Just that.

Ok then.

Hope you find something more fulfilling and productive to do with your time before too long.

FuckinGoddess · 12/07/2020 19:21

There’s no fat phobia, there is only fat consequence.

Nicknacky · 12/07/2020 19:22

Ok. I don’t think this thread will be up long enough for your message to be heard by us all.

JizzPigeon22 · 12/07/2020 19:22

Scared of fat people?? No Grin

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 12/07/2020 19:22

That's so not a thing.

LazyFace · 12/07/2020 19:23

I'm not scared of fat. Just had two slices of bread with thick butter.

Littlecaf · 12/07/2020 19:23

Eh?

Ok

Beebee8 · 12/07/2020 19:24

This is a genuine question. Am I wrong? All I see is thread after thread with people showing complete ignorance re: health in relation to weight.

OP posts:
GinDaddyRedux · 12/07/2020 19:24

Thanks for that thought.

I don't fear fat people, or I'd be scared of older family members. I don't stigmatize people in general so I don't do that to "fat" people.

I do however sometimes take a view against the "everyone is beautiful the way they are hun" stuff, and think that perhaps there are health implications and people sometimes need help with the emotional/comfort side of things. That's not a criticism or fear of that person, it's usually in response to a post which is a very deep seated cry for help, not an unsolicited thought from me.

So no, just stop general verbal machine gun spraying to get replies, and come back with something yourself that actually explains your premise.

BellyMama · 12/07/2020 19:25

I’m sure I’ll get slated but I think there’s a huge cultural pressure to conform to the thin ‘normal’ as portrayed in the media and if you’re overweight you must be a pig who overeats and should be considered unattractive/unhealthy/undesirable.... not sure if this is what you mean though so may not have voted right 😂

ShebaShimmyShake · 12/07/2020 19:25

Probably, but we are a product of our larger society. Posters for the most part are not abusive to fat people.

Beebee8 · 12/07/2020 19:26

OK so nobody even knows what the term fatphobia means judging by the pointless comments above Confused

Soubriquet · 12/07/2020 19:28

Maybe you mean sizeist rather than fatphobia..

VaTeLaverLesMains · 12/07/2020 19:28

Please explain, OP. I genuinely don't know what you mean-fear of getting fat, fear of fat people, fear of eating fat, fear of actual fat as an entity...?

Ohtherewearethen · 12/07/2020 19:28

Ok @Beebee8 you post completely vague and information-lacking posts and expect people to give you in-depth answers?!

Scarlettpixie · 12/07/2020 19:29

Perhaps you could enlighten us BeeBee8

peasaregood · 12/07/2020 19:29

yeah, I'm terrified of fats. All of them

Divebar · 12/07/2020 19:29

What I would say is a lot of people associate slimness with attractiveness. So for example they can’t work out why they’re DH was unfaithful and one of the factors mentioned is that they’re slim - or the OW is larger ( and therefore presumably inferior ? 🤷‍♀️). Sometimes the scenario is that they’re single and can’t “ get a man “ and don’t understand and being slim is mentioned as being a quality that they see as desirable. That’s not to say that they’re fat phobic but definitely place their slimness high up in their list of desirable characteristics rather than say being well read or interesting.

Beebee8 · 12/07/2020 19:30

OK thank you for the people who have constructed legitimate responses. I thought the question was pretty clear but I guess not.

I'll elaborate, then. I do think people on here are abusive about fat people. I think their first instinct is to judge them on what they consume and how much they move their body, in a way they would never do to a thin person.

It is used as a derogatory descriptor by so many as well, especially on a recent thread where people shared experiences about strangers who had been rude/violent towards them.

I get we are a product of our society but I feel there's not much excuse now for this level of cruelty and ignorance. There is so much information out there for the taking that it surprises me when people can't look past what the media tell them

I don't know I agree anymore with this.

I think yes, a lot of role models/famous women in media and entertainment choose though great discipline and commercial pressure to be a certain size and shape.

yet I would say looking at the number of people size 16 and above I see in London /South East wearing skin tight leggings, short t-shirts, very close fitting stuff, I think somehow there has been a change in (some!) young people with body confidence and acceptance.

I see way, way more larger teenagers. male but mainly more female, than I have ever seen when I was a child 25 years ago. Way more.

So I don't think there is a "huge cultural pressure" in the same way as say Kate Moss' day in the 90s.

DameCelia · 12/07/2020 19:30

I've never been scared of fat people, or eating fat, or being fat or eating fat people.
How did I live so long without knowing I should be one of those things to be on MN Confused

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 12/07/2020 19:31

Phobia's a Greek word. You can only really construct a word for a phobia using another Greek word. You mean steatophobia (or something along those lines) but I'm pretty sure that's not a real thing.

SkinnyChicky · 12/07/2020 19:31

What are the benefits of being fat then?

Please remove that uncomfortable implement from your arse and press reset on the goad level before replying further OP...
beela · 12/07/2020 19:33

So you don't actually mean fear of fat? You know that a phobia is a fear of something, right?
