To send delivery men home and only pay half

Rosebyanothername19 · 12/07/2020 10:36

We are partially moving house today and the delivery ment arrived at half 8 today ad agreed to do the first load. The idea was they take the first load with my husband while I put the baby down for a nap, meaning by the time they are back for the second load dc will be rested and in a good mood ready for the second load to be done.

All loaded in fine, dh sets off to the new house while delivery men are finishing off last few boxes. They decide they have more space so stomp upstairs (where I am trying to get dc down) and try to unlock the balcony door to get the furniture off there. It is awkward to open and stick so they start calling for me to ask why it won't open.

I unlatch the baby, go out and politely tell them to leave it and to leave the house as I'm trying to get the baby down. She is not great at sleeping when there is lots of noise going on but I had almost got her to sleep when they started stomping upstairs and she was very much woken up by the shouting!

It has just taken me another hour and lots of tears to get her to sleep and they are due back to do the second run.

So WIBU to send them home or am I cutting off my nose to spite my face and its not reasonable for the whole world to revolve around my my babys naps?

I think everything I would’ve said has already been said... so I will just say this, I can’t believe over 500 people have voted and it’s still completely unanimous! Congratulations OP... even tho they’re all disagreeing with you 😬

If you were going to be unavailable to the movers who might have a question then your DH shouldn't have gone until the movers were done

zingally · 12/07/2020 12:35

Yes, think you've answered your own question. It IS unreasonable to expect the world to stop for your baby's nap.

You wanted to move house. You wanted the men to come at this time, on this day, and do this job.

Your DC will recover from the small trauma of being woken from a nap, as will you. The lunacy here is expecting people trying to do a job, on a time frame, to tip-toe around your baby's nap schedule. Your schedule is not their problem, beyond turning up at the time you asked them to be there!

Honestly, you sound a bit crazy.

OldEvilOwl · 12/07/2020 12:35

YABVU! How ridiculous

Auntydarah · 12/07/2020 12:41

You'd probs have to pay them anyway as you'd agreed a certain amount of work. Moving is noisy Yabu to expect the day to fit around baby's nappa sorry. I guess no one else could have the baby? I looked after my 6 week old niece when my sister moved as she knew a baby isn't very compatible with moving. But I appreciate not everyone has that option. You would have been better with dh coordinating and you going out or to a hotel.

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 12/07/2020 12:42

I’m not going to repeat what’s already been said but YABVVVVVU.

Parker231 · 12/07/2020 12:44

It’s not the removal company job to fit around a nap time. You’d have been better going out for the day and leaving them to it. You have to pay them.

PenelopePitstop49 · 12/07/2020 12:45

Is it behave like a spoiled princess week on MN???!

Hmm
Beautiful3 · 12/07/2020 12:45

It's just for one day. Let them do their job.

Namechange8471 · 12/07/2020 12:48

The world doesn’t revolve around your baby’s nap op.

Get a grip and let them get on with their job.

tara66 · 12/07/2020 12:56

Have you never moved before? It can be much worse than whether baby gets nap! Are you joking?

UnaCorda · 12/07/2020 12:57

The idea was they take the first load with my husband while I put the baby down for a nap, meaning by the time they are back for the second load dc will be rested and in a good mood ready for the second load to be done.

Did you actually tell them this?

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/07/2020 12:59

We moved 50 miles away when we had a just turned 1 and just turned 2 year old - it's tough but they are there to do a job and weren't being malicious, just not as thoughtful as you wanted.

Ours napped in the car that day, in the shade and with windows open, not sure if that's an option for you? Maybe not if you only have one car and DH is away in it.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/07/2020 13:00

Or do you have a garden they could nap in outdoors and out of the way?

Cauliflowerpowerpop · 12/07/2020 13:02

That’s absolutely ridiculous!!!

PatchworkElmer · 12/07/2020 13:04

Why didn’t your husband stop them coming upstairs then? I think I’d probably just take DC for a walk next time.

ItsSpittingEverybodyIn · 12/07/2020 13:04

I've just laughed out loud at this because I honestly used to be as rigid as this with the naps etc. Loosened up after 3rd and the world carried on turning surprisingly!

BadLad · 12/07/2020 13:19

Have you logged it with 101?

Rose789 · 12/07/2020 13:22

I think this is the 1st time I have seen a vote on MN that is 100% YABU
Good luck with the move and best of luck in your new home Flowers

Alwaysinpain · 12/07/2020 13:24

My Mum has baby DC whilst I was moving. But then I didn't have a DH to do all the hard work that removal men are unable to.

Can anyone provide childcare at short notice?

SeasonFinale · 12/07/2020 13:25

If they did 2 loads last week and 2 loads this and 2 loads next they either have the world's tiniest van or OP has the world's biggest house.

When we moved house for peace and quiet I fed our baby in the car and then he slept in the pram in the back garden.

PuppyMonkey · 12/07/2020 13:25

Sounds like quite a complicated house move OP. I’d have taken the baby out for a walk in pram if I was that obsessed with her getting a nap - leave the noisy removal people to it.

abigailsnan · 12/07/2020 13:28

This is just ridiculous OPs these poor men have gone out of a morning to do a days work and meet the mother from hell, what do you do when someone knocks on the front door or your phone rings do you insult them as well.

empiricallyyours · 12/07/2020 13:42

YABU, sorry OP and I'm calling out the stealth boast that you have enough loads for 3 or 4 professional removal trucks full. Are you moving from Buckingham Palace to Sandringham?

PatricksRum · 12/07/2020 13:46

13:30

Reminds me of this. Sorry OP.
