AIBU Ex’s baby name almost the same as my name

Ex-boyfriend has named his new baby daughter almost with my name with one letter added in. AIBU to be shocked and confused?

I don't know why anyone would name their child after their ex. Especially to 'get at' that person.

They probably just liked the name...

I think it's weird because surely most people would not want to chose a name similar due to association. in the same way one often doesn't like 'x' or 'y' because it reminds them of someone from school, tv etc.

I know someone who has named their baby the exact same fairly uncommon name as the dhs ex girlfriend. He was really into the ex even yrs after they broke up.

When we had DD i knew the names of his ex’s and made sure she wasn’t named after one of them or a name that could be shortened to be similar to an ex’s name.

My ex H named his child exactly the same as my nickname, we were married for 7 years and had a child together, Try and explain that to a child when your friends call you by his half brothers name!!!

I've named my child after one of my exes. The name was actually suggested by my nephew as it is also the name of a famous tennis player he likes. I don't think the baby was named after you at all. Just a coincidence

Also Mila Kunis is Ukrainian and Dimitri is an Ukrainian name.

Speaking of odd, friend of mine had a DD and gave baby the same name as one of her sisters (friend's sister, obviously).
I always found that peculiar.

Dimitri is the son of Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis. Mila’s parents are from the USSR and her first language is Russian.

I’m pretty sure it’s nowt to do with Demi Moore Hmm.

When my ex husband and were choosing a name for our first born son we went right through the baby book of names we had at the time. I didn't read out a particular name because it was my ex boyfriends name. My ex didn't like any of my suggestions so in desperation I said what about (my ex boyfriends name). He said oh yes bur spelt this way! So it could be something similar with your name.

My sons name can be a surname, he was 3 when someone asked if id named him after someone with that surname (he was called by his surname more than his first name) id had a massive crush on as a teenager. Id not thought about him for 10+ years let alone named my child after him.

I am with you, its strange and weird. My ex called his son my nickname. It's a very shortened version of my name only very close friends / family call me and there is only one guy ever named this in a TV series. I felt all sorts of emotions when I found out but weirded and creeped out topped the list. X

To answer this I need the following information please: did you and ex ever discuss a possible future babies name and decide on this name? Is the name very unusual? Does you ex still speak with you or have children with you?

I’m with you OP, it is a bit strange.
I have an ex from 20 yrs ago (still on good terms) who’s friend recently named their baby my (unusual) name and he said it freaks him out every time the baby is mentioned Grin
He would never name his own child anything similar sounding for the same reason - he’d always think of me!

Me too! Probably not the same ones you know though, because I imagine you’d have also mentioned they have twin siblings called Alexander and Alexandra

my now exhusband wanted to name our baby with a particular name - found out later it was the name of the woman he was having an affair with while i was pregnant!! so glad i hated the name - would have been a kick in the guts every time i said my own childs name.
