What time do you eat dinner?

What is your preferred time for your evening meal? We’ve been drifting later and later, I don’t mind on weekends but midweek I feel between 8 and 9pm would be good. Last couple of nights were 10.30.

When do you have dinner?

My children eat at 5pm, then we eat when they’re both in bed, so usually 7:30/8:00 ish

Ginfordinner · 25/06/2020 08:10

Being older my metabolism has slowed down. I will have a sandwich at 12, but still not be hungry by 5. Besides, it would mean that I am preparing the meal mid afternoon, which just feels far too early for me. We are two adults and a student in our household BTW.

Belledan1 · 25/06/2020 08:11

We started having a bigger meal at 2 whilst I am wfh. DH starts work at 5.30 so starved when comes in and nice to get it out of the way and tidy. Will just have something light on night then about 6.30 ish to 7.

bestservices · 25/06/2020 08:15

@Ginfordinner we used to have dinner later as went to the gym after work etc but since having dc everything has shifted earlier.
It will probably shift later again when dc older.

Liverbird77 · 25/06/2020 08:15

5 to 5.30 so we can all eat together. Earlier than we'd ideally like, but worth it for family time.

Neeks888 · 25/06/2020 08:17

5pm here, all in bed by 8.30pm for work school etc. It does mean the kids snack a bit more after dinner but at least they’ve had their main meal

Ragwort · 25/06/2020 08:25

I absolutely hate cooking/preparing a meal the minute I get in from work ... during lockdown it wasn't too bad but now I am back at work I like to get in, sit down with a coffee glass of wine and just relax before cooking, even if I've prepared something to heat up.

Ragwort · 25/06/2020 08:27

And after lockdown I am so sick of 'family time', my idea of bliss is eating a meal on my own Grin. The other night I did say to DH & DS (19) that I wasn't eating with them ... loved the time on my own!

theendoftheworldasweknowit · 25/06/2020 08:47

@AbsentmindedWoman I'm certainly not in bed by 9pm - more like 2am or 3am the next day. I don't get unmanageably hungry, no - as with anything, it's all about routine. Eat at the same sort of times on a regular basis and your body gets used to it.

Eating early means I don't snack early, and it works out better for me overall. Couldn't have done this if I was still stuck in the office.

crusheddaffodils · 25/06/2020 09:23

5.30 if we eat all together with the kids; 7pm if we eat once the baby is in bed (while the older two get ready for bed and read). We don't like to go to bed too soon after eating and we go upstairs at 9!

Itwasnoaccident9786756453 · 25/06/2020 09:25

7.30-8/9

ASandwichNamedKevin · 25/06/2020 11:05

@Ginfordinner do you have gin for dinner every day?!

contrmary · 25/06/2020 11:06

1930 to 2000, depending on how shit my timings are.

wendywoopywoo222 · 25/06/2020 11:10

Usually eat in the evening somewhere between six and nine depending on who is cooking and what else we are doing. Sometimes later if we're both engrossed in doing something else. Always earlier in the winter.

happymummy12345 · 25/06/2020 11:15

It depends on if we eat as a family or not. If we all eat together then between 5-6. If dh and i eat when ds is in bed then he eats around 5ish and we eat whenever, no set time. Or if dh is at work again ds eats at 5 and I have something when he's in bed (if dh is working the evening shift he doesn't get home until 11ish so we don't eat together as its too late).

lazylinguist · 25/06/2020 11:16

About 7pm. Eating as early as 5:30 would make me feel like snacking later. And I'd hate to eat at 9 or 10pm - it's horrible going to bed on a full stomach imo.

Ginfordinner · 25/06/2020 11:16

No Grin
Some of you go to bed very early. 9 pm when the sun is still shining just feels wrong for bed time.

Mia1415 · 25/06/2020 11:20

When DS is with his childminder I don't normally eat until around 9pm.

If we are eating together its around 6.30-7pm.

Devlesko · 25/06/2020 11:24

Whenever we are hungry, no particular time, but somewhere between 5pm and 8pm.

BathshebaAndGabriel · 25/06/2020 11:26

I like lunch at 11.30 (old gimmer) so I’m starving by 5.30. So I make everyone have our main evening meal then.

gingercat02 · 25/06/2020 11:29

About 7pm but varies from 6:30-8pm. DS thinks we eat too late all his Y7 friends eat about 5-6pm

honeylulu · 25/06/2020 11:30

Oh dear we lead rather "Spanish hours" anyway but it's got worse in lockdown. Breakfast might be 10am; lunch 2 or 3pm; dinner 9-9.30pm. Even our 6 year old has adapted to these hours. Suits us though. We are all night owls!

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 25/06/2020 11:31

6:30 ish during the week

Friday & Saturday 9:30ish

Sunday 8:30 ish

raspberryk · 25/06/2020 12:00

Usually between 5 & 6 if we are all eating together. Kids used to have theirs at 4/4.30 and we've been known to eat then too especially if we haven't had much/any/early lunch. I'm ready to eat anytime, I'd happily eat 4 or 5 meals a day.
If not then ideally before 7.30 as dp hates eating late. I don't mind in the summer eating later as it's a bit cooler, as long as I've had a snack.
Regardless of having eaten early or late i often have something else to eat.

Sexnotgender · 25/06/2020 12:01

5/5.30, young children and I like to run in the evening so don’t want to eat late.
