As the thread says...U.K. and USA are all up in arms about wearing masks! Meanwhile here in Ireland and in other countries ppl just do what is asked and wear the bloody masks!! I mean WTAF do they think makes them so special? Do the numbers not speak for themselves!??

I mean they are not that bad most medical professionals wear them ALL the time pre Covid and you never heard them complain Hmm

OP posts:
Destroyedpeople · 14/07/2020 09:19

Love, you started a whole thread based on a moan...Grin

Mintychoc1 · 14/07/2020 09:21

isthisfinallyit what a strange post.
I think possibly living through the blitz wasn’t much fun.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 14/07/2020 09:23

I'm on the outskirts of Dublin. Sure in hospital everyone's wearing a mask, but in Tescos? Maybe 20% of people wear them.

I went into the next town along for some bits the other day, Aldi, the petrol station, not a single person was wearing a mask.

And Easter weekend - there were plenty of family dinners on the estate around me, despite still being in lockdown. Phoenix Park was heaving when I drove past once during lockdown when it was sunny.

Ireland has done pretty well, but no way are we all meekly wearing masks and doing as we're told!

Emeraldshamrock · 14/07/2020 09:24

OP you can discuss this without being goady or making sweeping comments.
I notice more resistance from SOME people in England over other countries though I think it is a minority who don't like been told what to do.
Everyone wants the same thing for coronavirus to go away.

Thisismytimetoshine · 14/07/2020 09:24

@Destroyedpeople

You are so boring.

Yes Ireland and the Irish are wonderful and the UK is really stupid. There now you got what you wanted. Happy?

Now off you pop and look for an argument about the general superiority of Ireland over nasty old UK elsewhere .

Bye.

That's a very nasty response?? Has op touched a nerve?
EthelMayFergus · 14/07/2020 09:25

I'm Irish and dh is Italian, I can vouch for the fact that there are definite grumbles from both of our families about wearing masks. It's not just the British.

Kaiserin · 14/07/2020 09:28

I don't think this kind of generalisation is very helpful.
My parents live in France, and were pleasantly surprised to see people in their area adopting masks so readily.
But then in another part of the same country, a bus driver got violently assaulted for asking passengers to wear their masks.
Countries are not homogeneous blobs of like-minded people.

I'm hopeful people in England will soon start wearing masks as kindly requested. My experience is that people in England love whining but generally (aside from a minority of anti social morons) take great care to follow rules.
The biggest problem is that some areas have a large concentration of anti social morons who think rules only apply to others and always know best.

You mean England, don’t you?

Weird conflation for an Irish person to make.

That's exactly what I thought!
HandsOffMyRights · 14/07/2020 09:33

Are people in other countries just "getting on with it" though? France and Sweden for example?

isthismylifenow · 14/07/2020 09:35

I live in another country.

Its compulsory to wear one here.

I have yet to come across anyone who is exempt from wearing one. If someone doesn't feel comfortable wearing a mask, then a shield is what is worn.

If you refuse to wear some sort of face covering, then you need to stay at home.

It is regulation, so it is what it is. You will not get into a shop, a medical facility or your office if you are not wearing some face covering. It is not debatable. But then again, it's been the case since day one of lockdown so we didn't have the yes/no/maybe situation that England has had (from what I have established).

EthelMayFergus · 14/07/2020 09:37

@Hopoindown31

English exceptionalism, i.e. being a bunch of selfish, ignorant bastards.
Is this okay? Is there any other nation that this could be said about?
jackdawdawn · 14/07/2020 09:41

No, I don't understand the hostility either. I don't find wearing a mask any more inconvenient than wearing glasses. Yes, they can be a pain, they can steam up and you'd rather not need them, but if you do, end of story!

gemsgv · 14/07/2020 09:48

Do the numbers not speak for themselves!??

what that the numbers have come right down you mean?

Hingeandbracket · 14/07/2020 09:48

@janeymacaronijoanie

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 ok ENGLISH...but yes please keep moaning....
Oh good another "the English are scum" thread. How refreshing.
merrytombombadil · 14/07/2020 09:50

Most people round here seem fine with it. On here I've seen a few people whingeing (and a tiny number who genuinely can't wear them for medical reasons) and the vast majority responding by saying they are happy to do it to help contain the virus

Destroyedpeople · 14/07/2020 09:55

'A nasty response'...sick of being polite to people who dont deserve it and hearing about what terrible people the English are.
People can get lost with their ''touched a nerve' Bollocks.

GoshHashana · 14/07/2020 09:57

Capitalism creates a population of selfish individualistic people, who act like selfish individualistic people. Why is this such a surprise?

Holyrivolli · 14/07/2020 10:00

All these Scottish people are fully complying places. Wonder where all these 100% compliance places are.

In our various different local supermarkets approx 33% wear one. I felt a bit of an oddity in mine.

Hingeandbracket · 14/07/2020 10:02

That's a very nasty response?? Has op touched a nerve?
It's no more nasty than all the other nasty anti-English racism in this thread. and what the exactual fuck does "touched a nerve" mean?

OpenWheelRace · 14/07/2020 10:04

How the hell are face masks being used an excuse to bash the English??

Wish everyone would just leave everyone else the hell alone.

They're face masks, not the War of Independence

Hoppinggreen · 14/07/2020 10:06

I’m in England and nobody I know is “up in arms”
Everyone I know is just quietly getting on with sourcing masks, not a very interesting headline though is it?

Thighdentitycrisis · 14/07/2020 10:12

I’m actually offended by the anti U.K. sentiment coming across from many threads on here. Are these comments from people who think they want to feel they are doing the right thing and a way to reassure themselves of that is by telling themselves, and others that they are doing it wrong.

I’m a generally easygoing and accepting person, some say that is a trait of the U.K. population.

But I’m getting sick of this.

ChurchOfWokeApostate · 14/07/2020 10:12

Must be exhausting to spend so much of your time thinking about what the English are doing and saying

Butchyrestingface · 14/07/2020 10:13

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 ok ENGLISH...but yes please keep moaning....

Sure and the rest of us can remember that should we ever see you “moaning” when Irish are referred to as British.

EmpressSuiko · 14/07/2020 10:14

There does seem to be a lot of fuss over masks, other countries have worn masks for years to help combat normal illnesses like coughs and colds.
I don’t understand why people are so upset over it?
I have asthma and yes they are 100% uncomfortable and it’s going to be much harder on some people to wear them due to an array of issues but unfortunately it’s a “not about you” situation and it’s about protecting everyone else.
There is a wide variety of options, even scarfs/bandanas with a pocket for a filter and ear loops to prevent them falling down or the face shields, it doesn’t need to be a mask, just some sort of covering.
