Do you judge people going on foreign holidays right now?

I don’t know anyone in my life doing this, but I’ve seen reality stars go abroad and then post on social media. Some people have called them out on it. Do you know people doing it?

YABU to judge, the countries need tourism
YANBU to judge, it’s non-essential travel only right now

I just reluctantly cancelled a trip I had booked for next week. I love holidays, but I just feel too anxious at the moment. I can’t face the thought of wearing a mask for a three-hour flight - I find 20 minutes on the tube hard enough.

I rescheduled some flights I’d had booked for March to August. I’m hoping that a few weeks down the line I’ll feel a bit more comfortable.

Skigal86 · 30/06/2020 22:47

I completely judge people who are going right now, the FCO advice invalidates travel insurance, so if they get ill or injured abroad they’re in for a nasty shock. I fully expect to see a lot more crowdfunding for overseas medical expenses this summer because travel insurance refuses to pay out. That said I don’t judge people who’re planning to go if the FCO advice is lifted in the coming weeks (I’m hoping to be one of them!)

averysuitablegirl · 30/06/2020 22:50

No I don't judge individuals at all. But the idea of everyone moving around over the summer makes me feel very anxious.

We had no plans to go abroad and obviously wouldn't book anything now. Hoping for a couple of short camping trips at quiet camp sites in the UK.

SallyWD · 30/06/2020 22:51

We're going abroad soon and I don't want to be judged! We're not going on holiday as such but visiting family. Seeing an elderly and frail relative is pretty important.

LaurieMarlow · 30/06/2020 22:53

I’m not judging individuals, but it’s been terribly handled by the government (quelle surprise).

Loads of people heading off on airplanes is just about the dumbest thing imaginable right now and absolutely inviting a second wave. However, insurance won’t pay out if the government says it’s fine, so what are people supposed to do?

Gatehouse77 · 30/06/2020 22:53

No, but I don’t understand the appeal.

Nearlyalmost50 · 30/06/2020 22:53

No judgement from me, if they've paid and the guidance says yes.

I won't be going though, my worst fear is to get sick when I am abroad so I'll not be risking it myself. I am enjoying the house and garden (all very messy and needs tonnes of work), I'd rather sit at home this summer.

ilovesooty · 30/06/2020 22:54

Hopefully the FCO advice will be lifted this week. Anyone travelling abroad while it's in place is idiotic. Afterwards is another matter.

bridgetreilly · 30/06/2020 22:54

I can't think of anything I want to do less than get on a plane right now.

But if, as is the case for friends of mine, my elderly mother who was currently being treated for breast cancer lived in Spain, yes, I'd be going right now to visit her.

lljkk · 30/06/2020 22:54

I don't give a shiny...
Ok, maybe I do feel a little Envy they have money to do that, and courage not to worry they are going to lose all their money. Those are nice for them.

LoganRoy · 30/06/2020 22:55

Interesting it’s a 50/50 split so far.

TippledPink · 30/06/2020 22:56

We are hopefully going abroad at the end of the month- only if FCO says it is ok as I won't travel without insurance. It's just me and the kids, who will be back for two weeks after our holiday and then they go to Spain with my parents for two weeks. This was all already booked.

I am not judging anyone else for the decisions they are making, whether I feel they are being too lax or too strict. We all just need to manage the best we can and how we feel most comfortable.

Ragwort · 30/06/2020 22:57

I just don't understand the desperation to have a holiday, one friend has spent hours and ££££s trying to organise a flight for a holiday, I really couldn't be bothered to do that.

Giraffey1 · 30/06/2020 22:58

No, not judging anyone. I’m worn out by all the judging that has already gone on. Enough.

Whoopsmahoot · 30/06/2020 22:59

Each to their own. Would I with all the restrictions abroad, no.

Mascotte · 30/06/2020 23:02

I'm planning to drive. And not until late July.

Winebottle · 30/06/2020 23:02

I've booked a holiday for September. If the flight takes off, I'll be on it.

I'm fed up of lockdown. If I catch it, so be it.

B9008 · 30/06/2020 23:02

If I was under 30 and no kids I would risk it. With a family, no way. Too risky.

tillyandmilly · 30/06/2020 23:03

There will be more cities on lockdown in the future - just get used to it.

namechangetheworld · 30/06/2020 23:03

I'd far rather lose 3k than get stuck abroad being quarantined or unwell in a hotel somewhere.

This.

The Goverment have advised essential travel only so yes, I would definitely judge. Although as proven time and time again over the past few months, there are some Very Special People out there to whom the rules don't apply.

HairyToity · 30/06/2020 23:05

I'm not sure. The family I know who have booked a foreign holiday, have all had confirmed Covid-19. Depends on circumstances.

AnyFucker · 30/06/2020 23:10

I judge the fucking judgy twats crawling put of everywhere, that is for sure

Mascotte · 30/06/2020 23:10

I'm not breaking any rules, just want to go somewhere different and interesting after being locked up for months. No rule breaking 😃

GabsAlot · 30/06/2020 23:13

i prob wouldnt risk it incase of another outbreab/lockdown then youre stuck

also depends on what insurance you have

PamDenick · 30/06/2020 23:14

I am.
The NHS Trust in may area has not had a fatality for 2 weeks. The country I am going to has handled quarantine much better than the UK and I think the risk to the children is minimal.
The hotel we are visiting is reopening on the day we travel with extra precautions in place (no self service buffet) and we are going to be outside or on the beach for most of the time.
