To get this driver fired?

DAILY MAIL AND SUN ARE FACIST SCUM

Help me think this through.

I had an Argos delivery this morning which came early while I was still in bed. I stuck my head out of the window and asked the driver to just leave it on the step and I would get it in in a bit. I thought he would leave it and drive away as others have.

I brought the baby downstairs and settled her and then went to bring the parcel in, so a couple of minutes later. I opened the door and the driver was still there. I apologised because I didn't realise he'd be waiting for me. But also cringed because I was still in my nightshirt and had been feeding Dd so it was fairly unbuttoned.

Obviously Id thought he was gone and was just grabbing parcels off my step so wasn't super bothered about dignity.

However I just got a text from a private number saying "Hi thank you for putting a big smile on my face for the rest of the day your a beautiful woman xx".

I'm really grossed out. There's noone else it could be. I'm freaking that this man knows where I live and annoyed that he has saved my number. What should I do? I don't want to lose someone their livelihood. I'd told DH how friendly he was Envy

Can I complain? Should I?

@redwoodmazza

I would just ignore and move on.

But then again, I'm old and all this 'modern day' being offended does my head in. Get him sacked?? FFS?

Do the initials GDPR mean anything to you ?
imsooverthisdrama · 05/07/2020 14:13

Breaching data protection is a sacking offence.
Oh I thought people on here were up in arms because they thought the guy was sleazy and inappropriate.
The complaint about data protection is one thing.

Agreed. Ridiculous.
Candyflosscookie · 05/07/2020 14:15

It's a GDPR breach as well as being pervy.

Please report it OP by email with a shot of the text.

The next woman he targets could be far more affected by this and he needs to be reprimanded/resent for training or not allowed to do this job any more if he is using personal info in this way.

Loathe all the excuses on here too. He will know it's wrong. His company needs to know how he is using their customers info.

imsooverthisdrama · 05/07/2020 14:18

Why don't you just reply and say who is this?
That way you definitely know it's him .
To just complain and say oh it was him you don't know , ring him or reply back .
You can complain about data protection but you can't say it's Pervy that's a opinion.

goodwinter · 05/07/2020 14:19

The company can't just ignore and move on - it's a GDPR breach and quite possibly reportable to the ICO.

Imo this isn't comparable to the "quick, someone said something offensive online, let's try and remove their livelihood!" type thing that some posters are insinuating. This is inappropriate behaviour towards a customer, made possible by misusing the customer's personal data. It's serious.

acatcalledjohn · 05/07/2020 14:21

Absolutely inappropriate, and far too coincidental to be a random neighbour. Perfectly right to report. If it's a first offence then he may be ok, but for all we know he's done it before. The bottom line of it is that it should never have happened. It's intrusive and harassment.

As for this comment:

Both you and the driver were inappropriate. You went to the door in a state of undress. How would you feel if he reported you to the police?

Give your head a wobble. State of undress for having a few extra buttons undone? Nothing from the OP's posts indicate that her boobs were hanging out FFS. (Plus she'd told him to just leave it on the doorstep and he did not.)

I went out in a fitted tank top this morning sans bra to put my rubbish in the bin. If anyone had commented on my boobs only they would have been in the wrong. Not me.

It really is incredible victim blaming.

Alsohuman · 05/07/2020 14:21

Of course it can. How will anyone ever know whether or not a report is followed up?

Justcallmebebes · 05/07/2020 14:23

DAILY MAIL AND SUN ARE FACIST SCUM
That's hilarious

crazycatgal · 05/07/2020 14:24

You should report him.

His employer will decide what to do, it's not on you if he gets sacked.

acatcalledjohn · 05/07/2020 14:24

Both are inappropriate. Unless you think casually harassing customers is ever acceptable.

Venue20 · 05/07/2020 14:27

Ah now surely the poor man should be allowed take your details and send you pervy texts. It's your own fault. You had no business answering the door like that leading him on. You don't expect him to control himself after that do you. I mean really. What kind of woman are you. This is a MAN. He probably has a wife and kids to feed and you want to ruin his life cos you can't dress properly.
Oh no wait. We dont live in that world any more thank fuck.
Report the pig and if gets fired he deserves it.

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 05/07/2020 14:28
  • Oh I thought people on here were up in arms because they thought the guy was sleazy and inappropriate. The complaint about data protection is one thing.*

The complaint about data protection is the main thing! He couldn't have got OP's number to send the inappropriate text to begin with if he didn't breach data protection rules.

Unless the text was about the delivery , as soon as it was sent for private purposes it became inappropriate. It's irrelevant if he called OP beautiful or ugly.

Would you be happy for staff at MNHQ to start send you random personal emails? Or staff from a supermarket? Texts from the dentist or GP? Texts from your child's teacher?

JacobReesMogadishu · 05/07/2020 14:32

He’s been “clever” enough to make his number a private number. He’ll just deny it’s him. But I think report anyway in case Theres a pattern.

FakeBrunette · 05/07/2020 14:35

Your text is highly inappropriate and unwelcome. Aside from this you have misused my personal data. If I don't receive an apology for and acknowledgement of this inappropriate behaviour by 7pm Monday, I will be contacting your Head Office.
Think carefully in future.

Or just ignore it.

I think this is an excellent way of responding to it, give him a warning and a chance to apologise before taking action that could result in his losing his job.
imsooverthisdrama · 05/07/2020 14:38

@ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble I wasn't disagreeing about the data protection. Hmm

Venue20 · 05/07/2020 14:40

It is a totally incorrect way of handling it.
He should be reported.

imsooverthisdrama · 05/07/2020 14:42

She hasn't even rang or replied to the driver to find out if it's him.
Delivery drivers usually ring when they are on their way it's it's a big item . Did he ring when on his way ?
If not then how does she know for definite you need to be certain before you complain .

Ah yes...all these modern day women having brains and not having the decency to just be quiet and thrilled for the attention. Hmm

So glad it's not longer the 1950s.

Op, could you reply and ask who it is....otherwise it could be denied. It's massively overstepping the mark and he knows it. Creep.

Why not? Everyone makes mistakes.
Venue20 · 05/07/2020 14:44

No you don't. They can do their own investigation and if its not him there won't be a problem. Argos have a dept to deal with such complaints as does every company. It's not up to the op to sort it out. She did nothing wrong.

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 05/07/2020 14:44

She hasn't even rang or replied to the driver to find out if it's him.

It's not OP's job to investigate this. She's not his employer or the ICO . She's the victim. All she has to do is report factually what she knows, provide a screenshot and then let the people that should, deal with it.

LookAtThatCritter · 05/07/2020 14:45

Having worked in a prison I'll say that the friendliest seeming ones are often the ones who committed the more offensive crimes. Being friendly & charming is part of the ploy. So please report!
