What time do you eat dinner?

What is your preferred time for your evening meal? We’ve been drifting later and later, I don’t mind on weekends but midweek I feel between 8 and 9pm would be good. Last couple of nights were 10.30.

When do you have dinner?

5pm with the kids. If husband working, he heats his up in microwave when he gets home. I occasionally have a yogurt about 8pm but generally it keeps me going until morning.

Yeah the endless daylight always fools us; later and later in summer but I try make it before 9pm.

@TheRealHousewife I don't understand the issue MN has with 'supper'. My family have supper as do most of the people I know. It's just another regional variation, yet if I made fun of those who call it 'tea' (which to me is a children's meal, or something with scones and those fancy tiered cake stands) the roof would fall in on me.

I also like lighting candles anytime we eat at the table. Most nights supper is a tray in front of the TV, but if I've made the extra effort then why not light candles? Does that make me Hyacinth Bouquet too?

In answer to OP, we eat supper around 8.30 most nights. DH doesn't get home from work until 8pm so I have a snack while the children have their tea at 5pm to keep me going.

For those who eat early, do you eat again before bedtime? I would be ravenous by breakfast the next morning if I'd last eaten at 5/6pm!

Anytime between 530 and bedtime. Depends if we're eating with the kids or not

If eating with kids then 5:30pm. If eating after they're in bed it'll be somewhere between 8 and 8:30pm. Don't like eating din er after 9 if we can help it, pudding is okay though.

6.30-7.30 for us. DD isn't back from nursery until 6pm (or 5.30 these days as they now do a deep clean), and later than 7.30 doesn't leave much time for her to wind down.

4:30pm! This is so early and comes from when the kids were young and I used to work week nights and start at 6 and eat first and now everyone is starving if I do it later!!!

@DelurkingAJ

DC eat with childminder in the week about 5, we eat about 9. At the weekend we do lunch as otherwise we need to eat at 6 and it all end badly (DC too hangry to eat sensibly and us snacking at 9).

So, you only eat lunch at the weekend?

@ConstantlySeekingHappiness you have amused me with your comment re going to bed 'early ish' at 9:30, would love to know what is really early!

For all those eating dinner at 5 or 6, is this a lockdown habit or your usual time?
My parents like to eat early (5 or 6) but they are retired and we eat later so sometimes catch up in between our respective dinner times.
I'd say at a push 7 but usually prefer 8:30-9:30.

@Mummadeeze do you seriously never have dinner? Is it worth it? Do you not get hungry seeing the others eating?

Anywhere between 9pm and midnight - but am self employed, single and childfree 😂

Visiting my Mum in more normal times, dinner is usually 7-8ish I guess.

How are people hungry at 5pm? Do you not bother with lunch?

Have breakfast about 7/7.30, lunch at 12 then dinner at 5/5.30. So that's about 5 hours between lunch and dinner, yes I'm hungry.

Around 630/7. Pre lockdown we would eat after the kids were in bed around 830/9 and I hated it but I wouldn't get home from work until 730ish.

Eating one meal at the same time is so much easier.

About 5-5.30 if we eat with the toddler (not often to be honest). Then 7.00-8.00 depending on how quickly she settles. Usually about 7.30. I don't like eating much later but that's largely because we are in bed by 10 because said toddler has us up early.

To answer an earlier question - yes if we eat at 5 or so then some supper is required. I would usually have a couple of cheese and crackers, DH would have a bowl of cereal.

@Ginfordinner I wonder the same for those who eat at 8-9pm, assuming you have lunch at 1-2pm that's 6 hours, so those eating earlier lunch at 12pm and dinner at 5-6pm it's still 6 hours.

My lunch is usually a roll / sandwich, if I have a really big lunch then I tend to have a light dinner but still around 6ish

5pm, with DDs.

If DH and I were to (rarely) eat without DDs, then it would be soon after they're in bed, so 7.30pm.

I don't usually get hungry before bed, but I do also have a cooked lunch at school.
