To be upset about him taking down photos of us

AIBU to be upset over this. Am I just being stupidly sensitive?

In our living room we have two photo frame sets made up of 6 photos of me and partner. Us together and with our dog.

Last night he said he wanted to take these photos down and replace them with photos of friends because he thinks why do we need photos of ourselves up together when we see eachother all the time. He said it makes more sense to have photos up of people you don't see.

I know I am probably being silly but this hurt my feelings. They are lovely photos of us that we picked out together, printed off and hung up together. I love looking at them and the happy memories they bring. I'm more than happy for him to put up photos of his friends, but him wanting to replace our photos together to do that just upset me. Why not just buy more frames?

I know it sounds silly but I just felt hurt like I was being pushed aside for photos of friends and that having our photos up just doesnt mean much to him. I told him I felt a bit hurt and that I like having our photos up and I would rather him buy more frames.

He got annoyed and said having frames everywhere will look silly and can't believe I am offended over photos

Can you not compromise, and have one frame set with you, partner and dog, and the other frame for friends?

Crunchymum · 28/06/2020 12:09

Bizarre.

How mutual are these friends?

I have friends of 25 years + and wouldn't display these over family pictures (we have kids so its mainly kids pics we have up!)

SummerHouse · 28/06/2020 12:10

This is just a difference of opinion. Like he wants magnolia and you like grey. Try not to take it personally. Compromise on a mix?

LockdownLump · 28/06/2020 12:10

I'd find it odd to put pictures of my mates up in the living room.

RedRed9 · 28/06/2020 12:11

Photos of nice memories with friends sounds good too. But I agree you should just get more frames. But then I’m the kind of person that’s has a lot of photos up.

LolaRose789 · 28/06/2020 12:12

I am finding it hard not to take it personally and to not feel like this is indicating something worrying :(

Who made him boss? Tell him to put up a new frame if he wants but don’t touch the existing ones.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 28/06/2020 12:12

Playing devil's advocate here, but maybe he doesn't like looking at pictures of himself. My hubby hates it.

Sunnydayshereatlast · 28/06/2020 12:13

Chop the side off he is in and reframe you!

Kalifa · 28/06/2020 12:13

Whoever decorates their home with pics of friends? Strange. It would never occur to me to do that. If I really want to look at their photos I log onto Fb or Instagram.

Shamoo · 28/06/2020 12:13

I find it odd when people have photos of themselves up in their own house. We don’t have any. I understand I’m in the minority, and I think it’s because we didn’t when I was young. Randomly I don’t think it’s odd to have photos of your children, so I get that it’s not rational - but it’s still how I feel. So like somebody said above, it’s just a difference of opinion - it doesn’t mean anything.

Unless there’s something else going on that you haven’t mentioned then this is a massive over reaction. People have different tastes and opinions, it’s not a big deal.

RedRed9 · 28/06/2020 12:18

It’s all relative isn’t it?

I have a photo up of us and friends canoeing on a river together. It’s a nice photo and a happy memory.

I wouldn’t just put up a photo of just friends posing on their own on honeymoon for example though.

Jellybeansincognito · 28/06/2020 12:19

I kinda see his point!

I think a few photos of yourself is enough in a living room, when I go to houses where people have tonnes of selfies all over the house i do find it a bit odd.

EverdeRose · 28/06/2020 12:20

Is he planning on bringing another woman home?

How strange OP. I don't think I'd be comfortable with this change either.

Destroyedpeople · 28/06/2020 12:21

I don't know I can't imagine decorating my home with pictures of myself or of friends tbh.

LolaRose789 · 28/06/2020 12:21

Well we had an argument yesterday morning and he told me that he was "getting sick of me". He apologised and said it was just the heat of the moment. But obviously then him saying in the evening he wants to take our photos down, it makes me feel like that is a small warning sign alongside the earlier comment

Also think its bizarre of him. Why would you want pictures of your friends in your living room on a feature wall? I mean I like my friends but not that much to replace family photos with .
Sounds like he is making space due to some other reason?

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 28/06/2020 12:23

Find some of you with ex boyfriends?

purplecorkheart · 28/06/2020 12:25

Odd, I would wonder is he bringing someone over when you are not there and wants them to think he is single.

Greenkit · 28/06/2020 12:26

If there are no photos of you and him in the house, he would then be safe to bring someone round iygwim.

Or he might just want a change of pictures 🤔🤷‍♀️ who knows.

A very nasty comment to you either way, about being sick of you

Thekindyoufindinasecondhand · 28/06/2020 12:26

Hes probably just in a grumpy mood if he said hes sick of you. Wouldnt think to much into it. See if he actually puts into action what hes said regarding photos, pretty sure he wont and hes said it to get a reaction.
I'd take them all down personally and replace with me and my friends on girly weekends and when he asks why youve done that just say "I thought you didnt want to keep looking at pictures of us?"

Ifailed · 28/06/2020 12:28

Will it just be Jennifer, Courteney and Lisa - all the full cast?

Tistheseason17 · 28/06/2020 12:29

Just read your update - there is def something else going on and I would explore further. My DH has never said he is getting sick of me - even in the heat of our worst arguments.

PerfidiousAlbion · 28/06/2020 12:30

I think the photos are a symptom of a bigger issue OP.

How long have you been together?
