To report this person to their employer for hate speech?

I've attached a screenshot - I am not friends with this person. She does however display her work on social media and she is in her uniform with her lanyard on display in her profile picture and in other photos which are accessible to the public.

It's NHS Values Week and I feel very strongly that if you're going to publically display your workplace you need to be responsible in not making such racist and hateful comments.

I called her out on it and the post has now been deleted.

AIBU to call the HR department and complain, or should I leave it and hope that she thinks carefully before she posts in future?

To report this person to their employer for hate speech?

Report her? Why?
Leicester is on lockdown and people are not closing their places of work! The spike is probably the consequences of their actions. People will probably die because these people won't close. You want to report someone for a comment but think it's acceptable for businesses to operate through a pandemic? FFS!

mum2b2017 · 03/07/2020 20:58

@StoorieHoose its comments like this why action against individuals is needed
Saying a font is worse than racism is disgusting

Gobb · 03/07/2020 20:58

No, she does not need to lose her livelihood for expressing an opinion you don't like. If she works for the NHS, maybe she had a terrible day, maybe she watched people die. We all make mistakes, and saying one comment on social media is not the worst mistake in the world. Also, she may have family members dependent on her. I don't like her comment either, but I like yours even less OP.

TaxTheRatFarms · 03/07/2020 20:59

If the person in question works for, for example, the nhs or is a teacher, I would absolutely report this to their employers. A person with opinions like this shouldn’t be in a position of care of people they think they can “kick out of the country”.

Also surprised by the number of people who think it’s fine to be casually racist in public (as social media under your own name and photo is public) as long as you’re not at work. Hmm

@Fosler when did i say i wanted the business to continue operating? they have been caught and will face the consequences of their actions She should be reported as she should not be in a healthcare profession when she has those kind of views. Especially when she is so blatant to state them online
FelicityBeedle · 03/07/2020 21:01

She will have agreed to a social media policy, she expressed the views anyway in flagrant disregard of that. There are POC in this country worried to access health services because of bigots like her. Absolutely report her OP.

All those saying it doesn’t affect her job, if she can say something like that in public she will definitely have a bias in her work

Thisismytimetoshine · 03/07/2020 21:02

@Snorkers

Also, who put you in charge of what people post on social media? You are part of a massive problem with society right now. Get your sticky beak out of it.
People feeling free to post that shit on a public platform is the problem with society right now Hmm
TaxTheRatFarms · 03/07/2020 21:02

“these people” = factory owners?
Hmm.

“Factory owners are responsible for the increase in cases of COVID, so we should kick factory owners out of the country.”

Doesn’t really work, does it?

PolloDePrimavera · 03/07/2020 21:02

I think the fact that she is representing the nhs on her profile picture and is then making comments like this, is certainly questionable. If she were not showing any connection, then I think that would be different. Is there something else about her which you aren't keen on?

Coldemort · 03/07/2020 21:02

I would report and let her do her own explaining. If you're not friends with her then this has been posted to 'public' for any patients/cluents/students (which ever is applicable) to see.

Gizmo79 · 03/07/2020 21:03

And I know a lot of people who don’t like the people come into contact with in a professional manner but still provide an excellent service regardless. When at work they are professional, end of. I think some people here don’t understand that. It is very possible to provide an excellent service to anyone - let’s face it, people do that everyday, just because this person apparently may be a healthcare worker we have to run to HR to what end? What would the end result be? One less HCP with an even bigger hatred?

Worstemailever · 03/07/2020 21:04

I wouldn't report to her boss. She's allowed to hold unpalatable views. I'm all for freedom of speech. At least if people open their mouths, you stand a chance of starting a conversation or a debate. If you suppress it, those views go unchallenged.

FTMF30 · 03/07/2020 21:04

So many people wanted to report neighbours for "flouting the rules" a few weeks back but not report someone who works for the NHS for being racist. Imagine being BAME and being put in her care. She probably wouldn't treat you fairly but you'd never know. Report her!

TaxTheRatFarms · 03/07/2020 21:05

@Awwlookatmybabyspider

How would you feel. If you did report her for having an opinion (and that’s all it is an opinion). She lost her job and then did the unspeakable.
How would you feel if Asian people looked at the original “kick them out of the country” comment, sank into a depression about people’s attitudes towards them and did the unspeakable?
Gizmo79 · 03/07/2020 21:05

Apologies I meant some people, not the people....

user16386689775 · 03/07/2020 21:06

I just finished reading the Starkey thread where the overwhelming majority approve of someone making racist statements being removed from their positions, and now I am reading a thread where posters are claiming another racist should be protected because she'll probably somehow no longer be racist during working hours?

What. The. Fuck.

That's not how racism works.

If an NHS worker considers certain people less human, how can any sensible person think that would not influence how they treat patients/service users in any way?

FelicityBeedle · 03/07/2020 21:07

This was public! It’s perfectly possible for one of her patients to see that comment, how would they feel then? Certainly not comfortable in her care

Notnowokay · 03/07/2020 21:07

I don’t think it is right to punish her twice for the same mistake. If you have the time and energy wait until she does/ says something similar and then get her her employer know.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/07/2020 21:08

I take your point, Tax.
However that would be on her for expressing that opinion, though wouldn’t it. You can’t hold me to account for some one else’s views that I certainly don’t share

HeresMe · 03/07/2020 21:10

Everything is report, report, these days the Stasi in East Germany did it by fear now people want to report.

I wanting the OP to lose their job because they are that hateful they are wanting others to, see that isn't nice is it.

Nicolastuffedone · 03/07/2020 21:11

Report.

@Notnowokay when was she punished the first time? in what other scenario would we brush the issue under the carpet ‘just incase’ it happens again? Would we say this to about a bully? An anti-semitic remark? A mugger? No we wouldnt. But being racist is a free for all these days
FelicityBeedle · 03/07/2020 21:13

@Notnowokay How have they been punished already? Having to delete a comment isn’t punishment
