This would be a dream. I've often thought of ordering a cheeseburger without the burger in a drive through and putting in a quorn burger at home

There was a thing online about someone ordering a cheeseburger online for delivery. They wanted it plain, so they deselected all the extras. When it was delivered they discovered they ordered it without the bun and without the burger, so they just got a slice of cheese...

@BlueMoonRising - No, I am not deliberately twisting anything. My point is, why insist on going to a beef/chicken burger restaurant if you don't like eating anything there? If you are anti smoking then don't visit a tobacconist. Supermarkets sell all sorts, not just meat products. Also most restaurants, they sell a range of meat/veggie/vegan products. Going to what is traditionally known as a meatburger restaurant (and makes most of its money from meat) when you don't like anything there, and you disagree with how they make their money then why go? It's you that is deliberately misunderstanding.
As an aside, you say that there is money to be made from vegan fast food and the demand is there, so why are McDonald's employees on this very thread saying that the demand and money isn't there, and where are all these vegan fast food restaurants? Why aren't they popping up everywhere?

BlueMoonRising · 02/07/2020 21:45

I just read today about a chicken place in London, who's vegan option is so popular that they are opening an entirely vegan restaurant.

The demand is there. The issue is (as its quite clear on this thread) that the mcdonald's option is so bad that very few people would choose to buy it.

Not all people that don't eat meat do so because they fundamentally disagree with eating meat. So your perception of why they shouldn't put their money towards one is based on an argument that is not true for all. For some people it's their own health, or they just don't really enjoy meat.

Why do you have such a big issue around people wanting something better from a place that is everywhere, relatively cheap and convenient?

Its not like people are making demands, suggesting a boycott and trying to get the place closed. They want to be able to spend their money there on something that they can do better (and have done better and do better in other countries).

Either McDonalds or BK offer the Beyond Burger here in the US so don’t think it will be that long in the UK.

AnimalCrossing · 02/07/2020 21:50

Nope but I’m not a vegan/vegetarian so that’s why that is.

ChangeThePassword · 02/07/2020 21:54

BK have a plant based burger, not sure if its Beyond, but they cook it on the same grill as meat so strict vegetarians and vegans won't eat it.

McDonald's have a good vegan burger in other countries, but their offering here is pretty dire. Hopefully they will take it over here at some point.

I'm with you all the way on this OP Wine

Actually I was basing it on what a PP said upthread. They said they work in McDonald's and there isn't the demand, and therefore the money making potential, for the meat-free options.

What does that have to do with you saying their money goes towards slaughterhouses?

I addressed the point about why macdonalds don't sell much of their vegan options. Greggs on the other hand have had a major boost in profits that they have put down to theirs. There is money in meat free when it's done right.

HavingAMoan · 02/07/2020 22:03

@EmpressLangClegSpartacus

Leon’s all the way. A whole range of decent veggie / vegan options.
My nearest Leon is 2 hours away. Not exactly convenience food.

Oh

I thought it would be more spitting it back up

Shows how my mind works

Ohtherewearethen · 02/07/2020 22:13

What does that have to do with you saying their money goes towards slaughterhouses?

I mistakenly read your comment So your perception of why they shouldn't put their money towards one as referring to why McDonald's weren't putting their money into developing a bigger meatfree range, which would explain my previous comment.

You don't eat meat for health reasons and aren't necessarily against eating meat. However, there are other people in the world, apart from you, who choose not to eat meat because of the ethical and environmental factors involved. (How do you know I'm not one of them?) I would say these people make up a larger percentage of the meat-free cohort than those who can't digest meat properly. I personally wouldn't be interested in eating in a restaurant that makes the majority of its money from selling meat products if that didn't match my beliefs and ethical code. I don't really know how much simpler I can say it I'm afraid. If you spend money at McDonald's you are supporting the meat industry. I'm not really sure how you can deny that. Although I'm sure you'll try.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 02/07/2020 22:13

Ive said it before And its probably not worth repeating but

I do not live in a vacuum. I have children that like mcdonalds i have a husband that likes macdonalds...nephews and nieces that like it...friends childrens that like it

So if as a treat any of them fancy going to mcdonalds its potentially nicer to go and eat something with them...rather than just watching

LizzyAnna99 · 02/07/2020 22:15

Yes!! I hate the veggie options at McDonald’s, I prefer fake meat rather than veg mushed together. I love the Burger King burger

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 02/07/2020 22:17

Personally im happy with fries

Veggie burger was nice and ive just had a nice bean burger from asda 😀

But doesn’t the veggie burger now come in a wrap ?

Haven’t been to micky d’s for ages

ChangeThePassword · 02/07/2020 22:18

If you spend money at McDonald's you are supporting the meat industry. I'm not really sure how you can deny that

Basic economics.

McDonald's makes a profit. Which means they don't need the income from the veggie options to subsidise the animal side of the business.

They are not going to kill more cows if they sell more vegetables. In fact, they might kill less as some meat eaters will go for good veggie options, where they won't go for bad ones.

LizzyAnna99 · 02/07/2020 22:19

@RufustheRowlingReindeer the have a veggie burger and veggie dippers, and then the veggie wrap but it’s all the same breaded veg just mushed in a different way 😂

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 02/07/2020 22:21

Thanks lizzy 😀

I obviously haven’t been paying enough attention

Love the chilli cheese bites at BK...when they do them

ALongHardWinter · 02/07/2020 22:22

I say go for it! I am not a big meat eater, but I admit I do like a Big Mac or a quarter pounder from McDs. Having said that,it would be nice to have a decent vegetarian option now and then. I really don't like their veggie burgers. But nothing with quorn in it! I can't stand the taste of the stuff and it upset my stomach the couple of times I HAVE eaten it.

BlueMoonRising · 02/07/2020 22:22

I didn't say otherwise. And every individual can choose where to spend their money themselves. If vegans and vegetarians only bought goods from places that don't sell animal products, they would be very limited for places to shop.

LizzyAnna99 · 02/07/2020 22:23

@RufustheRowlingReindeer they have only recently came out, but I really don’t like any of it so I just stick to the mozzarella sticks, fries and a coke ;) my partner and I love BK and it’s totally gonna be worth the 20 mile trip for the impossible burger, cheese bites for me, and chilli cheese bites for him! (I have the palate of a newborn - hate spice haha!)

Good grief. Have you considered an anger management course

Why?
I want what I pay for and as we usually use drive thru we would have the headfuck of having to turn around to have it fixed up or id have nothing to eat, so I'd be pissed. Its not hard to get an order right.
And no just eating it isn't an option, if I order a cheeseburger is cos that's what I want to eat.

ChangeThePassword · 03/07/2020 09:12

And no just eating it isn't an option, if I order a cheeseburger is cos that's what I want to eat.

Would you be so angry if they added more non vegan options to their menu? Say they added a lamb burger and a steak sandwich. Would you be posting on here about you don't see a need for it, and they are more likely to screw up your order?

Or is it just more options for non meat eaters that you have an issue with?

Cetado · 03/07/2020 09:12

If you're going to kick off at the drive thru person and it "not be pretty" because they got your order accidentally wrong and you have to drive through the drive thru again, the horror 🙄. Rather then just being like excuse me my order is wrong can you correct this please.

You should stick to cooking at home.
