What time do you eat dinner?

What is your preferred time for your evening meal? We’ve been drifting later and later, I don’t mind on weekends but midweek I feel between 8 and 9pm would be good. Last couple of nights were 10.30.

When do you have dinner?

2 young kids so who take aaaages to eat and get ready for bed, so we eat between 5-530

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/06/2020 20:36

Earlier than I'd like, tbh, but DH works nights so we do about 1815 most evenings

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/06/2020 20:36

7ish. If I ate earlier I would be in amongst cheese and biscuits by about 10.

Nquartz · 24/06/2020 20:37

5-6pm. DD is only 8 so she goes up for bath etc at about 6.30. We eat lunch 12/lunch so I couldn't eat too late. I'm usually in bed asleep by 9.30 Blush

Redcrow · 24/06/2020 20:40

Wow this seems crazy to me. We all eat together at 5pm, we're farmers so often husband goes back out after. Even before kids and I worked full time the latest would be 6pm. I cant imagine eating at 9pm, I wouldnt get a good sleep

managedmis · 24/06/2020 20:40

5.30 pm

I'm Northern Grin

momtoolliex · 24/06/2020 20:41

Between 6-7:30, 8 at a push but that's only if we're home later for some reason Smile

Meredithgrey1 · 24/06/2020 20:42

7ish. I'd be starving by 10:30!

PurpleButterflyAway · 24/06/2020 20:43

4-5pm usually, but I've 3 under 10 who get extremely moody if it's any later

pinkfluffybunny · 24/06/2020 20:44

We like to eat as a family, so we got into the habit of eating at 4.30-5pm. After 12 years it's just the normal now. And I don't eat after 6pm, so it's perfect. The children don't eat after tea either, but my husband may have a snack about 9pm.

BearSoFair · 24/06/2020 20:45

Usually between 6 and 7. After 8 would feel too late to eat properly!

Mixitupalot · 24/06/2020 20:45

We eat around 7-8ish. We would eat later but DS goes to bed at 8:30.

SinglePringle · 24/06/2020 20:45

Currently eating supper (dinner). Lunch was at 1pm.

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/06/2020 20:45

At the moment, anytime between 4pm and midnight, but it's just me.
When I had Dd at home I'd aim for 6, but as she got older more towards 7/8.

She lives with her bf now and they eat at 8/9.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 24/06/2020 20:46

I aim for somewhere between 7-8pm but sometimes its closer to 9 as my kitchen is just too hot to be in.
I find if we eat too much earlier we are all hungry again by bedtime. Even eating later ds1 often has toast before bed.

Took · 24/06/2020 20:46

Around 8pm.

It used to be about 6.30 but back in the olden days when children went to school it just felt a bit rushed. They'd get home, get a snack and chat with me and before I knew it it’d be time to start dinner.

The later dinner works well though my DC are young teens so its easier than if I had toddlers.

Chickoletta · 24/06/2020 20:47

Depends if we’re eating with the kids - if yes, we all eat at 6.30/7ish. If not, they eat at 6.00 and we eat at 8.30/9.00ish. DH is cooking steak and chips whilst I write this in front of Kirsty and Phil with a glass of wine in hand. Happy!

Lostinbooksandcoffee · 24/06/2020 20:51

I eat with the kids about 5pm. My ideal is between 6 & 6.30pm but the kids are young and we start the bath/bed routine then. When they get older we'll probably shift it.

Ginfordinner · 24/06/2020 20:53

Usually 6.30 - 7pm. DH has had surgery on his oesophagus and can't eat late because he gets dreadful reflux. We usually eat lunch at 12.

Chaaaaaching · 24/06/2020 20:54

Now I’m a SAHM we eat at 5pm but when I worked office hours I’d cook as soon as I got home so it used to be about 6-6:30pm.

rosyribbon · 24/06/2020 20:55

On an average night, in normal times, about 8.30 when I get home from work.
At the moment, whenever we feel like it. Tonight we have just finished eating but last night was at 6.
2 working adults no children.

whoiscooking · 24/06/2020 20:58

7.30ish most nights

HMJCMUM · 24/06/2020 20:59

4-5PM

GeordieRacer · 24/06/2020 21:01

Between 6 and 7, usually. Generalisation alert, but it's a southern thing to eat your dinner late, isn't it? 9:30-10.30 is supper time to me.

birminghamquestion · 24/06/2020 21:01

5-5.30. We eat with ds and go to bed by 10.30 at the latest.
