No

Gulabjamoon · 02/07/2020 10:20

@HavingAMoan Just googled and apparently the McDonald’s Apple Pie is vegan as it’s dairy and egg free!

That’s going to piss of all the ‘vegetarians/vegans stay in your box type’ people here Grin

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 02/07/2020 10:21

Yes their apple pie is dairy free (and vegan!).

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 02/07/2020 10:21

The funny thing about some of these posts is that a few posters seem to be saying that a vegetarian or vegan should not be in a restaurant that serves meat and should go to veggie ones

But I’ll guarantee that if i started a thread saying that i made my children eat only at veggie restaurants when they are meat eaters that people would be up in arms

I’d probably get reported to social services

Although i may be exaggerating a bit...maybe its more that those people are suggesting that a vegan should never eat anything out of the house with their families

Housewoes23 · 02/07/2020 10:25

Don't want to kill an animal but like the taste, don't be thick on purpose
coriander 'Dont be thick on purpose ' is my new go to phrase! I was getting bored of 'don't play dumb!'.
gulabja they'll probably, having eaten them all along be now like 'eeew! I'm not eating that!' Wink

I'm impressed with the closeness in poll figures too.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 02/07/2020 10:27

Some apple pies sold in supermarkets are vegan as well.

Ohtherewearethen · 02/07/2020 10:28

I'm not at all suggesting that vegans should only be allowed to eat in vegan restaurants. I just find it surprising that so many are keen to support McDonald's and want them to offer vegan options so they can patronise them more often and support them even further. To me it would be like going to the butcher's to buy vegetables when there is a greengrocer down the road.

Yup people are very weird about vegan food.
MarkRuffaloCrumble · 02/07/2020 10:30

Not for me, but DS and his GF are both veggies and would love a few more options at McDs. Wagamama etc have loads of good veggie options and McD need to catch up.

It has already been explained several times why a vegan might find themselves in McDonalds.

And McDonald's has done vegan food for years. Their fries and applie pies are vegan as are their veggie goujons.

MummytoCSJH · 02/07/2020 10:31

Dairy and most meats make me really ill. Not everyone is veggie or vegan for ethical reasons. Would be very happy if mcds had better options.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 02/07/2020 10:33

And nobody has explained how a vegan eating at McDonalds is worse than one eating anywhere else that mostly sells animal products.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 02/07/2020 10:37

Apple pies not applie...

Missillusioned · 02/07/2020 10:38

@Crankley

No thanks. I've never understood why non meat eaters want their food to resemble meat. Seems strange to me.
Since when do burgers resemble joints of meat? A burger is just a shaped patty of food, conveniently shaped to place in a bun. It's not inherently meat based.
ChangeThePassword · 02/07/2020 10:39

Apparantly they have a really good vegan burger in Germany, Sweden and other European countries.

I don't know why they can't offer that here too. They used to have a veggie burger that I enjoyed, but they scrapped that in favour of those bog awful goujon things. To be fair, I didn't eat there often, but now I never do.

PeanuttyButter · 02/07/2020 10:40

While your at it ask them to provide gluten free buns. In Europe you can order a gluten free burger but not here in the UK. I feel sorry for DH because when we go on holiday I'm always looking for the nearest McDs to get my annual fix

yellowsunset · 02/07/2020 10:41

@anon5000

McDonalds is a burger restaurant so YABU.
Burger doesn't necessarily equal meat. The logic of people on this site 😂.
HavingAMoan · 02/07/2020 10:44

Thanks for the confirmation about apple pies!

Can I point out again, that some of us have dairy free children so having vegan options is really useful.

Housewoes23 · 02/07/2020 10:50

havingamoan along with that, McDonald's appeals to the teen market, a lot of whom are vegan compared to older people as they've grown up in a more developed society. It would be nice for them too

CluelessBaker · 02/07/2020 10:54

I also find it odd that anyone against the meat industry wants to eat something that tastes and has the texture of meat. The whole mmm tastes like dead chicken but isn’t thing.

Why do you find this weird? Is it stupidity or are you trolling?

CluelessBaker · 02/07/2020 11:00

Also, can people please stop acting like there are convenient, vegan-only restaurants on every street corner in the U.K.? I live in a major city and there is at most a handful of places catering exclusively to vegans. The vast majority of restaurants offer meat / dairy products etc as well.

The truth is, vegans have to give their money to establishments which sell non-vegan food if they want to be able to eat out and socialise with others. Whether that’s McDonalds / a local steakhouse / marks and spencer / pizza express is pretty irrelevant. The best we can hope for is encouraging these restaurants and shops to stock decent vegan options. And the more we buy these options, the more of a market there is for them, and so the more widely available they become. That might encourage people who think it’s too inconvenient to go vegan to believe otherwise.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 02/07/2020 11:04

I was trying to explain to my dad why i didnt trust the supermarket with substitutes

I ordered quorn mince and they didnt have it so they suggested Quorn scotch eggs 😳

And he said well its all quorn isnt it

And i said ...so if you were cooking a chilli and wanted mince...you’d be happy if they sent you scotch eggs

And he said...no but it’s different cos all quorn is the same 😳

It got quite heated to be honest...he also didn’t understand my meat as essential shopping point either 😀

I think if I mention anything meaty he disengages and starts thinking about what he wants for his tea 😀

ReasonablyUnreasonable · 02/07/2020 11:04

Amused that meat eaters seem to think that their burgers come out of animals looking like burgers...

Why shouldn't my veggie burger look like yours? I don't see many burger-shaped cows out in the meadow!

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 02/07/2020 11:06

He also says he likes vegetarian food...he’ll quite often add a chop 😳

Iwalkinmyclothing · 02/07/2020 11:09

The latest version of a McDonalds's veggie burger is absolutely vile so YANBU at all. Their last veggie burger wasn't a patch on the Burger King one (yes yes I know the BK one isn't vegetarian approved due to cooking methods) but it was at least OK. These horrid crappy pesto goujons in a bun they do now are just horrible, literally the worst McDonalds product I have ever tried.

Grin at the meat eaters baffled by people wanting nice non meat products getting all upset upthread, you people are so funny.
