Just that.

Finfintytint · 12/07/2020 19:47

There was always one fat child in the class when I went to school (40 years ago). Now I see fat children everywhere and even more fat adults. If I’m honest I do judge. Sugary and fatty foods are cheap and I understand that low income families fall into the trap of filling up on cheap stuff.
I’ve been fat btw, after childbirth and also after a leg break where I did fuck all excercise for a few years due to complications.
I don’t fear fat people but I fear being one.

roarfeckingroar · 12/07/2020 19:48

Actually being pregnant has made me much more understanding of why overweight people don't "do something about it". Having an extra stone on my frame feels absolutely exhausting. Walking is harder. Everything is harder.

Dorobie · 12/07/2020 19:48

I’m pretty judgy of fat people. As a fit, healthy person who exercises and eats well I do judge people who don’t do execise, eat crap and are fat. Unless of course there is a debilitating reason.

But generally speaking... being fat is unhealthy. All the doctors say so

roarfeckingroar · 12/07/2020 19:48

EDUCATE ME OP! I DEMAND TO SHARE IN YOUR SUPERIOR KNOWLEGE AND UNDERSTANDING!!!

1940s · 12/07/2020 19:48

I don't want to be fat as I won't believe a very obese person is healthy. I wouldn't want my family members to be fat as I'd understand that meant they were risking their health. I eat well and exercise to not become fat. I would be concerned if a nursery teacher or childminder in charge of my children was very very very very fat as I wouldn't perceive them as being able to move around as much as a slimmer person. However I don't go around sneering or making jokes and it doesn't affect the diversity of my friendship group or even people I've hired in the past. This is an educated opinion that very very fat people are a health risk to themselves and I would be concerned about the agility and energy a morbidly obese person would have if I left them in charge if my children. Would you class me as fatphobic?

CrunchyCrumpet · 12/07/2020 19:49

@Soubriquet thank you it has been a long time since I had a proper belly laugh!! Grin

IhateBoswell · 12/07/2020 19:49

I'm not scared of fat people, nor do I dislike them. I just couldn't eat a full one 🙈

Bluntness100 · 12/07/2020 19:50

Op there are a huge amount of over weight folks on here. I think you’re way off the Mark.

This website has about sixteen million members. It is a normal mix of society but skewed towards women and parents. The majority are not fat phobic, logally because the Majority are likely over weight. Many thread about dieting, eating, clothes, will prove that.

I’m not sure what chip you’ve got on your shoulder or what’s caused your sensitivity but no, the marjority of the millions of people on here are not fat phobic.

roarfeckingroar · 12/07/2020 19:50

@BellyMama Liv Tyler is tall. There's a whole world of difference between being a size 16 at my height (5"4) and 5"10.

Itsarattrap · 12/07/2020 19:50

Today 19:42 Beebee8

@PablosHoney I'm glad you feel this way, because a person being fat should be of no concern to anybody else!“

My husband is very fat, always has been. It’s of great concern to me because his quality of life isn’t great the older he gets, he’s very physically limited because of his excess weight and conditions it’s caused and I really wish he could enjoy life more fully. So does he. Also, selfishly, I love him very much and want him with me for as long as possible.

1moreRep · 12/07/2020 19:50

i do not agree op, however i think many ppl are kidding themselves thinking they are healthy and vastly over weight. When posters comment on this they are branded as fatphobic .

obesity is killing the nhs and is far more dangerous to people than clovid. people over feed their children to the point they are shortening their lives and it seems there is little consequence.

h3av3n · 12/07/2020 19:51

Nobody is slim at a size 16, sorry but that's delusional. That's a 33 inch waist... Even if you're very tall a size 16 is unhealthy...

ShowOfHands · 12/07/2020 19:51

I see extraordinary amounts of time and care taken over encouraging people, suggesting diets, motivation, exercise support, boot camps, patience, education, experience.

I think MN is surprisingly good at supporting people to lose weight when they ask for it.

Of course there's negativity. See also, every other topic on here. It's not the majority at all.

WorraLiberty · 12/07/2020 19:51

@BellyMama

And guys a size 16 frequently isn’t that fat - Liv Tyler was a size 16 for years and you can’t say she was grossly fat surely?!
Liv Tyler is 5ft 10".

If she was 5ft 3" I'm sure wearing a size 16 would look rather different.

GlittercheeksOakleaf · 12/07/2020 19:51

Mumsnet is awash with posters who like to pretend they're concerned about health/the NHS/whatever when really they just like to stick the boot into people who are overweight.

The descriptions of the (mostly imagined) ways that overweight people eat just drip with judgement and disgust.

They forget there are real, actual people behind the names on these boards who might be affected by their words.

Beebee8 · 12/07/2020 19:52

@FancyPants20

You're certain the heart attacks were weight related, not health related?

Thin people can have heart attacks caused by the same issues as fat people, but nobody would say it was anything to do with their weight.

Someone's weight in and of itself is not any indication of health. You cannot look at someone and know how they became that weight, or how they are currently living. Not that it would be any of anyone's business, but someone who was classed as 'obese' could change their eating and exercise habits to adequately nourish themselves and not lose weight, but society would still deem them as lesser.

Nobody deserves to be made to feel like shit for how they look.

roarfeckingroar · 12/07/2020 19:52

@1940s you've summed up really well how I feel. Let's await judgment of whether we need "educating" by the OP Grin.

Bluntness100 · 12/07/2020 19:52

Liv Tyler was a size 16 for years and you can’t say

Liv Tyler is about nine stone and quite tall. Do you mean her sister who is a plus size model?

Ginkypig · 12/07/2020 19:52

Maybe you should do some research into the origins of the word fatphobia it has links to racism and the dislike of black (normally) woman's body shape.

suggestionsplease1 · 12/07/2020 19:53

General obesity has consequences for everyone - it increases all cause risk of death, cancers, heart disease, stroke and, of course, the subsequent burden of managing all these conditions for the NHS, which we are all paying for.

It was a well-known risk factor for more serious complications and hospitalisations for Covid-19.

Is that fatphobic to point that out?

h3av3n · 12/07/2020 19:53

Liv Tyler wasn't size 16, she has said herself she was a US size 8 (UK size 12). No size 16 women look like that.

PablosHoney · 12/07/2020 19:54

@Itsarattrap I can understand that, my husband isn’t fat at all so I don’t have that worry.

h3av3n · 12/07/2020 19:55

Yes you can tell someone is unhealthy by the fact they're obese as being obese is unhealthy, just as you can tell someone is unhealthy if they're emaciated.

Smellbellina · 12/07/2020 19:56

I haven’t seen posters be any ruder about obesity than I have about smoking or alcohol dependency, it’s just considered unhealthy (which it is).

h3av3n · 12/07/2020 19:56

Anyone will lose weight if they're in a calorie deficit and yes you can tell how someone became overweight (too many calories)
