Do you judge people going on foreign holidays right now?

I don’t know anyone in my life doing this, but I’ve seen reality stars go abroad and then post on social media. Some people have called them out on it. Do you know people doing it?

YABU to judge, the countries need tourism
YANBU to judge, it’s non-essential travel only right now

Yes.
It's unnecessary.
HTH

strugglingwithdeciding · 30/06/2020 23:36

@alltheusername but it will be allowed within the guidelines shortly and people will be holidaying or visiting here too
They are not breaking rules

hapagirl · 30/06/2020 23:36

I’m judgey. All of my extended family live abroad and I’m reconciled in myself to not seeing them for a while. This country was on its knees a month ago. I don’t understand this need to go abroad just because you apparently can for a holiday.

MotherMorph · 30/06/2020 23:37

@LaurieMarlow

I’m not judging individuals, but it’s been terribly handled by the government (quelle surprise).

Loads of people heading off on airplanes is just about the dumbest thing imaginable right now and absolutely inviting a second wave. However, insurance won’t pay out if the government says it’s fine, so what are people supposed to do?

I agree. I feel really anxious about the idea of everyone travelling here there and everywhere over the summer and then all congregating back at schools/workplaces. We are booked to go away in the winter and part of me hopes travel is not advised (by FCO) so then we won't be forced to choose between taking a risk or loosing the most amount of money weve ever spent on a holiday.
ghostyslovesheets · 30/06/2020 23:37

Why not?

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 30/06/2020 23:37

I had several family members who were working in different countries and they were caught by the lockdowns there. It's been very difficult and it's not a risk I'd be prepared to take for me or the people with whom I share my household.

If people have properties elsewhere where they're isolated and can stay in quarantine without affecting the local population - and they aren't apprehensive about another lockdown, then you may as well be somewhere you enjoy.

They currently ARE breaking the rules. The thread is talking about people on holiday NOW. It’s right there in the title.

hotubhannah · 30/06/2020 23:39

No not judging. I'm not going abroad but don't blame others. Plane travel is one of the safest due to its advanced air conditioning. Unlike cruises which could be and have been a death death trap (don't get me started on the environmental damage). Shock

Girlswithflowers · 30/06/2020 23:40

I admire their blind faith that everything will be fine. I would worry about

  • not being covered by insurance
  • having a miserable travel experience
  • getting ill and being stuck for weeks on end
  • ditto local lockdown abroad
  • that it might actually be quite crap and weird and not worth the hassle.

I was meant to go to the USA in 3 weeks - I'm obviously not going.

strugglingwithdeciding · 30/06/2020 23:40

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken
Right fair enough i didnt think op meant this minute ( as lots dont seem to think either)
Im not really sure if many on holiday now though aa the travel agents aren't operating and lots of countries arent allowing people in

ghostyslovesheets · 30/06/2020 23:40

I feel I’m at less risk in France with their rate of infection than this mismanaged mega death island to be honest

famousforwrongreason · 30/06/2020 23:42

I judge everyone atm. People are absolute cunts.
Hth.

parietal · 30/06/2020 23:43

I know people going abroad to see family / take kids to grandparents for the summer hols etc.

but going abroad just for the sake of lying in the sun for 2 weeks seems pretty foolish & indulgent at the moment.

ghostyslovesheets · 30/06/2020 23:43

HTH 😂😂😂 classic

strugglingwithdeciding · 30/06/2020 23:44

famousforwrongreason · 30/06/2020 23:45

ghostyslovesheets · 30/06/2020 23:45

I know famous we lost my SIL and three family friends in the past 7 weeks

ghostyslovesheets · 30/06/2020 23:46

Sorry I really do love a good HTH though 😍 old skool !

famousforwrongreason · 30/06/2020 23:48

Oh my god @ghostyslovesheets that's really awful. I'm so sorry, how absolutely horrific. I feel bad for being facetious. Makes me feel so useless. Makes me angry when so many people I know treat it like a conspiracy and flout every guideline.

sweetkitty · 30/06/2020 23:49

We were supposed to be flying to Florida in 3 weeks not a hope in hell I would be going given their situation, their health system, all the social distancing etc.

Might go a few day trips round Scotland with the midges instead

Haha re the old skool. I'm hurtling towards fifty and that combined with lockdown has made me very nostalgic for a simpler time. Or maybe it felt more simple because we didn't have news access 24/7
famousforwrongreason · 30/06/2020 23:54

I'm supposed to be going on an extended hen thing in Europe in September.
Obviously lots of people have dropped out and I've been u der some pressure to commit.
I have no idea how I'm going to cover childcare over the summer holidays and can't see me having any spare annual leave for the rest of the year and obviously hen dos are the last thing on my mind right now.
Very hard to explain my priorities and quandaries to younger well off childless women furloughed on full pay.

LHReturns · 30/06/2020 23:56

If it is legal to take a holiday can we not just let everyone make their own decision? Why judge? I am going to fly next week with kids (to France, own home there, will stay two months). But my closest friends have no intention of flying this summer. We totally respect our different plans and no trying to change anyone’s views.

MadameMeursault · 30/06/2020 23:57

I’m judging the people crowding onto British beaches leaving their shit everywhere. I’m going abroad to a nice villa with a pool to avoid these lowlifes.
