To report this person to their employer for hate speech?

I've attached a screenshot - I am not friends with this person. She does however display her work on social media and she is in her uniform with her lanyard on display in her profile picture and in other photos which are accessible to the public.

It's NHS Values Week and I feel very strongly that if you're going to publically display your workplace you need to be responsible in not making such racist and hateful comments.

I called her out on it and the post has now been deleted.

AIBU to call the HR department and complain, or should I leave it and hope that she thinks carefully before she posts in future?

Agree @TooTrueToBeGood and @HoofWankingSpangleCunt

These types of threads are generally really quite upsetting by the number of posters who think racism is fine.

You are no better shit stirring on here.

YgritteSnow · 03/07/2020 21:54

No one thinks racism is "fine" but I have just never been convinced that threatening and terrorising people with job and reputation loss and their entire life imploding is the best way to educate them and force them to change their opinions. You just drive it underground, you don't change it.

Umm I'm not white and neither are my family. I still dont want to live in a totalitarian regime. The best cure for racism is generally lots of exposure. I would rather engage with people and challenge their views than ruin their lives because they offend me. That's what's wonderful about living in a democracy, you are not constantly looking over your shoulder and you have free speech. Racism is awful but you cant cancel it away or you just force it underground.

donquixotedelamancha · 03/07/2020 21:55

You're racism apologists pure and simple, and that almost certainly means you are racists yourselves.

This. Anyone who doesn't support finding this woman's details and trying to get her sacked clearly believes that thee colour of someone's skin determines their character and value. There is no other possible explanation.

It's not enough to despise the comment and think OP was right to criticise it- you must want the woman burned sacked or you are as guilty as she.

MitziK · 03/07/2020 21:57

There's just been a report demonstrating that racism on the part of HCPs is contributing to the increased death toll in BAME Covid patients.

The NHS terms on social media are crystal fucking clear.

Definitely send HR a screenshot. Nobody wants a prick like that working with them.

FleetsumNJetsum · 03/07/2020 21:57

Exactly, lockdown I repeat, "Democracy is all we got, at the mo. It isn't pretty sometimes. We try to change things for the better but not with attack dogs." And I don't want to live in a totalitarian regime either.

DocusDiplo · 03/07/2020 21:57

I wonder if people would react differently if it was anti semitic or homophobic. I'm asking this as there are some Really odd views here dismissing racism as an "opinion".

Having prejudice towards people who are of a different race is really scummy thinking. What makes you think they're not British & that you can just kick them out?!

I would only report if I knew the person or their other actions were insidious too. Not because it's OK but Im a bit lazy.

I think people are catastrophising the situation. She will probably just be warned, shown the social media policy and sent away. Would be nice if they educated her too. Dumb woman.

donquixotedelamancha · 03/07/2020 21:59

The best protection for minorites is a powerful benevolent state enforcing strict limits on free speech, supported by aggressive action from concerned citizens (the right kind of citizens, obviously). When did free expression ever do anything to defeat racism? Only Nazi's oppose totalitarianism these days.

Northernsoullover · 03/07/2020 22:00

I was quite shocked to find out recently how many of my Facebook 'friends' were closet racists. I've deleted them. None were quite as blatant as this woman and I'm shocked to see how many people here think this is actually ok. Its not ok and I would report it.

Longingtolearn · 03/07/2020 22:03

Violated work policy and with such views in her work place this could be affecting professional decisions.

I'd report to the hr, its their decision how they handle it.

She really shouldn't have her details so public.

SoulofanAggron · 03/07/2020 22:04

YABU. People shouldn't lose their jobs for having an opinion.

It sounds like the thing she's posting is probably fake news, but she believed it was true. If some people are going to keep a factory running regardless of COVID risk if it's deemed a danger/illegal, then they're awful. People could die as a result. I would rather some unethical arseholes were thrown out of the country than innocent people die.

AnnaBanana333 · 03/07/2020 22:04

I'd report if I thought anything would come of it. I'm white so this racist would probably be fine with me in her care, but I know I wouldn't want to be treated by a misogynist or a homophobe.

Sewrainbow · 03/07/2020 22:05

If you work for the NHS you can be held accountable for your social media posts and it can be disciplinary offence. All trusts have a social media policy, she should be very careful what she posts.

KitKat2020 · 03/07/2020 22:05

Report it, most definitely. It’s then up to HR to decide if she had broken a code of conduct.

There are professional codes of conducts for people working in professions such has Education and Health Care.

For those posters saying leave it, how would you feel if your child was a POC or an immigrant and this was a comment their class teacher made?

donquixotedelamancha · 03/07/2020 22:06

how would you feel if your child was a POC or an immigrant and this was a comment their class teacher made?

This. A hastily deleted comment about an article is exactly the same as abusing a child.

Marpan · 03/07/2020 22:07

I mean if you don’t know her or follow her, why are you so obsessed.

BertiesLanding · 03/07/2020 22:08

I like the cut of your jib, @donquixotedelamancha
Mooballs · 03/07/2020 22:11

Seriously? Of course it is relevant to their workplace. Report.

EnoughAlready2020 · 03/07/2020 22:12

Gosh this thread really does demonstrate how racism is rife in society. It's not even hidden.

In my contract I have to sign up to a code of contact regarding social media use and what I say on my personal social media platforms. In this country you can NOT say whatever you like - in actual fact there's lots of things you can say which will see you arrested.

Everyone who is saying they are entitled to their own personal opinion when it comes to this topic are very wrong.

Everyone is happy that her job shouldn't be at risk but happy to throw the guy out of the country! Wtaf.

Report, report, report.

Weetabixandcrumpets · 03/07/2020 22:13

You called her out on it and she deleted her post,
If you think she should lose her job and possibly more and that would make her a better person, then I suppose that is your call.
Yes racism is terrible, but has everyone forgotten that people are human and we have all been known to say bloody stupid things which we later regret? Sometimes everyone is an idiot and witch hunts can lead to suicide.

CalmYoBadSelf · 03/07/2020 22:14

@YgritteSnow

No. You don't ruin people's whole lives and prevent them from providing for themselves and their families for one comment.

I used to really wonder how people could inform on their neighbours and friends in authoritarian regimes, couldn't really comprehend how that dynamic played out. I feel like I am watching it creep in right before my very eyes now.

Absolutely
InThisMultiverse · 03/07/2020 22:15

The HCP would be unlikely to lose her job, but rather be sent on some diversity training.
