Veggie Deluxe - Yum!

funinthesun19 · 01/07/2020 23:19

Cetado It definitely did pre lockdown! I had one a few days before McDonald’s closed its doors.

DressingGownofDoom · 01/07/2020 23:20

@Crankley

No thanks. I've never understood why non meat eaters want their food to resemble meat. Seems strange to me.

I'm not even a vegetarian and I'm sick of hearing this. It's incredibly obvious that a lot of people like the taste of meat but don't eat it because of ethical issues.

FlamedToACrisp · 01/07/2020 23:21

The trouble is, it wouldn't be delicious and just like a real burger. It would be another disappointing non-treat.

Howyiz · 01/07/2020 23:22

No! Their big mac without meat is all I ever need! Smile

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 01/07/2020 23:22

The one that winds me up is when people complain that the veggie burger is burger shaped 😳

Cos its easier to cook you muppet

Its not as if beef burgers come in the shape of a cow!

RedSoloCup · 01/07/2020 23:23

Yanbu love a veggie whopper from bk I'm not actually vegetarian but I like to know what's in my food 🥘

okiedokieme · 01/07/2020 23:23

They have a veggie burger and veggie wrap already

eandz13 · 01/07/2020 23:23

I'd love one that actually tasted of something, yeah, their veggie options are crap. I'm a meat eater but I do fancy a veggie option now and again.

nevermorelenore · 01/07/2020 23:24

The spicy veggie wrap is nice. It has salsa and jalapenos. But I don't think it's on the limited menu.

To be honest, if I'm doing a veggie day then McDonalds is pretty low on my list of places to go.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 01/07/2020 23:24

YANBU - I’m a meat eater but will have the veggie option if it looks good. If I have breakfast at McD I have the egg/cheese McMuffin instead of the sausage one. If I’m feeling indulgent I’ll have the pancakes 😆 Same with a hotel brekkie, tend to have everything but the sausage/bacon
I would definitely try a veggie McD burger. In fact, I’ve been veggie today through choice, although not had any fast food
However, I don’t think anything will put me off their chicken nuggets combined with their bbq sauce 🤤

QuestionableMouse · 01/07/2020 23:24

No.

McDonald's sells hardly any veggie items. I work for them and on a normal shift I might put two or three through the till. Fish is the same - we sell hardly any.

I'd support a more varied veggie range but it doesn't sell and that's the key point - they're not going to spend millions developing a product just for it to fail.

Veggie goujons are cooked separately from the chicken items (they go in a fry vat) and there are separate tools to handle them.

LynetteScavo · 01/07/2020 23:25

YANBU

I think vegans can only have chips and apple pie at McDonalds,so they need to get with the times.

I always have a filet o fish, but a vegetarian burger would make a nice change.

squeekums · 01/07/2020 23:26

like the taste of meat but don't eat it because of ethical issues

If its for ethics, why they eating at maccas in the first place?

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 01/07/2020 23:27

@covetingthepreciousthings

The veggie options at McDonald's are disappointing and I agree it would be good if they did as a vegetarian who misses quarter pounders and McMuffins HOWEVER I also feel if you're vegetarian / vegan for ethical reasons McDonald's possibly isn't the best place to dine..
This.

McDonald's ingredients are all listed on their website and the back of the tray liners.

There's nothing hidden in the UK food - the chicken is just chicken, the beef is just beef... It's just food.

It's also all supplied by UK/Irish farms.

I absolutely understand and appreciate this point

But as the mother of three mcdonalds fans and the wife of one...sometimes needs must

1Morewineplease · 01/07/2020 23:33

Fake meat is so much more processed than real meat. Yes I get that meat production produces methane and endless crops go into their food consumption but considerably more deforestation is taking place in order to satisfy the burgeoning vegan meal substitutes eg soya, TVP, fungus etc...
Just eat veggie food... don’t eat very highly processed meat replications that have more red warning labels than a meat burger.

Longdistance · 01/07/2020 23:33

The best veggie burger I ever had was made with beetroot. I’m not veggie and neither is dh, but he had a taste and was smacking his lips at it. I don’t think beetroot is an expensive ingredient to use tbh.

Ellabella222 · 01/07/2020 23:36

You can get the GF buns in Europe.

AnnaFiveTowns · 01/07/2020 23:37

Yanbu. They need to move with the times; their veggie stuff is poor.

To the PP who cant understand why vegans want to eat something that looks like meat: the reason why I want to eat something that resembles meat is because I grew up eating meat and so acquired a taste for it. Now, however, the thought of what it actually is (a dead animal) disgusts me; the way the animals are bred and killed also disgusts me. But I still like the taste of meat. I dont get why some people find this concept so difficult to understand.

Whitepriv · 01/07/2020 23:38

Would be here for McDonald’s veggie burger (not bean burger bleh)

percypig · 01/07/2020 23:42

I understand the desire of some vegetarians to be able to get fake meat products, and I think that developing more ‘tastes like’ burgers etc could be the key to reducing overall meat consumption and thus improving the environment. However spare a thought for those of us who love vegetables and have no desire to eat cake meat. I’ve been a vegetarian (or pseudo vegetarian according to some people because I eat dairy products including Parmesan) for almost 30 years and have been a little frustrated recently that so many of the new vegetarian and vegan options available in supermarkets ape meat products instead of being creative with the literally dozens of different vegetables and pulses they could use.

Rewis · 01/07/2020 23:43

I think McD does a cost analysis for this and it might not make sense for them to expand to more vegetarian options. I also don't think every restaurant needs to cater towards everyone. But I'm not by any means against this so go ahead and campaign, I hope for the best. And if this burger arrives to my local McD, I'll give it a try.
