feel very differently abroad and at home.

Was just going to post the same ! Even DGS14 and his pals are happily complying .

DoyouthinkIcare · 14/07/2020 08:44

@Psychos - I said 25% do wear masks so 75% don't. I'm in England by the way so they are compulsory
