a delicious meat free burger that tastes as good as my favourite cheeseburger / bigmac

Except it won't. They never do.

ReasonablyUnreasonable · 02/07/2020 16:27

@EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire Stuff 'em! Everyone needs junk food in their lives! Your meal sounded bloody perfect!

You are so right, I think we are presumed to be these individuals who put ourselves onto moral pedestals. We must complain about anything that isn't grown in a vegetable patch...

I've been vege my whole life, purely because I prefer my animals alive! Having said that, as a child I ate fish until one day I saw some little fish swimming around in their aquarium... we were about to go home and eat a tuna bake. I haven't eaten fish since Grin

Runssometimes · 02/07/2020 16:34

I’m veggie, haven’t been to MacDonald’s in 30 years. Don’t care if they do a meat free burger or not, still wouldn’t go. They are a very ethically suspect company. Won’t be eating at KFC despite their meat free range either. Also they smell disgusting.

WaffleCash · 02/07/2020 16:42

I'm actually ridiculously pleased that McDonalds now do a vegan option - the veggie dippers. Not because I'm vegan, or even vegetarian but because it's a gluten free option.

Fries and veggie dippers are both vegan approved.

fadedout · 02/07/2020 16:54

I would love for them to make a veggie burger, like a Linda McCartney but a Big Mac! Would love it!

TheGroak · 02/07/2020 16:56

I used to quite enjoy their old style veggie deluxe.

TLIMSISNW · 02/07/2020 16:59

I’m baffled by people who say that they don’t understand why vegetarians would like something resembling meat. Just because someone doesn’t eat meat in moral grounds, doesn’t mean they don’t enjoy the taste.

Seems pretty obvious to me.

TLIMSISNW · 02/07/2020 16:59

Oh and YANBU.

Bibidy · 02/07/2020 17:17

I am! I'm vegetarian and would love McDonalds to have a good veg burger option. They're way behind the times with the mushed up veg stuff they do atm.

Ohtherewearethen · 02/07/2020 17:18

@TLIMSISNW - I can only speak from my own experience but I don't like it because it 'resembles' meat. Except it doesn't actually taste like meat. It's a weird, artificial, unrecognisable texture and taste. I'd rather just gave something made from vegetables/pulses/cheese whatever rather than heavily processed fake meats that are still nothing like actual meat

bethg21 · 02/07/2020 17:21

its a bloody burger restaurant!!! burgers are meat !

TheGroak · 02/07/2020 17:22

Bloody hell! Where did Captain Obvious spring up from Hmm

Peacocking · 02/07/2020 17:22

Absolutely. I would bloody love them to bring out a proper animal free burger. We make amazing Beyond Meat BK style meals at home, but it would be so nice to pop into Mcdonalds and grab a meal like we used to. Fake meats are so good now, there's no reason to eat anything other than the suffering free and climate friendlier version.

rwoollsey · 02/07/2020 17:23

Yanbu

Not sure why anyone would say not to bother

The rebel burger in BK should have put some fire up their backsides but it's not

kikisparks · 02/07/2020 17:26

Yanbu but ask for it to be vegan- didn’t understand BK’s veggie option that was otherwise vegan but with non vegan mayo, they’re losing a chunk of their target market!

Pinkblueberry · 02/07/2020 17:26

I’m not a vegan or vegetarian, but still only have a McDonalds maybe two or three times a year, if that. I know some people who don’t ever eat there at all - don’t like the menu, don’t go, why is going there such a must that having numerous vegan/vegetarian options is so essential?

Peacocking · 02/07/2020 17:27

People asking why a vegan would buy from mcdonalds- the only way to affect change is to support products and companies that are providing meat alternatives. That's how they'll invest money in the products and how the options will continually improve. To the poster above that works for mcdonalds and said they sell almost no veggie options, thats because their options are so pathetic that veggies and vegans tend to avoid mcdonalds. Its not a true reflection. KFC and BK are selling meat free products really well.

cheesemongery · 02/07/2020 17:27

@Cadent

The Quorn Sausage Rolls are sooooo much nicer than Greggs' vegan sausage rolls.
Lots of quorn products contain egg though (all used to) so I'm not sure if they are comparable.

On another note, many an hour spent sat in McDs with friends enjoying a spicy bean burger - in the olden days before quorn, and cheat meat, so if you wanted veggie, you got vegetables or soya protein. Of course it's okay to shape it into a patty - you want the same, something you can pick up in your hands, with a bread bun that has some salad and sauce in - ie a burger!

Get this though - does anybody remember McDs pizza? I think they only trialled it in a few places... out with the bean burger, in with the margherita - I still think it is one of the tastiest pizzas I've ever tasted. I got looked at though like I was stupid in another town when asking if they did pizza!

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 02/07/2020 17:30

I've defected to Burger King since becoming veggie. I love a Halloumi burger! ( I turn a bling eye to cooking it in animal fat, sorry)

Pinkblueberry · 02/07/2020 17:35

People asking why a vegan would buy from mcdonalds- the only way to affect change is to support products and companies that are providing meat alternatives.

I don’t see how this works. Those who would usually eat meat won’t go for the vegan option instead. The additional costumers who are vegan are simply adding support and cash to a company that uses huge quantities of meat worldwide. Vegans will be doing McDonalds a great favour financially but I fail to see how less animals will be used and killed as a result.

Davodia · 02/07/2020 17:36

They don’t even do an allergen free option for people who need it, never mind a meat free option for people who want it.

Bibidy · 02/07/2020 17:39

Those who would usually eat meat won’t go for the vegan option instead.

Some people actually do though. I'm vegetarian but I have a couple of meat-eating friends who choose vegetarian/vegan options in order to cut their meat intake. It would be nice if we could get to a point where non-meat options are just another choice on the menu rather than something stuck on as an afterthought for vegetarians (which McD's options often feel like).

Peacocking · 02/07/2020 17:42

Bibidy, nicely put.

TLIMSISNW · 02/07/2020 17:45

burgers are meat

Burgers are a food shape no? Beef burger. Chicken burger. Bean burger.
