AIBU?

To get this driver fired?

DAILY MAIL AND SUN ARE FACIST SCUM

Help me think this through.

I had an Argos delivery this morning which came early while I was still in bed. I stuck my head out of the window and asked the driver to just leave it on the step and I would get it in in a bit. I thought he would leave it and drive away as others have.

I brought the baby downstairs and settled her and then went to bring the parcel in, so a couple of minutes later. I opened the door and the driver was still there. I apologised because I didn't realise he'd be waiting for me. But also cringed because I was still in my nightshirt and had been feeding Dd so it was fairly unbuttoned.

Obviously Id thought he was gone and was just grabbing parcels off my step so wasn't super bothered about dignity.

However I just got a text from a private number saying "Hi thank you for putting a big smile on my face for the rest of the day your a beautiful woman xx".

I'm really grossed out. There's noone else it could be. I'm freaking that this man knows where I live and annoyed that he has saved my number. What should I do? I don't want to lose someone their livelihood. I'd told DH how friendly he was Envy

Can I complain? Should I?

You really do not have to ruin his bloody life over a daft text message

FFS. She isn't ruining his life - he is. It was his decision to send the text. It will be that that gets him into trouble.

OP just contact Argos with the details of the text and the number that it came from (assuming that you can see the number). Then if it proves to be his number, they can take this driver through their disciplinary procedures, or pass the complaint on if the drivers are subcontracted. Sending the text was his responsibility. Whether he's sacked, or warned or whatever is up to his manager. You are not responsible for his behaviour, he is.

@haggistramp

I think getting him fired is a bit much. Both you and the driver were inappropriate. You went to the door in a state of undress. How would you feel if he reported you to the police? I'm certain if the sexes were reversed and a man answered the door in a state of undress to a female driver posters would be baying for blood. Id put it down to stupidy, both you and the driver and move on.

Wtf?! This is the most ridiculous comment. It is so ill informed you clearly have no idea what the police are for.

That’s Creepy.

But he knows where u live so I wouldn’t.

I generally don’t answer the door anymore if I’m home alone.

It seems that reporting someone for doing something wrong, is worse than doing something wrong in the first place...

I hate this. Report him OP and don't feel bad. All you're doing is reporting a confidentiality breach and inappropriate behaviour on company time, in company uniform. The only person in the wrong here is the person who did those things.

Are you sure it was definitely him? Could it be somebody texted the wrong number? Realise I'm grasping at straws but would he really risk his job over a real t???

@TinyPigeon

You didn't get a text from a private number, you got a text from an unknown number?

I know this isn't relevant but the number the text came from will be important when you report.

Report but be clear on the details. You don't know if it was the driver but you think it likely. It's a private number so I'm not sure how they will determine it was him but at least it will be on his record.

Surely they can't put something on someone's record without it being proven?

Definitely creepy and utterly inappropriate.

I'd report.

Are you sure it’s him! Can you store the number on your phone then start a what’s app convo , don’t sent anything, but see if you can see his pic?

It’s inappropriate but I’m not sure I’d complain. He likely thought he was being nice and possibly would just be told not to do it again.

On the other hand, you don’t know what he will do if he is indeed fired, he could target you.

Personally I’d not bother because I can’t be arsed with possible hassle.

"Could easily have been a pervy neighbour to be fair."

So on the same day that she opens the door to a delivery driver wearing a nightie she gets a message from a withheld number saying she 'made his day' and you think that wasn't the deliverly driver?

Sure. Sure.

I hope you report him. Imagine if he routinely does this and 9/10 of the recipients feel too ashamed and embarrassed to do anything about it.

Those of you who think the OP is wrong for threatening to report him, why are you so quick to dismiss this level of disgusting lewd behaviour from certain types of men towards women?

Why is your bar set so low?

Would you still be ok with this if the person on the receiving end was your daughter or granddaughter? Shock

Jesus fucking Christ can people not understand it's very wrong to use customers details for private purposes? Have none of you heard of GDPR?

That's without the slimy message and the vulnerability of other women/OP.

What a sick fuck. In general no one seems to be following the contact free deliveries anymore and it’s infuriating.

You should never have been put in the position you were, report him and he better get the sack. In fact, he should definitely be charged with something.

I think the GDPR issue is far more serious than calling someone a beautiful woman to be honest.

Huh? Confused

Clearly I meant the pervy neighbour saw her take the parcel in.

All the male apologists on here are disgusting. You should be ashamed of how dad back you are bending just to say it wasn’t his fault or he shouldn’t be fired etc.

WorraLiberty Why on earth have you invented a pervy neighbour and trying to say it wasn’t the clearly creepy delivery driver who didn’t move away from the ops door like he was told to?

Report
NotAGirl · 05/07/2020 13:53

Report then it's up to his employer. He will have been clearly told not to use customer numbers for anything other than arranging delivery. He's only likely to get a warning on a first offence, if it isn't a first offence and he's sacked it is his behaviour and his own fault

If no one reports they don't get the message this is unacceptable behaviour

I actually haven't. My posts are out of context now and I can't be bothered to scroll back and put it right Grin

But basically, a few of us have asked the OP if any neighbours have her number, as there may be a tiny chance one of them spotted her taking in the parcel and then sent the text.

Not that it would be a reason to not contact Argos, as it could still be the driver.

It’s so depressing that so many women have been conditioned to not make a fuss, be polite, don’t upset the menfolk, he may get fired..Etc. It’s so wrong and part of a bigger picture that excuses wolfwhistling, boys being boys, leering and all that other bullshit that would take an age to list.

Report it, it’s completely inappropriate.

But then again, I'm old and all this 'modern day' being offended does my head in. Get him sacked?? FFS?
