The media coverage almost seems to encourage people to relax the lockdown and have a blow out!
So I'm wondering....
YABU = off out, need to let off steam.
YANBU = staying safe at home, there's a pandemic.

Anyone else being given the impression we are being encouraged here?

whether getting on with it leads to the inevitable second wave

A second wave isn’t inevitable. We won’t be going out regardless.

MadisonAvenue · 03/07/2020 13:07

Not a chance.

Whoknowswhocares · 03/07/2020 13:12

Not worried about the virus but no, absolutely no chance.
It sounds like a complete pain in the arse, rather than a leisure activity.

LuckyBitches · 03/07/2020 13:16

I'll be going round to a friend's for dinner. The pub sounds like hell, I'm not worried so much about the virus as the zombie apocalypse it's bound to be. There's an open air bar near me, that spills on the next street. Very animalistic shrieks and bellows at all hours, on all days of the week. I will be keeping a low profile on Saturday.

Flynn999 · 03/07/2020 13:18

Sober people seem incapable of washing their hands and social distancing. I doubt drunk people are going to be any better.

I haven’t missed pubs being open.

loobyloo1234 · 03/07/2020 13:20

People in this country are so obsessed with a second wave. Strange

Bars and Restaurants have re-opened in France, Spain and Italy. Some time ago aswell. Alas, no second wave. So far.

JaceLancs · 03/07/2020 13:21

No - I wouldn’t normally go out on a Saturday night anyway

GinnyStrupac · 03/07/2020 13:22

No, there will be too many Covidiots about, even in our naice rural area, and especially now the holiday lets and hotels are opening.

Anyway, home schooling = home drinking.

Ughmaybenot · 03/07/2020 13:23

I’m going to a friends house for a bbq with a few others. Haven’t seen them since lockdown began so I’m very much looking forward to it.

my2bundles · 03/07/2020 13:28

No. I have kids to look after and even if I could go I wouldn't.

Bumble84 · 03/07/2020 13:37

No I won’t be going out. I also wonder if people realise that the guidelines dictate that you are not to go to the pub/restaurant/cafe with more than two households. So meeting up at a table with 3 of your best friends isn’t allowed.

DiscontinuedModelHusband · 03/07/2020 13:37

Bars and Restaurants have re-opened in France, Spain and Italy. Some time ago aswell. Alas, no second wave. So far.

drinking culture in the uk vs those countries is very different though.
there isn't the mad rush to get as pissed as possible as quickly as possible.

so it's likely social distancing behaviours are more consistently adhered to.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 03/07/2020 13:44

No, there will be too many Covidiots about

Hmm
loobyloo1234 · 03/07/2020 13:45

Check out the videos posted all over social media of those countries @DiscontinuedModelHusband - especially Paris. People are practically sat on top of each other in restaurants

I'm not going out this weekend but to say there will def be a second wave here is complete paranoia. Especially as I dont know a single person who has booked a table anywhere. I doubt even 5% of the UK will be in bars/restaurants this weekend

LazyFace · 03/07/2020 13:56

No f.ing way. I miss eating out but even a trip to the shops is stressful with everybody creeping up on me. I wish I could walk in one of those big blow up balls people roll off hills in.

Pelleas · 03/07/2020 13:57

I'm staying in in.

Crunchymum · 03/07/2020 13:57

It's a no here too.

Mainly due to fact I'm old, have young kids and go out probably once every few months at the most.

I'll stick to a few glasses of red and a take away.

I have just received a group invite for a drink in 2 weeks time, not feeling it at all (not least as the pub doesn't have any outdoor space??)

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 03/07/2020 14:00

Like someone said on here .... the last thing I'm worried about is covid infection.

Pre booking , giving all your details out , ordering on apps and sitting behind perspex is not my idea of fun !

userxx · 03/07/2020 14:02

Yes and I can't bloody wait!!!!

Singinghollybob · 03/07/2020 14:03

I'm going to a local bar where we have a table booked and have a few drinks and food. The bars and restaurants near us have vastly reduced the capacity and its table service/bookings only so I dont expect it to be manically heaving anywhere.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 03/07/2020 14:03

No, I'm not that desperate. And it's going to rain.

QuestionableMouse · 03/07/2020 14:04

I'm staying home.

Mind I'm not one for pubs in general though.

LakieLady · 03/07/2020 14:05

We live in a small town that has 15 or more pubs (down from 24!), a hotel and two social clubs.

I reckon it will be awash with pissheads tomorrow and that they'll start early. No way am I going out.

We've got a table booked for Sunday lunch at a really nice village pub though.

TheQueef · 03/07/2020 14:06

Downing Street have announced they are helpfully allowing 6am opening.........
Why do they want us to go on a bender? Confused
