Be quiet don't bother - yabu
Yes I would love a delicious meat free burger that tastes as good as my favourite cheeseburger / bigmac etc - yanbu

I voted YABU because McD’s veggie burger is disgusting and they’re vegan option is the disgusting patty from the veggie burger.Envy therefore I think they’re meat free option will be dire.

OTOH, BK’s Spicy BeanBurger is delicious, so I’m keen on trying the Rebel Whopper when it’s not been exposed to meat juices.

Also, I’ve noticed that Quorn cocktail sausages are delicious but give me tummy ache so I think soya products are bad for you.

Cadent · 01/07/2020 23:49

*their not they’re Blush

Rewis · 01/07/2020 23:50

maybe non-meat eaters like the taste / texture / familiarity of meat but don’t want an animal to die to satisfy the urge
This is interesting cause all the vegetarians in my family always complain about making things resemble meat and therefore get annoyed they cannot really eat veggie burgers. They are animal lovers which was a big contributor towards vegetarianism but I'm addition to that they disliked the texture and look of meat to be off putting.

HappyBumbleBee · 01/07/2020 23:52

I feel bad saying yabu - for my own personal preference though, I'd never eat a vegetarian option in McDonalds - but I would wholeheartedly support anyone else who wanted the option so yanbu too x

indemMUND · 01/07/2020 23:55

Ugh does anyone remember the quorn chicken style burgers they did? Starting to think I imagined them. After being veggie for 16 years I had just started ordering customised versions of burgers minus the meat before lockdown. I was only let down once when whoever made it filled it with enough mustard that it was floating in the wrapper. I guess they thought it was funny.
Also McDonalds should take note that veggie menu items do not need to be spicy to make up for the lack of meat Hmm

Cassilis · 01/07/2020 23:57

@Rewis your family be craycray, the supermarkets are stuffed full of veggie burgers made with veg and beans and breadcrumbs that do not resemble meat in any way. I’m tres familiar with the veggie aisle.

funinthesun19 · 01/07/2020 23:59

However spare a thought for those of us who love vegetables and have no desire to eat cake meat.

This is me! Given the option between a veggie burger and a “meat free beef burger”, I would pick the veggie burger.
I don’t like the texture and taste of meat, so I wouldn’t like a burger that resembles meat if that’s the very thing I’m trying to avoid.

I understand that for some people it’s just about ethics and that they actually quite like the taste of meat, hence the thought behind a meat free burger. Some people would really just prefer a spicy bean burger to be honest. Smile

jessstan2 · 01/07/2020 23:59

I thought McDonalds already did one. They used to - spicy bean burger I think, jolly nice it was too.

I just checked and they do this:

Also, if you've been a vegetarian for 30 years you should know that dairy products are okay... if they're vegetarian. Otherwise you're going into vegan territory. Parmesan is not vegetarian.

Cadent · 02/07/2020 00:02

@jessstan2 that’s BK. McD’s veggie burger is beyond gross.

indemMUND · 02/07/2020 00:04

@Cadent

Quorn doesn't agree with everyone, there are many people who react badly to it. Quorn is not soya though.

Cadent · 02/07/2020 00:05

Eh? percypig doesn’t say dairy products are out of bounds for vegetarians. She rightly says Parmesan is not vegetarian:

I’ve been a vegetarian (or pseudo vegetarian according to some people because I eat dairy products including Parmesan)

funinthesun19 · 02/07/2020 00:06

McD’s veggie burger is beyond gross.

Shock Oh em gee you did not just say that!

They’re the best!

Cadent · 02/07/2020 00:06

@indemMUND ah ok. Is it that mushroom stuff? I think it doesn’t help that I eat the whole pack instead of one or two because they’re so dainty

Cadent · 02/07/2020 00:08

@funinthesun19

Yes I did! It’s such a monumental waste of money whereas BK’s spicy bean burger is a real treat!

user1471541923 · 02/07/2020 00:09

They used to do a quorn burger and I loved it but it just didn't sell.

funinthesun19 · 02/07/2020 00:11

I’m going to try one of those one day and I’ll see which I like the best Grin

indemMUND · 02/07/2020 00:15

@Cadent it is kind of mushroom stuff. Fungus grown similarly.

theendoftheworldasweknowit · 02/07/2020 00:16

I wish they did halloumi burgers, like Burger King did for a while. Mind you, as someone who isn't actually vegetarian, it doesn't bother me that they would cook on the same grill as they use for their meat.

I just bloody well love halloumi.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 02/07/2020 00:16

@Crankley

No thanks. I've never understood why non meat eaters want their food to resemble meat. Seems strange to me.
It doesn't look like meat though. When was the last time you saw a burger that resembled a cow? I could just as easily ask why meat eaters insist on processing and flavouring meat until it no longer resembles the animal it comes from.
EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 02/07/2020 00:19

@squeekums

*like the taste of meat but don't eat it because of ethical issues*

If its for ethics, why they eating at maccas in the first place?

Do you expect vegans to only eat at vegan restaurants? How is a vegan eating at McDonalds any different to a vegan eating at Pizza Express or Frankie and Benny's or any other restaurant that servers meat and dairy?
EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 02/07/2020 00:20

*serves.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 02/07/2020 00:22

Tbh I find it strange that so many people are so invested in what vegans eat and where we eat. So what if a vegan eats in McDonald's? How does it effect you?

I'm a vegan and I love Nando's. Sue me.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 02/07/2020 00:24

Its not as if beef burgers come in the shape of a cow!

Exactly!

OopsIDidItAgain07 · 02/07/2020 00:37

I used to LOVE veggie whoppers from BK. I wish they'd bring them back!
