Do you judge people going on foreign holidays right now?

I don’t know anyone in my life doing this, but I’ve seen reality stars go abroad and then post on social media. Some people have called them out on it. Do you know people doing it?

YABU to judge, the countries need tourism
YANBU to judge, it’s non-essential travel only right now

Well, haters will judge, who cares.

If some idiots want to stay locked inside for the next few years, it's their issue, they can bitterly judge, bitch. It only affect them Grin

There is always someone moaning about holidays, shopping trips, beach trip, hair dresser appointment.

Womencanlift · 01/07/2020 00:04

I have several family members who work in the travel industry so if it doesn’t pick up they will be made redundant within the next few weeks.

So with that I’m not judging, the more options that can be opened up that will allow people to travel safely the better in my opinion

Grandmi · 01/07/2020 00:18

Am absolutely desperate for a holiday. Havnt been away since August 2018. Had to cancel holiday to Venice last year after falling and breaking my arm and dislocating my shoulder In June . Had also planned a trip to NZ for March this year Which had to be cancelled!! ...I definitely need even just a few days in the sunshine,on my own with a pool to recharge !!

SnowsInWater · 01/07/2020 00:28

We cannot leave the country (with some very limited exceptions, certainly not for a holiday) and anyone coming in (again very limited) has to stay in mandatory quarantine for 14 days. Guess that's why our country has a total of 104 deaths so far and the UK has 43,730 from this morning's available statistics. Yes, I judge!

bumblingbovine49 · 01/07/2020 00:29

People should not be allowed to do anything ever again. We should all stay in. Holidays should be no more
Somewhat overblown exaggeration there. Even the people saying they would judge ( by no means the majority on this thread) wouldn't they disapprove of people ever going on a foreign holiday again. Just maybe not this year

As for me. I don't judge at all, I say good luck to them. I won't be going though as I would worry about getting caught in. a quarantine or lockdown area at short notice and unable get home easily. .

Sparklesocks · 01/07/2020 00:33

I don’t know anyone abroad right now. I wouldn’t necessarily judge them but I might feel a bit nervous for them depending on where they go.

user1481840227 · 01/07/2020 00:36

I personally wouldn't go as I couldn't stand the idea of being quarantined somewhere else if there happened to be an outbreak where I was staying.
Also the lack of health insurance would be a huge issue outside of Europe.

PyongyangKipperbang · 01/07/2020 00:47

I dont judge but I do think anyone doing it is an idiot. Why not just wait until next year?!

FlopsyDoodle · 01/07/2020 00:50

I have a holiday to France supposedly booked for 3 weeks tike. The ferry is still running, our accommodation is still happy to have us and I’ve paid in full for both. I’m still 50/50 as to whether we’ll go, I probably won’t decide until a couple of days before.

jessstan2 · 01/07/2020 00:54

I generally don't judge but am surprised anyone is going on foreign holidays at the moment. I do feel it wouldn't hurt to go without this year.

CoRhona · 01/07/2020 00:56

We booked ours last year for August this year, meant to be a nice, possible final family getaway after DS1 and DS2 had finished their exams and before DS1 went off to uni.

If we can go, we will be.

ThighThighofthigh · 01/07/2020 01:32

It depends how people are travelling and holidaying and how healthy their travel companions are.

Some people travel without insurance anyway and use local services.

I'm doing a UK cottage break in late September and hoping everything will be settled by then. The thought of getting stuck abroad would scare me too much.

I cba to judge others though.

Coyoacan · 01/07/2020 01:52

I don't think we should judge people anymore. We all have to avoid covid, earn our living and look after our mental health. Holidays come under looking after our mental health. I don't need a holiday and don't have problems with my mental health, but some other people are on the edge.

Mintjulia · 01/07/2020 02:20

I don’t judge, it’s none of my business.

I know one person who is going to stay at her father’s house in France. They are both adults and certainly able to decide what is / not risky behaviour. They don’t need my views.

I really can’t get worked up about what other people do.

eaglejulesk · 01/07/2020 02:54

I agree - similar in my country. Hard to believe the entitlement of some people on MN.

PhilCornwall1 · 01/07/2020 05:13

Colleague of mine has two booked and looks like he's going to be able to go.

I don't blame him, I would be too. Another has been looking at what deals are around.

I wouldn't judge them as it's none of my business what they do or where they go.

I think this one is going to become the new "lockdown curtain twitching", where to some, it will be unreasonable they are going abroad and are going to "murder everyone with covid" when they get back.

Iamclearlyamug · 01/07/2020 05:20

I’m one of those who will be getting on a plane the second the government officially announce what the air bridges are - I’ve been away from my fiancé for 5 months and I’m going a day longer than I absolutely have to.

I’m of the opinion that IF we end up getting locked down again, at least I’ll have seen him for a few weeks before starting another long period of absence

MzHz · 01/07/2020 05:28

@AnyFucker

I judge the fucking judgy twats crawling put of everywhere, that is for sure
As always AF nails it for me. 😉

I read the judgy twat posts and all that I Hear in my head is wah wah wah, bleat bleat bleat.

Fucking awesome that so many have so much time to bother about the comings and goings of others that they won’t be doing x, y or z... more space for the rest of us who know life must go on!

MzHz · 01/07/2020 05:30

Be sensible, wear a mask if required to do so, wash hands take sanitiser etc and be aware of what you’re touching.

Enough of the paranoia! Deploy common sense, decide what your boundaries are and make the decisions for you based on that

MzHz · 01/07/2020 05:34

I also heard at the weekend that overall crime is down BUT the police are inundated with curtain twitching busy bodies Reporting their neighbours for all kinds of perceived infractions.

Albless · 01/07/2020 05:37

I was meant to be going, on my own, to Poland in August, doing a house swap with a Polish family.

I’ve very reluctantly decided to cancel. Reasons being that I really don’t fancy having to travel in a mask, worry about catching the virus and being ill alone in a country I’ve never visited before, and the possibility of lock-down recurring and being unable to travel home.

Financially, my only loss is the £170 for my flights, and I might be able to retrieve that.

TheMammothHunters · 01/07/2020 05:52

I would love to go and not judging others who are.
I don’t fancy flying and wearing a mask throughout but I would do it. I don’t think it’s fair on DS though.
We are going on UK holidays this year instead.

pigeon999 · 01/07/2020 06:46

It is reckless to go on holiday overseas this summer.

I don't know anyone in RL that is going in the next few months, if I did I would be avoiding them for a few weeks after their trip for sure :)

timeforawine · 01/07/2020 06:49

I booked before Covid and intend on going, as do quite a few people from work I've spoken to

Jengnr · 01/07/2020 06:50

We have flights booked in a couple of weeks and if they go we’ll be on them. We can’t afford to lose the money and we’re staying in a family property so I’m not too concerned about getting stuck there.

If the flights get cancelled fair enough and we won’t be booking anything else abroad, we have a potential back up plan in the uk.

I don’t really fancy wearing a mask but if that’s what we have to do that’s what we have to do innit?
